Maybe the tweet didn't show for you.
So SNL characters that returned to the show after a 10+ year absence.
After over 10 years, Kenan Thompson’s Jean K. Jean is one of the incroyable #SNL characters to make their return to the show. Zut alors!

I saw the tweet but until you said it better then the tweet I didn’t get that it is characters that had a gap of 10+ years between appearances.

I've been rough on this show for decades, still don't watch live, but I must say that the filmed shorts I've seen online from this group have been hilarious mostly across the board.

He kept his cool during the Harvey Kietel bathroom sketch

From Horatio Sanz mercilessly cracking up Jimmy Fallon to giggly guest host Ryan Gosling, breaking character on “Saturday Night Live” has become a bit of a … thing.
Not to be a Debbie Downer – did anyone get through those alive? – but longtime castmember Kevin Nealon has no respect for the encroaching trend.
“I never broke character on SNL,” Nealon, a regular from 1985 to 1996, posted Tuesday on X. “I knew how much time the writers put into those scripts. You don’t want to be the one who throws it off.”
That may be true, but it sure gets attention, the latest example being Gosling, who couldn’t get through a sketch earlier this month wherein the writers made some last-minute joke changes that weren’t revealed until they were live, from New York. Moments like that may be viral, but there’s one other “SNL” heavy who famously doesn’t approve: Producer Lorne Michaels.
“Lorne doesn’t like when the cast breaks,” Nealon continued. “Even if the audience laughs, it doesn’t work for the sketch. If I could get through the Chippendales sketch, I could get through anything.”

Some sketches like Celebrity Jeopardy work better with nobody breaking. Others, like Lisa from Temecula and Beavis and Butthead are majorly amplified when people do break.
imo at least.

I think Lorne is pragmatic enough to understand that fans like occasional breaking, even if he is philosophically opposed to it, and SNL needs viral sketches.

Nealon did Weeds and he appears on the late night talk shows occasionally too and had some stand up specials on cable and streaming.

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread
It's fairly obvious that Lorne has loosened up on the breaking thing, since they just did a sketch where the whole point was to make Gosling and Padilla laugh.
Things have changed since Nealon was on SNL. Back then, the cast was banned from making commercials to endorse products.

We still have the last three episodes on the DVR unwatched. I've been watching since Eddie Murphy.....and I just don't find it funny anymore. Most weeks I just maybe chuckle a couple of times, and that's during weekend update. I think I'm done.
