re: SNL General Discussion Thread
The feeling I get from McKinnon is that she excels at sketch comedy, playing characters, and doing impersonations, but she'll probably have difficulty finding projects post-SNL because movies and tv series don't really fit with that particular skill set. She's a lot like Dana Carvey in that regard.
I think she'll need to be really selective in what projects she takes on, and will need to find just the right scripts.
You never know, though. She could get lucky and find her own Ted Lasso.

I didn't hate Wiig on SNL, but I never understood why she was so beloved either.
So she came out of the gate super hot with a giant success with Bridesmaids and has been on a downward slide ever since.
So I guess my gut was playing the long game on her.

Kate is in the upcoming Barbie movie and she did some animated movies too and did Bombshell, Yesterday, Spy Who Dumped Me, Rough Night, Ghostbusters, and other movies while still on the show.
I think she has enough versatility to do a lot of stuff.
She is not a Dana Carvey where most of her movie projects bomb and I like Carvey but he is a one trick pony and does the impressions all the time and most of the same material on his podcast with David Spade.
Off topic when did they ditch the music when they show those promo photos after a commercial break?
They should bring that back.
I was watching the Val Kilmer show from 2000 and they had the music back then.

I'm still reeling over Bowen Yang's Emmy nomination. That is such a joke on so many levels. The only male cast members to ever receive a nomination in the history of the show are Eddie Murphy, Bill Hader and Kenan Thompson.

Not that it explains much but there used to be five nominees in the category and now there are usually 8 or 9.

I forgot it was his second nomination. What in the actual fuck? There could be 1000 nominees for this category and he still doesn't belong there. Yang getting any recognition for this show is such an insult to all the others who truly deserved it. Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Phil Hartman, Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Chris Farley, Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond, Will Forte, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis.

Oh, I know. Yang checks two boxes actually. He's the second openly gay male cast member on "SNL". The first was Terry Sweeney. And he's the first Asian.

I thought Chris Kattan was probably one of the first gay SNL cast members but he is straight and another SNL alum who outkicks his coverage and snags a hottie.
Conan O' Brien was joking on the Carvey and Spade podcast how back then nobody got hot tail and he was not dating a big star like Madonna

I listened to the Dana Carvey and David Spade podcast for the first time. Great SNL stories.
In the Conan O'Brien episode, Spade revealed that he was contractually blocked from doing a Taco Bell commercial because cast members couldn't endorse products.
Also, all three say that Lorne Michaels believes that live musical performances on TV are no good by definition.
They also think it must be vary hard to be a cast member nowadays with so many people vying for air time, and they are shocked that Lorne lets people come and go doing other projects.

I wish Melissa V could have waited it out one more year. With everyone leaving, she Might finally have gotten a decent amount of screen time.
She has talked about her struggles with anxiety on Twitter for a long time before now.

With that anxiety she lasted for several years on that show which was amazing
I like that Carvey/Spade podcast but Carvey can be annoying sometimes when he breaks into a impression during a interview when you want to hear the guest talk.

Chris Redd got attacked in NYC but will be ok
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/...215353374.html
Chris Redd is out of the hospital after a stranger punched him in the face outside of a comedy club in New York City.
The "Saturday Night Live" alum arrived at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village on Wednesday night and was approached upon exiting his car by someone who punched him in the face and fled the scene, according to a spokesperson for the New York Police Department.
When police showed up at the venue around 9:40 p.m., Redd had sustained a laceration to his face. Emergency medical services transported the comedian to Bellevue Hospital, where he was treated and released. The NYPD statement noted that the assailant attacked Redd "without prior conversation or provocation." The suspect's identity and location are unknown.

First Rick Moranis, now Chris Redd. Can't a sketch comedy show veteran walk down the streets of New York City without getting randomly punched in the face anymore?

Melissa V getting a paycheck. I don't understand why she is supposed to be a character instead of herself.
