"Very popular" is gonna have to work fucking hard to seep into my world. A new song / young artist is gonna need to reach global phenomenon status for me to notice.

Yeah, that's the second episode in a row where I haven't heard the MG's name even in passing.

You don't watch MTV Live or channel 572 on Directv?
They show his music video non-stop.

I thought Amy Schumer's star status faded after several of her movies bombed but then she had Life of Beth and Inside Amy Schumer is back maybe out of desperation.
Guess she is still a comedy star?
Nikki Glazer should get a hosting gig this season.
I hope we get Will Ferrell to host to plug Spirited his new movie.

I assumed her hosting was only due to Inside Amy Schumer coming back - I hadn't heard of "Life & Beth" until your post. I watched a trailer and it feels a bit like Trainwreck... which is basically AS's comedy bread and butter. I may give it a shot though.

She hosted the Oscars seven months ago, so yes, she is still considered enough of a star to host a episode of SNL. I realize them choosing someone with a career in comedy and acting to host is quite surprising with all the available rappers out there.

Love Amy Schumer and by that I mean I find her reasonably funny and the ire she draws hilarious.

Maybe her star status has faded somewhat, but Amy has never stopped working since her last major film ("I Feel Pretty"). Which grossed nearly 50M. While not the 110M that "Trainwreck" made, it was hardly a bomb. After that, she had another Netflix stand up special. Then there was that documentary on HBO Max called "Expecting Amy", followed by the TV show "Life & Beth" and an indie film ("The Humans"). Both were critically acclaimed. Then there was that cooking show with her husband, her Oscar hosting gig, and now "Inside Amy Schumer" returning. Watching this week's "SNL" now. Her monologue was strong, but that soup sketch was absolutely abysmal.

Dave Chappelle is in for another post-election show next week.

Even though his sitcom Buddies was cancelled after just six episodes, I think he is still famous enough to host.
I hope they do a sketch about the Fruit Brute.

I don't care for AS, but her cold open was really good.

The monologue was decent and I liked the covid commercial, the Looker and the Jets fans sketches. That's more than usual and makes it the best episode of the season so far - even if that isn't saying much.
Michael Longfellow isn't very good in live sketches. And there's something about him that makes me think he's hiding a dark secret.
Sarah Sherman is cute when she's not wearing her gimmick outfit.
I think this is the first time SNL is being carried by women. Wiig and McKinnon were used a shit-ton in their eras, but the men carried a lot of weight as well.
This season the men are taking a backseat.

Finally they did a Biden sketch.
Maybe that Jets sketch doomed the Bills today.
The Covid digital short was hilarious.
Chloe Fineman was so hot in that dumb hats sketch

This year is different. Jost and Che only do Weekend Update, so they don't really count. All you have left is Kenan, Day, Yang and then with less years and little stage time you've got Dismukes, Johnson, Hernandez, Longfellow and Walker. On the women's side - Strong, Gardner, Fineman and Nwodim are used a lot... and Sherman's starting to get more stage time as well.

I think SNL pivoted to becoming fully female-centric around 2016 when they had women playing male republican politicians.
There's a case to be made that the Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armesin, Bill Hader years were the last hurrah of the more male-centric SNL, and that Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, and Aidy Bryant ushered in a new era.
It also doesn't help that so many of the male cast members on SNL lack charisma, aren't terribly funny, and just sort of blend into each other. For a while it's was like Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant, Heidi Gardner, and all of these slight, dark-haired white men that you could barely tell apart. And Kenan Thompson. Pete Davidson was the only one who really stood out amongst the Kyle Moffats and Alex Mooneys.

The women cast during the Fey and Poehler years was comparable to the early male dominated early 90's cast in terms of greatness.
