I've really been dragging my feet on getting this. Sounds great but it's a "driving" game and I've just bought a ton of games thanks to Amazon and TRU.

Well, I just broke down and got it. If they are pulling it off the shelves that sucks but hopefully I'm getting mine.

If it's a scam to sell more or just BS, then atleast it got me off my butt and made me get the game. I told everyhone at work about this game and only one was offended. A few of them are dying to come over and play it or they want to but a PS2 just for the game. It better be as good as you all say of I'm gonna beat you all with a stick and take your money.

It is FAR from being a driving game. Sure driving is a big part of it, but there is soooooooo much more.

I agree...I am not into many "driving" games. This is definitely not a driving game in my opinion. Driving games allow you to do only one thing and that is drive. GTA allows you to do whatever you want to do in a city full of people waiting to be victimized.

First turn around and head through the alley down the street from the bank. Grab the star there which will take your wanted level down to 2 stars. Then head over to the paint and spray and pull in. Get your car painted and your wanted level will go to zero. Then go wherever you want. You're not wanted any more.

Don't know if you guys know, but there are know tons of codes out for the game including full armor, full health, people fight each other, all people have weapons, raise or lower wanted level etc.

That's why I wrote it like that. I had made mention earlier that I had started with Crazy Taxi and GT3 when I got my system the other week. I was afraid that any game where you are in a car would be too much.

When I told my wife about this game she HATED it. Thought it was awful. Now she's helping me on missions and laughs when someone files over the hood of my cars.

Great game. My wife does get a bit upset when I start beating folks for no reason so I try not to do it that often.

I just spent the last few hours in the wee morning, spent 400,000 on weapons. Then I got in the parking garage so the helicopters can't shoot me down, and sniped out people and had all-out chaos. But I can't figure out how to get to 6 stars, I only got to 5, and I shot down about 13 helicopters and tons of civilians.

Edit: Audio sync problem fixed.

It's a really good game... good use of video. I wish the car crash & tire squealing noises were louder... you can barely hear 'em. As opposed to the radio, which I just wanna turn off. The police chopper sounds AWESOME through a subwoofer... I almost wanted to open my porch door and look up in the sky.

The last GTA game I played was the very first one, which I liked. Graphically, this is head and shoulders above it. It's a lot harder to find weapons & stuff in GTA3, which I guess is realistic... in GTA1, you'd just run over crates sitting on the sidewalk, and find pistols and machine guns in them. As far as I can tell, you also have to jump out of your car to pick up stuff (weapons, money) in GTA3, as opposed to just running over them in your car.

Fire bad!

I actually got to 6 stars yesterday, but I'm really not that far into the game (I am trying to complete the "van heist" mission right now). I jacked a hummer, thinking it would go up against the armored car pretty well. It did, but of course, the armored car apparently calls for police backup pretty quickly. I actually got the armored car's damage meter to fill up, and sure enough, the guys bailed. But when I rammed the armored car to do this, I flipped over and caught fire. I was surrounded by tons of cops. I just started running, firing over my shoulder as I ran. Apparently, the resulting explosion of the humvee took out all the cops, and the warrant meter maxxed out at 6 stars! I was summarily blown away seconds later by more cops that came outta nowhere.

I'm going to have to read some of the faqs on this game. There's so much in it that the manual doesn't even touch upon. I found 2 hidden objects (according to the message on the screen, there are 100 to be found!) I ran over what looked like a drug capsule power-up, and my character started moving in drugged-out slo-mo.

By the way, I've had an "N" icon on my map for a while now, but it appears like it's way out in the harbor. I can't figure out what it is or how to get to it. So I've just been going on missions dictated by Louie and Joey for now (with the occasional taxi and ambulance missions, of course).

The "N" I believe means North on the map.

Just for your information, every 10 packages you get gives you a weapon in your garage. But here is the list...

10 Handgun
20 Uzi
30 Grenades
40 Shotgun
50 Armor
60 Molotov Cocktails
70 AK-47
80 Sniper Rifle
90 M-16
100 Rocket Launcher and $1,000,000.00

If anybody has a map detailing where every package is, could you send it my way? [email protected]

Thanks.

I thought you could only get up to wanted level 4 in Portland.

You can't get up to 6 stars until you are in the suburban area (the last area). You can only get up to 5 until then I believe (or that is what I read).

I came home from work today to find my wife playing the game. I'm speechless.

A week ago she thought I was demented cause I wanted it, and tonight she was telling me about all the missions she went on and all the goodies she found.

She even was nice enough to snag that really fast car from that showroom on the edge of town and park in in my, or is it our, garage.

I read that too, so I had to have hit a bug in the game--I know 100% it was 6 stars because it was my wife who first noticed it. She said something like "Wow look at your stars" and I looked up and it was maxxed. I've had very similar gameplay experiences since then, but I've never seen it get back up to 6 stars--only 4, as it should. A bug maybe? I don't know. I haven't even gotten beyond Portland yet. It's the first and only quirk I've seen in an otherwise-incredible game.

Now, if I can just complete "van heist" and move on...arrrghh!!!

I don't think they sell a soundtrack (at least not yet), but in the back of the manual, it tells you the artist/song name to each song. I guess just d/l it for now until the soundtrack comes out .
