Surprised they're bringing one of the three Please Don't Destroy guys onto the "main cast". What does that do to the group?

It got destroyed?

I saw that only one will be staying on as a writer, so it seems PDD is for the most part over. Which is fine with me. Next time they make me laugh will be the first.

Slowikowska is the one I mentioned in post #1353 about a Tik Tokker rumored to be joining the cast. Obviously those rumors were very much true.

ETA: Four cast members leave, five new cast members enter. So much for the theory that Lorne was paring down the very bloated cast.

 Damn

I enjoyed PDD but the movie was a mess and ever since their SNL spots have been very hit and miss as well. Probably better if they wrap it up with a good batting average at least for people who enjoyed them at some point.

I'm probably exaggerating a little, I think there's times PDD gave me a minor chuckle, but it's not something I look forward to in an SNL outing, that's for damn sure.

Sandberg was a Lonely Island guy before he hit SNL, wasn't he? And the other guys were writers on the show anyways.

Isn't that the same thing?

Well, in this case John Higgins is leaving the show.

I always enjoyed seeing a PDD video over another lame game show sketch.

I liked a lot of the PDD videos (the movie is another story  ), I'll be sorry to see them go.

But what if they do a game show sketch where Keenan Thompson is the host and mugs for the camera, and Mikey Day wonders why he's there? Huh?

And I thought Lorned wanted a smaller cast but it will be just as big as it always been in the 2020's.

I love Kenan's mugging for the camera. Sometimes that is the only worthwhile part of a bad sketch.

I am not a fan of how they often use Mikey Day to lampshade the premise of a sketch.

It is late I know

The joke about Caitlan Clark was funny.

He threw his writers under the bus several times when a joke did not hit.

Right-wing rag The New York Post ran an item about Heidi Gardner's departure, citing an anonymous insider, that she did not quit, but was fired.

Dana Carvey then repeated this on his podcast, just saying that it was what he heard/read. I'm not sure if Carvey is cleverly just trying to generate mentions of the podcast or if he really is so stupid as to believe the NY Post.

Anyways, this is what The Daily Mail said, and I just love how they describe things.

SNL star Heidi Gardner's humiliating show ousting revealed amid cast bloodbath

Last week, many were shocked as Daily Mail confirmed that fan favorite Gardner has exited the show after an impressive eight-season run as furious viewers called for SNL to be cancelled amid the ongoing cast exodus.

Dana Carvey and Spade are kind of opportunistic guys who don’t seem to have a lot of moral compass. Their number one topic of discussion (at least for as long as I listened to their podcast) is “You couldn’t do that today” without any deeper discussion as to why because Imo they can’t go deeper than that on much of anything.

Dunno... I find myself questioning whether HG's departure was voluntary or if she was let go. I don't think she's made any kind of statement that leaving was her choice. Historically, when the top dog cast members leave, they usually make it known they're leaving at some point during their final season (thinking of Wiig and Sudeikis, here) and not when they're doing the annual firing/hiring ritual.

On one hand, it seems like she's someone they'd want to keep around, but on the other, this feels a little sus.

Taran Killam comes to mind as a cast big dog who got surprisingly and unceremoniously dumped during the off-season without a major cast overhaul.

I don't think Heidi ranks as one of those top dogs like Wiig or Ferrell or Fallon or McKinnon that received big send-offs.

But think about it this way: No one announced they were leaving at the end of season 50, but there was loads of speculation that certain cast members would not return. So, the idea of people "retiring" during the summer is not so unusual.

It may be true that she was let go. It may be true that she just decided not to come back for whatever reasons. I just don't accept the word of an unnamed source for Fox News print edition.

Yeah. If the New York Post printed an article saying the sun will rise in the east tomorrow, I'd set my alarm to wake up and witness it before I was sure of it.

I have been following both Heidi and Chloe on socials and both will post a lot of the skits from the show. Plus they post a lot from real life stuff. I don't think Heidi has posted since her departure, which leads me to think it wasn't her decision. But who knows. I keep hoping I'll bump into her in town. lol

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

Carvey and Spade never go into a deep dive into politics except for impersonations so I am not mad at them and that is the way I like it where they just mostly talk about SNL and other subjects.

Nesbit 09-07-25 06:49 AM

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

I can get wanting shows that don’t deal with politics but that’s not what they’re doing. They’re bringing up a political subject (language changing) but only in the most surface level chicken shit way possible because they’re chicken shits who don’t think deeply about shit at least based on how they decide to discuss their favorite thing to discuss.

The truth is Dana Carvey is just mad because he can’t rely on easy stupid stereotypes to get cheep laughs anymore and David Spade is mad for the same reason he has been for 30 years, because he’s not Dana Carvey.
