Sorry, Trigger hadn't said that in between every other post in a few hours. Just thought I'd let him sit this one out.

I bought this game when it first came out last year on X-Box. It's extremelydifficult, but absolutely amazing. This may be the most realistic and difficult game I've ever played. MGS2 looks like "Battlezone" compared to SC's graphics and mechanics.

"Not only does the soon-to-launch PS2 version we played look almost as good(thanks to light-and-shadow rendering technology the developers have conjured specifically for PS2 hardware), but the PS2 game is arriving with worthwhile tweaks and extras. The biggest bonus here is the exclusive new power plant mission, which is broken into four levels and integrated into the game's storyline."
Sounds to me like PS2 owners have nothing to worry about.....not sure I would rely on the screen shots posted above. I will decide for myself with my own eyes as my step-son has the Xbox version so we can do a screen by screen comparison.

Yeah I'm pretty happy with the graphics so far and most gaming pubs seem to think the same way. The only thing I'm worried about is loading times. Hopefully they'll have time to optimize this so the game doesn't have to load everytime you enter a new area.

OK, there are a full set of impressions on the PS2 demo from IGN here. It sounds like things are pretty good, but far from perfect. It seems the author blames the differences not on the lack of PS2 prossessing power, but rather on the difficulty of porting a game from one system to another. Perhaps he should talk to Trigger for a proper explanation?

I just downloaded the PC demo last night and I am hooked. Damn this game is pretty cool. Even the PC controls aren't too bad and my ATI AIW 7500 Radeon pulls the lighting effects off fine. If they fix the framerate issues for the PS2 then maybe I will get it. The screenshots from the IGN story look pretty freakin' sweet to me, but it's smoothe motion that will make the difference.

They won't drop the ball - they're investing alot of time and money on this port. However, the PS2 simply can't do the special effects via hardware, so they'll try to fake it via software using the PS2s processor muscle. It'll look 'good enough'.

OK you can laugh all you want but without listing any it falls on deaf ears, that said I think the x-box is doing some great things and I might be getting the newer slim down version.

Graphically, Xbox launch title - PGR is way better looking than GT3. Sega GT 2002 looks about the same. Rallisport Challenge looks heaps better. Anyway - I didn't know you were just talking about racing games... I think Quantum Redshift looks heaps better too - does that count? If you weren't talking about just racing games, then that's why I laughed because there are just so many Xbox games with superior graphics... Splinter Cell for one. I don't deny though that GT3 looks good.

somtimes I think we are beyond the "blow away" aspect of gaming.... all that is done is adding more polygons and colors now. Will there reallly be another quantum leap in gamimg....but that is the topic for another thread.

Rallisport, if I remember, had cool particle effects with the dirt and better models, but considering how many cars were in GT3, I'd still have to say GT3 is more impressive. Rallisport is a much less ambitious game because it deals with a smaller niche; rally being a subset of racing. GT3 strives to be definitive. So for Rallisport to claim victory by coming out a year later and doing Rally better than GT3 is kind of a non-achievement to me.

This is the first Splinter Cell Review that I've seen online. Sounds pretty good by their analysis. Anyone else see reviews?

"superior to the Xbox version in every way"?

And it still only gets an 89%?
Well, I'm going to wait for a few more reviews....

For those who get the Gamers.com "THINKING OUT LOUD" email newsletter, this is what they had to say about PS2 Splinter Cell:
THE FIFTH FREEDOMTHE FIFTH FREEDOM
Things have once again been very Splinter Cell -dominated around our offices lately, thanks to the PS2 version making quite an impact on all our editors. After some considerable doubt as to whether the Xbox version’s fabulous graphics could be imitated, we were all agog at what Ubi Soft Shanghai managed to wring out of Sony’s box. At numerous points throughout the game, you’d be hard pushed to tell the difference, and this is aided still further by an exclusive level set in a power plant (not the Xbox downloadable Kola Cell level, as previously rumored), which also provides Sam Fisher with a different outfit (ooooh, steady there). For more info, make sure you check out the next issue of OPM, on sale early next month. There’s a big cover story about the development of the game, a full review, and a playable demo on the DVD.
