Kinda ironic since tv has a captive audience right now with so many people shuttered in their homes.

They can't risk filming and risk hundreds of the crew members and actors getting sick. There's liability issues.

I'm sure you weren't aware, but a crew member in Chicago on the new FOX show neXT was diagnosed with the illness a few days ago. Who knows how many he came in contact with.

I realize that. It's still ironic that an industry that would benefit greatly from the situation has to shut down because of it.

For the procedural shows which might be done with this season without fulfilling the entire 22+ episodes order, one possible way forward is to order more episodes for the next season.

Something like this was done for Bones seasons 3 and 4, back in 2007-2008 after the writer's strike.

Re: Coronavirus news -- TV edition

Yes that happened during the 2007 writer's strike. Some shows get ballooned episode orders the following season.

FX shuts down Fargo, Snowfall, Atlanta, and Y the last man for at least 2 weeks.

I also read Lucifer shut down as well. They were shooting the season 5 finale.

Fargo wasn’t done filming? Surprised. FX usually seems to have the season in the can before premiering.

Sucks though now I will have more time to clear my DVR with no new episodes

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live is joining fellow late-night shows CBS‘ Late Show with Stephen Colbert, NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers in suspending production over the coronavirus. “Jimmy Kimmel Live has determined it is in the best interest of the staff and crew to suspend production on the show beginning Monday, March 16. We will continue to monitor this and hope to be back on the air with new shows Monday, March 30,” the network said in a statement Friday.

CBS’ Late Show with Stephen Colbert is joining its NBC late-night counterparts in suspending production. “The Late Show has postponed production on the three original episodes scheduled for next week, which lead into a previously scheduled hiatus,” the network said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely with plans to return on Monday, March 30.”

With state of emergency declared in New York over the coronavirus pandemic, New York-based shows have started to suspend production. That includes NBC’s late-night programs The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers, and syndicated daytime talker The Wendy Williams Show. All three had previously announced that they would film with no studio audience over coronavirus concerns.

NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will tape an original episode today, March 12, without an audience. Late Night with Seth Meyers will not tape an episode today and an encore episode will air. Instead, a new “Closer Look” will be posted as a digital exclusive. You can watch it below. In it, Meyers addresses the show shutting down.

Beginning tomorrow, The Tonight Show and Late Night will pause production through their previously planned hiatus, which was scheduled for the week of March 23.

I wonder, if they had to scuttle a season for some catastrophic reason, if they would pay out some kind of stipend to all of the racers, or divide the million dollar prize among the remaining teams.

According to Reality Blurred, the CBS Reality Comps have a similar contract that states that it's at the producers discretion to award the prize after the all the episodes have aired which implies that if a season doesn't air they don't have to issue the award. That doesn't mean there wouldn't be a payment, but it would probably amount to their stipend and/or per diem. This also means that no one from the previously filmed season of "The Amazing Race" have gotten their prize money yet; the show isn't even on the schedule even though it was filmed in Fall 2018. If it doesn't air, the winners might not get their million.

General Hospital Suspends Production Over Concerns Of Spreading COVID-19 Coronavirus.

As the Coronavirus, known medically as Covid-19, continues to spread across the 50 states and infection cases rise, General Hospital has decided to suspend the production of new episodes. According to Deadline, who first reported the news, episodes will cease production beginning Monday March 16. The show is expected to resume filming new episodes on Friday April 10. ABC does not anticipate any interruption in the broadcast of original episodes.

Today ABC also announced on Monday March 16 the popular late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live will also cease production with the hopes of a return by March 30. Yesterday it was reported that Grey’s Anatomy was shutting down given the growing concern of the pandemic and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s orders on limiting public gatherings to 50 people. Grey’s Anatomy and General Hospital film at the same studio, Prospect Park.

If pilot season ends up being a complete bust this year, then it wouldn't be too surprising to see very few further cancelations other than what has already been canceled/ended (ie. Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, Criminal Minds, The Good Place, Modern Family, etc ...).

Great so if this thing continues through the summer, the only new content to watch will be the news channel hammering our minds to death about the virus. ugh.

If a show has a 22 to 23 episode order, chances are they will only be short 2 or 3 episodes since we're so close to the end of the season.

Cable on the other hand might be different. Cable seasons are short and if a show only finishes 6 or 7 of a 10-13 episode order, there might be a problem.

A lot of cable shows that would air in the summer have currently shut down

Fall 2020 will be impacted if this doesn't die down by late June or July.

SNL shuts down, as expected

Saturday Night Live is going dark amid the coronavirus outbreak.

NBC sketch series is shutting down for three weeks, according to a source with knowledge of the news. NBC did not immediately respond to request for comment.

SNL had been set to return on March 28 with John Krasinski as the host and Dua Lipa as the musical guest. Like other films that had been slated for a release soon, Krasinski's movie A Quiet Place Part II was already pushed back until later this year.

Of course, SNL films in front of a live studio audience, and many other shows that do so (like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and many late night shows) have already suspended filming.

SNL is 16 episodes into its 21-episode season and it's currently unclear whether the comedy series will pick back up for those final episodes.

I was looking forward to all the hilarious "quiet place" jokes they'd be making with no audience.

I wish they could do SNL if front of a empty audience and see how many times they would break.

Maybe they could do shows around the political conventions if this shutdown lasts for a while.

We'll know we're in the clear when SNL does a version of this sketch again:

just wanted to thumbs this up. It’s the very definition of irony.

Also bummed about SNL etc; humor helps right now.

Guess it’s time to stream classic ‘70s TV instead. I could go for some Courtship of Eddie’s Father ...
