Still love the show; still think they're shifting how their characters react to situations to fit the story they want to tell.
Beth heard the VM but didn't see any of the texts or missed messages? Saw all that on her phone and went to the VM rather than sending a quick text about traffic?

if she didn't get the messages until the phone was re-charged, she was very angry at that point (she was angry heading into the dinner and then with traffic, and the condescending nature of the dinner and Randall's behavior) she probably just knew the voice-mail was going to be the capper.
If the phone was working the whole time and her story was an excuse to avoid a confrontation, she could have decided (because she was angry with him) to let Randall sweat it out and make an appearance to stick it to him a little, and then came the voice message, but she was decent enough to go through with the dinner before lowering the boom on him later (and the dinner only made things worse).
..or maybe not...

if that were me, I'd pull my wife aside, and be honest with her, say I left a rather nasty VM when I thought you ditched me. I'm ashamed, please give me your phone and let me delete it. End of drama.

Real good acting by both Beth and Randall this week. Their argument felt very real; not scripted. Only complaint is that we know Beth was a lawyer for over a decade at least. Was Randall smothering her during all those years while their children were young and they both had full time jobs? They explained it when they were young and met; they explained it in the present; what happened during all those years in-between which kept the issue festering with Beth? Did she not choose the path of her career on her own?

Tough episode, seems like revisionist history, but they did a good job if they want to set the stage for a separation...

The call out of his anxiety attacks was definitely a bitch move. Walking out was the correct response from Randall.

So is the baby going to be Jack Pearson or Jack Damon? It seems that Kate didn't take Toby's last name so what would the baby's last name be? Maybe Jack Pearson-Damon? I'm not sure I would want to name a preemie Jack since there's the possibility that it might not make it.
So Kate just had to introduce a new toy of her choosing into the baby's life after she got rid of all of Toby's original Star Wars figures that he wanted to share with his child one day.

yetIt's been interesting to read some of the post-finale interviews with the producers and actors on a couple of the entertainment sites. The interviewers have all these questions about the flash-forward (where's Miguel, What's with Kate and Toby?, etc.) and every single time they get a "We can't tell you yet". It's funny to me because it's kind of obvious they want you to ask these questions (internally, at least) but the point is to maintain the mystery going into the next season's storylines. However, they did say they probably won't address why Miguel wasn't with Rebecca at her possible deathbed for yet another season.

Yeah they have to maintain some mystery, are kate and toby separated? Baby jack looks like he made it, young kevin clone arrives, so he has a kid... a few more storylines to kick around for the 2nd half of this series run..

Wife pointed out that Toby wasn't wearing a ring so we assumed they're not together in the flash forward. Either that or Kate passes away at some point?

TV Line did a detailed analysis of the flash-forward sequences through-out the season, -there are a lot of possibilities and I'm sure they'll throw some curveballs in there. Of course, when someone said they talked to Toby's now-adult son Jack and "They're on their way", a message board responder guessed "Perhaps Jack in non-binary".

Could be. Just saying "they're" leaves it wide open to be almost anything. Hell, I'd assume not even the writers know exactly where it's going yet.

I think season 2 was better.
The Vietnam story was the highlight of the season and less scenes with Jack Pearson in season 3 which sucked.

That's good, they can do a nice roadmap and hopefully finish this in a good manner...
