I swear to cthulu Paramount fucking hates this franchise. You can look back at how shittily they treated the movies in the laserdisc era as a great example (no special editions ever).

I know they're selling it off or something, I truly hope it goes to somebody that really cares about it.
While there should be concerns about the show, the talent involved (Hunter, Giamatti) has given me hope it can be good.

I was thinking of including SfA but I'll hold off on judgement until it's actually out. But I'm not holding my breath.

They know it’s part of the pop culture zeitgeist and there’s some money to be made there, but I feel like from their end the fans of the franchise aren’t ones they want to appeal to. So instead they try to appeal to a more mainstream audience and in doing so Star Trek has lost a lot of its identity.

Picard season three seems like the one exception. It feels like they knew enough people were annoyed by the first two seasons so they decided to remedy that and give us one great final season.
Which is weird because Paramount could use all the IP that they have and ST is one of the few evergreen IPs they have. Actually one of the few period. And it's not tied down to a certain actor like their MI and Top Gun series. So I don't know why they don't treat it the greater respect.

But we did get a pretty awesome run of Trek lately. Lower Decks, Picard S3, and SNW have all been absolutely awesome. Hopefully at the very least we'll continue on with TOS and Kirk at the helm.

I tried with SNW. It was okay but I got tired of it after a while. Lower Decks just isn’t my thing. I don’t like that Rick and Morty style of humor in the first place, and for me it clashes too much with Star Trek. I watched a few episodes and just couldn’t get into it.

That's too bad. The consensus seems to be most people really like those shows.

LD took some getting used to but you're really missing out if you're a fan and not watching it. It's really a love letter to Star Trek fans.

I realize LD is very clearly trying to appeal to Trek fans and for that I can respect it, but it’s not for me. Again to me the style of humor just doesn’t work for me and clashes way too hard with what I want out of a Star Trek series.

That was the case for me... I barely got thru the first episode when it came out. My friend said to give it another shot and a few episodes. By episode 4? I was hooked and became must watch every week.
