...and that wasn't terrible, actually.
One of the better episodes of Chibnall's tenure. The Cybermasters are still dumb as shit, but, overall, the team-up between the Master, the Daleks, and the Cybermen worked. The plot never went off the rails, though the whole Master forcing the Doctor to regenerate into the Master was a little weird. Felt like it was tacked on to pad out the middle in order to fill a longer time-slot.
I did enjoy seeing the fifth and seventh Doctors show up, albeit as holograms, to interact with Tegan and Ace. And Ace suiting up in her jacket and wielding her bat.
Also got a nice laugh out of the previous (surviving
) companions forming a therapy group.
This episode was also quite a Broadchurch reunion with Jodie, Jacob, and the two Davids.

I checked out about halfway into Whittaker’s run, less because of her and mostly because the scripts/storytelling were so awful. Kind of like Capaldi I felt like a solid Doctor was let down by the scripts.
But this was mostly enjoyable, still too frantic and too many balls in the air but I did like the callbacks to Ace and others, this incarnation of the Master is cheesy fun and the unexpected cameos were cool (except the hideous morphing SFX that appeared to be from Michael Jackson’s Black Or White video era.)
I love DT but not sure about the ending, it’ll be interesting to see where they go in the next few specials and how they introduce Ncuti, but it does all feel a bit like fan service. (one has to wonder if the BBC balked at having a white woman regenerate into a black/brown man, although actually the same thing just happened with their PM!) That said, everyone (mostly) loves DT so give the people what they want, I guess. At the least I’m more likely to watch the new episodes in a year or so than I have been for a while.

I feel like they'll lose a lot of casual DW watchers that either come across it for the first time on BBCA or people that like to just leave it on BBCA during one of their DW marathons. Would Disney+ watchers have a way of watching all holiday episodes in order to do a holiday marathon? Disney+ needs to add the concept of "channels" that simulate the cable watching experience where you can just drop in and start watching whatever is showing. They could have a channel showing all Marvel movies in order, another showing all Star Wars movies in order, one showing all Doctor Who episodes in order, etc.

I have to imagine BBCA has next to nothing in original programming and if it wasn't for Disney (or someone else) stepping in, it might not even appear in America or even exist at all.

Disney confirmed to CNET that the deal with the BBC includes future episodes, but that past episodes are not transferring to Disney Plus at this time.

Apparently this is not just a distribution deal for Disney+.
🌟Showrunner Russell T Davies will retain the overall creative vision for the programme, but it is understood the corporate might of Disney will give the show vast budgets, allowing for more cinematic production values and more stars

I hope Mickey Mouse treats Doctor Who better than it treated Star Wars.

Hrm. I was under the impression that Yasmin Finney's "Rose" was going to be the new companion. If she is, indeed, the daughter of Donna Noble, maybe she will debut in the three specials with David Tennant.

Not sure if this thread is the best place to post this, since it does not pertain to Season 13, but there is some interesting news (hopeful speculation) about the classic series' missing episodes. I'm sure some of you old timers would find this podcast fascinating:

It's the best lead to discovering old Doctor Who missing episodes since the last recovery around 10 years ago.
Basically in Melbourne, Australia, an under the radar collector/hoarder of sci-fi tv (a huge Star Trek and Doctor Who fan, apparently) from since the 1970s (perhaps even as early as the 1960s) passed away recently and his estate is an astonishing collection of recordings, magazines, vinyl records, and collectible paraphernalia. It seemed like he collected an entire museum worth of historical televised material. His next of kin found an owner of a collectibles store to help catalog or look through the material, and it is an absolutely astonishing amount of stuff. This guy was financially independent his entire life it seems and owned a lot of recording equipment considered to be quite expensive for the time era. He had tens of thousands of tapes. The podcast itself is just over an hour long, but it is absolutely worth your listen if you're interested at all. No one knows if there is any missing Doctor Who episodes in his estate because the tapes from the 60s and 70s were mostly unlabeled, and it would take many years to catalog and go through the amount of material he kept. Most of the stuff has now been moved to an archival department at a nearby university where they plan to go through every single of the tens of thousands of tapes. This includes U-matic tapes from the 1970s, as well as reel recordings from the 1960s. It is absolutely crazy how much this guy had (and how much money he was willing to spend just collecting and hoarding stuff because he had 4 U-matic machines). Hypothetically, some of the U-matic tapes from the early 1970s could contain some re-runs of Troughton's last season. Or, the reel recordings he had from the 1960s could contain missing episodes from as early as the Hartnell era. The sad stuff (besides the fact that he slept on the floor in his mansion because the place was full of boxes of tapes and he had nowhere to sleep) was the fact that his next of kin had junked a lot of his tapes prior to calling in an expert to catalog stuff. Seems like plenty of the U-matic tapes from the 1970s were tossed out, as well as old cereal boxes from the late 1970s which had rare Star Wars material estimated to have been worth around $100,000. If you check out Aron Challinger's twitter, there are pictures of the stuff he went through.
Anyway, I found it absolutely fascinating, so if this isn't the best thread to post it in, feel free to move this to the appropriate place.
