Re: Superman & Lois TV series coming to The CW

Batwoman and Superman and Lois will be the big CW/DC crossover event in 2021

No big crossover in December due to the pandemic and production delays.

Though they caution to add it won't be anywhere near as big as past events.

The entire cast has been announced for a couple days if you go looking for it. Without giving away too much of the planned series, Lex Luthor has been recast on the show. It won't be Jon Cryer's Lex.

Is it a secret Why don’t you just say who it is?

There’s no mention that Lex has been recast. I will believe it when Deadline or Variety report it.

The Jon Cryer Lex still exists in Supergirl’s National City.

If I explain who it is, most of the plot for season one gets exposed here. Only read below if you want all of season one ruined for you in advance. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Spoiler:

Wolé Parks has just been cast as "new" villain The Stranger on Superman & Lois. He's a bit actor from the Vampire Diaries.

But he's not a new villain at all. The Stranger is really a Lex Luthor in disguise from a parallel Earth..his true identity is a mystery on the show and a crucial plot point of season one's arc. He's intended to be the show's primary nemesis and main Lex since Jon Cryer won't be available most of the time.

Some of the things I read speculate that he could be The Phantom Stranger too

The speculation, I don't know about that. But, here's the Deadline story about the actor being cast.

Even if it is, it’s not really a recast based on the description you gave.

I effectively stopped watching the Arrowverse shows years ago, but check I. For the crossovers. I haven’t disliked this Superman, but I’m not eager to watch. I might check something out, but all the Betlanti shows have become very blah, so I’m doubtful I’ll watch long term.

I feel like that’s quite sad too. I mean, check out my user name.

Okay, recasting may have been a bridge too far. More like a bait-and-switch. The creative talent has been spread pretty thin by Berlanti. They only had a few writers that really knew the comic book stuff at all. They started on Arrow and were moved to Flash when that show began, but have now been spread to the winds.

As an old DC fan, I'd give the upcoming Stargirl a real shot this week. It's Geoff Johns' passion project and he's intimately familiar with the Justice Society characters. I suspect it will have some of the magic Berlanti's early DC efforts had.

I'm hopefully optimistic about Superman & Lois. I think every effort will be made during season one to play it fairly safe, which should make for a better show.

It sounds kinda similar to what Marvel did with Reed Richard/The Maker after Secret Wars.

Can’t seem to get a picture to upload, but Superman’s new suit was revealed (link below). Looks pretty good. I like the red belt to break up the suit.

Probably better than this Superman's original costume, but it's not traditional enough for my tastes. I absolutely loathe that shade of yellow used on the emblem.

I haven't posted about it but there are tons of inside dirt flying around about this program.

Well, apparently Superman doesn't have enough name recognition or appeal to carry a show on his own, hence adding Lois to the title. I'm sure that will set off a few people.

I may or may not check this out. Lost interest in the Iris show after she got stuck in the mirror dimension. Legends somehow fell off my radar too.

Besides the lame costume, why does CW Supes have a 5 o'clock shadow?

You're forgetting "Lois and Clark" from The '90s....
