First PS2 Splinter Cell screenshot looks good

The picture is here. I couldn't link the story that says this is a PS2 screen (damn frames) but poke around on the site and you should find the story. Hopefully it'll look as good in motion.

Here are others from other threads. Some look good, some look bad.

No it's not a FPS, it's a 3rd person game. And I'm very underwhelmed by all of the screens, if you like this game, you'll probably want it get it for the Xbox or maybe the GCN.

The XBox version has some astounding realtime lighting and shadow effects. I'll be curious to see how they look on the other consoles.

These pics look OK but I have the game for the Xbox, their a lot better than these. If you have both PS2 and Xbox get the Xbox version and you'll see the difference

And thus begins the educated, witty, constructive criticism that this forum is so well known.

I just started playing this game on the xbox and so far, it's been a blast. The graphics are really nice-I mean I can't tell you how often I have stopped playing just to look at shadows and how light streams through windows and stuff. Granted there are some graphic flaws as well but overall nice looking stuff.

Sorry I calls them like I sees them. Since 93% of the people on this forum either have a GCN or a XBOX most everybody should get one of those two versions. I say if you are in the 7% minority of owning only a PS2 and you really want this game badly, take the plunge and get one of the consoles that will play it beautifully (assuming the GCN version is as good as the Xbox version).

Have you played the game to see the PS2 screens are obviously inferior?

Don't forget that there's a PC version as well.

Curious to see how the PS2 version comes out. I read an interview (in Xbox Nation, which is a great magazine) with the developer that they used alot of Xbox specific hardware features to get the shadows/filters to work. So to translate this game will be a tough task. I don't have anything against the PS2, so I hope it turns out well b/c the game deserves to be played by as many people as possible.

Oh yeah, I bet a few of those PS2 only folks are pretty likely to have a decent enough PC rig to play this as well.

Where did you get that 93% from? And when did I say I really want this game? And have you played it to see if it plays better or worse than the XBOX version? And why is it that when people are posting about how the screens look pretty good and are trying to be positive or have a normal discussion we have to have a poorly written post with nothing to do with the thread?

Arg. Anyways, enough of that. Thanks for the additional pics juiio. Looks like they might be able to pull off the most of the game without making it look too ugly.

So if I don't think something looks pretty good I should keep my mouth shut? Sorry, I didn't realize that's how this forum worked.

As for the numbers, my console forum poll which had a nice turnout showed how many people own which consoles.

And why is it that when people are posting about how the screens look pretty good and are trying to be positive or have a normal discussion we have to have a poorly written post with nothing to do with the thread?
Poorly written? Is that supposed to be an insult, Doctor Diction? I was responding to your implication that there was thread crapping afoot. There wasn't. I was posting my opinion on the images posted. Again, if you stated clearly in the first post that there was to be no badmouthing of this game for PS2, then I would have known better.

Oh well. Enough of that stuff.

PS2:

XBOX:

draw your own conclusions... I'm not biased against any system because I do own all 3, but I certainly know which one I prefer playing it on

Anyone know if those PS2 shots are a finished product? Maybe they'll squeeze more juice out of the PS2 by the time it goes gold. I'm more excited to see how the GCN turns out which will hopefully put the "Xbox is more powerful" arguments to rest.

I own a PS2, and I can tell you that I want to play Splinter Cell. Now I'm not going to go out and drop $200 on a new console just so I can play this game that is going to look a little better. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone has the money to drop on every new system that comes out. Seeing as how it's the same game as is on the Xbox, I have a feeling that the game is going to play the same on either system. If I was buying it to look at the graphics, I'd buy it for my PC.

Plus, the screenshots are from an unreleased game. I'm not saying that the graphics won't look like that when the game is released, but until then we won't know.

Yeah hopefully it will play the same and the game plays great. Not owning all consoles is all about choices.

Gallant Pig,
My guess is that until the game "goes gold" they're probably tweaking it. The graphics could improve but probably not by much. I'll admit, the XBox version looks superior, but that's to be expected. As it stands, Splinter Cell should be one of the best looking PS2 titles when it arrives. Hopefully the Cube version will be able to retain more of the graphical qualities from its xbox cousin.

I agree... I admit I would like to get an Xbox, but right now I don't have the money. The way I see it is that I can get just about all the games for the PS2 that I can get for the Xbox. The games that are Xbox exclusive I'll just have to do without until I get the money to get one.

As for Splinter Cell, I have a feeling it's going to play the same, but it's probably not going to have the same quality of graphics that the Xbox does.

To me it'll depend on how the lighting comes out. If they can get the lighting right, if the polygons and textures don't look as good, it's no biggie. But if they get the lighting to be as good as the Xbox version, you'll have a blast.

I'm definately going to rent it instead of running out and buying it. If it's not as good as I would like I'll just have to wait till I get an Xbox to play it.
