Standup comedy is huge right now, a lot of it due to many of them starting podcasts during the pandemic, and a lot of the specials on Netflix do very well. Some of these folks are doing arena tours these days.

Any of those arena tours by stand up comics who haven't have any acting gigs? (Not being sarcastic, genuinely curious). Seems like TV and movie parts are what catapulted stand ups like Amy Schumer, Bill Burr, John Mulaney, Pete Holmes into the general consciousness.

FWIW Nate Bargatze was slated to do 3 performances in St. Louis at the Fox Theater - not an arena but a large theater that does Broadway shows. Much bigger than a comedy club for sure. For reference, the other standup comedian I've seen at the Fox is Jerry Seinfeld.

Good question, comics that haven't had any acting gigs? To be honest I'm not 100% sure without doing some research. Tom Segura perhaps? (although he is working film and tv projects now, and maybe did a small role or two in the past, but I think his standup is what's made him rich and famous). Tons of comics can fill theaters these days, but maybe not arenas.

Oh I have no doubt he has a huge following in stand-up. He has several specials on Netflix or Prime, I think. But lots of stand ups sell out performing arts theaters. And the Fox Theater has a capacity of 4,500, less than a third of an Arena.

I wasn't arguing it was on par with an arena tour - just giving a data point that nearly 15,000 people are going to see him in the same place I saw Seinfeld in the mid-2000s and Bargatze has never had a TV show or movie.

True, but Tom has played arenas, he's one of the top selling acts at this point. I'm surprised how much he's blown up over the past couple years. He might be a bit of an anomaly though. Anyway, I'm a big fan, I especially like "story telling" comics and he's a good one.

Fuck, that's horrible. In one of his recent specials he had some really funny bits involving his sons, poor Dana and family.

He would tell jokes to Conan about how his kid were not interested in what he did and how they acted like typical teenagers.

Loved when he imitated them walking away muttering "Bunch of fucking bullshit" or when needing something say "Uh, could you do it?". As a father of a teenage boy, I could relate.

Or NBC could show reruns of The Celebrity Apprentice

Last two shows of the year look to be winners, both with hugely famous returning hosts and musical guests (who will be battling each other for Grammys and probably Oscars this Spring)

Sure she's a superstar and will be joining the Five-Timers Club, but who the hell is Noah Kahan?

He plays Nandor on What We Do In The Shadows and is a current Grammy nominee for Best New Artist

not sure if a joke, since they look similar, but he’s not Nandor.

Spoiler:
That they look alike is what makes it a joke

Colin Jost will host the 2024 White House Correspondents Dinner

The 2024 White House Correspondents’ Dinner is turning to Saturday Night Live for its entertainment this year.

The annual event — a fundraiser for the White House Correspondents’ Association — says that SNL “Weekend Update” host Colin Jost will be this year’s featured entertainer. This year’s WHCA dinner is scheduled for Saturday, April 27.

“Colin Jost knows how to make Saturday nights funny, and I am thrilled Colin will be live from the nation’s capital as the headline entertainer for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” said Kelly O’Donnell, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association and NBC News’ senior White House correspondent.

Too bad it is not translating to movies since there are very few comedy films and all the talent in stand up is wasted and they could be writing their own movies or help in greenlighting projects.
