I'm remembering a certain TV series apocalypse where all they showed was The Bob Newhart Show....

Maybe they could do shows around the political conventions if this shutdown lasts for a while.

Watching Bill Maher, which is only just mildly a comedy show, without a studio audience was weird. It felt like every joke bombed due to the silence of the (lack of) audience. One of those things you don't appreciate until it's gone.

Maher's show wasn't TOO bad since he had the crew in the back as an "audience" (although laughing at jokes you wrote seemed kind of odd).

John Oliver on the other hand REALLY felt off, as he was telling jokes with no reaction to them. I never appreciated how much a show like that needs an audience until this past weekend.

So for the next three months all we are getting will be guys filming themselves in the basement on YouTube?

Deadline says several shows are going to try to finish their episode orders. Supernatural still has 2 1/2 episodes to shoot and they are done for good. We could see some season finales air in June or July.

I posted the news in the Ken Burns thread. PBS's website or the app.

Any guesses on which shows might actually reference the CV pandemic or even incorporate it into their storylines when they do return? Or will it be too touchy of a subject? Maybe some of the medical dramas?

The Chicago shows just did a 3 episode virus arc in the Fall.

I don't think any other show would have the guts to tackle that in any storyline. It would feel tasteless.

It looks like the next New Amsterdam episode features an "outbreak" but it's supposed to air on April 7th.

This is really going to impact the tv schedule in the coming months.

I wonder if CBS will start Big Brother early, or even try to squeeze an extra season in. It's about the only show they can still produce while the nation is under quarantine.

And ABC could bring back Glass House, too.

American Idol has suspended operations. The pre-taped episodes will run. Live episodes were to begin in Mid-April, but are now TBD.
On a similar note, American Ninja Warrior stopped filming a couple of weeks ago.

I wonder if any of the soon to launch streaming services will move up their launch dates to capitalize on people being home.

I was thinking "who in their right mind would isolate themselves in the Big Brother house now" but then I remembered some of the previous contestants.

Feasibility-wise I'd still think you need a pretty large crew to set up all the events and stuff, so I'm not sure how that saves them from this, unless they can just roll tape remotely and let things play out.

More of a coincidence but Bull's episode this week was about Anthrax and involved people getting quarantined. Close enough that the actor had a lead-in out of character explaining that it was filmed months ago and had no connection to what's going on now.

On Fox's The Resident last night, they started a storyline of a patient having Candida auris which is fungus. It looks like the next episode will deal will the hospital trying to contain the outbreak of it.

Brockmire's season opener tonight was set in 2030; it opens with a whole segment about society falling apart and descending into chaos.

Anyone else finding their dvr building up with shows, and no real desire to watch? I can’t focus on fiction very well now, it just feels like trivial bullshit. I know this is probably me still trying to come to grips with this new chaos, hopefully I’ll start to feel more normal soon.

For me I need the distraction. I can’t sit and watch CNN all day and see the numbers of infected rising all the time. That would just drive me crazy and produce extra stress I don’t need. I need some entertainment in my life right now. TV still has new content coming out until at least early May and beyond that it could be a barren wasteland.

Now is the time for you to unplug if you are secure in your home. People are going stir crazy watching the 24/7 coronavirus coverage with nothing else available.

I work in healthcare and have been in the middle of the shitstorm for the last 2 days. I wish I could unplug, but right now I feel obligated to stay plugged in. Even when I get home I can’t stop looking at new comments in these threads here and Reddit. Anxious as fuck about tiny things, like realizing my house is full of NSAIDS and no Tylenol.

Daniel Dae Kim just announced on his Facebook page that he was tested positive for Covid-19. Sounds like he caught it while filming New Amsterdam in New York. And as most of you know, NYC was hard hit by the virus.

That sucks. But, it sounds like he's getting better.
