To be fair, someone else mentioned it first and WSB merely agreed.

Although I just reread the original comment, and I think that person was referring to the viewer wanting the dragon to survive, not Bronn wanting that.

I don't know if you could realize it just from the scene or not but, Dany has 100K Dothraki against 10K Lannisters. There was no way she could lose that battle. Bron mentioned before Drogon even showed that they were gonna get slaughtered. Even though we some Dothraki die it really wasn't that many at all. Other than Drogon getting shot this was nearly a flawless victory.

Seven seasons in, and it continues to blow my mind how devastatingly gorgeous Emilia Clarke is. I can't help but watch the screen in a state of perpetual swoon.

I think of the Dothraki as the GoT version of the Klingons (wonder why?).

The Doths are a warrior culture. They live to fight and likely consider it an honor to die in battle (and a disgrace to die peacefully in their yurt). They're expecting to kill and loot and would likely have considered it to be a huge insult & breach of faith if Dany had tried to hold them back from the assault.

Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war!

I love Game Of Thrones, including this episode, but the show was never on the level of those. No, it wasn't. So why expect it to be now?

None of those were perfect throughout there entire runs. The Wire came really close but the last season was somewhat lacking compared to the previous seasons. Game of Thrones will go down as one of the greatest shows of all time. It will be missed when it's gone.

Yes of course, still no reason to have a bad battle plan. You could argue that the Dothraki didn't care about formation, advantage, terrain and all that, but Dany/Tyrion's decisions have been ridiculously bad. I'm half surprised they didn't have the Dothraki arrive in single file

.
I have never watched The Wire, but I think GOT is a different type of storytelling then The Sopranos and Mad Men. The Sopranos and Mad Men (which I loved) essentially were about Tony Soprano and Don Draper (along with exploring the supporting cast). So from Episode 1 until the final episode, you were focusing on their story and character development. GOT is a different type of show where it more ensemble and no true protagonist (although we all have our favorites). I have no problem with this season being more about the 'payoff' because it built such a narrative with each character that they've earned it.

Most shows would have have those dragons gone full bore in an earlier season, but GOT waited til Season 7 to really unleash one of them in battle. That takes patience. We waited 7 seasons for an Arya/Bran/Sansa/Jon Snow reunion, we waited 7 seasons for Dany meeting Jon Snow, we waited 7 seasons for each character to essentially choose a side for the final war. We have followed these characters on their own for 6 seasons in all of these different stories and many of them have never crossed paths (unlike Mad Men and The Sopranos where all of the characters interact in almost every episode). So the payoff this season and next season is rewarding and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Sometimes I am grateful for DVDTalk. On another forum I frequent, a few folks have been unable to restrain themselves from posting spoiler content, and then get defensive when people tell them to shut up. Nice having a place where that shit isn't allowed AND people get why it isn't allowed.

I know most here don't care about ratings and for Game of Thrones it doesn't really matter anyways.

FWIW, this was the highest watched episode ever of the series despite the leak.

10.2M viewers.

With on demand and streaming factored in it's probably even higher.

Yeah, on another forum someone posted about the leaked episode before broadcast, and some people weren't aware that that had happened. I guess people did that here as well, but it was relatively mild.

But you're only sometimes grateful?

Same. I held off on purchasing Westworld because I figured I could watch it during this window.

You forgot to mention non-leak pirating.

I think she may have been letting off steam. Venting. After two defeats she was ready to go nuclear but was talked down by Jon and the others. Next thing you know she's taking out an army but no innocents. She did appear reckless.

I was hoping Cersei lost the gold. Wanting to see how she's react, maybe try to take over the bank by force. She still could try to pull something like that if bank pulls it support after this and leaves her broke.

We'll certainly see some big deaths before this show is over. No need to rush things.

With that said, Bronn dying in this episode wouldn't have been out of line.

I agree with her and said so on page 2. No one wanted Bronn to go, but it made it a relatively consequence free battle. Since we only really know Jaime and Bronn there, and Jaime has plot invincibility at the moment it had to be Bronn.

Wouldn't be surprised if the next episode opens with Bronn or Jamie discovering half his face was melted off in the battle. At the very least they're going to end up as prisoners (maybe with Dick On, too).

Fuck the logistics shit, Bronn still needed to meet Tyrion at least one more time, so no, he shouldn't have died, random Vox writer.

I kind of agree that Bronn should have died, but I'm ok that he didn't. That said, if Bronn, Jamie, and Dickon aren't in chains as prisoners next episode, and have managed to somehow escape, that would be utterly ridiculous.

If they are in chains, then we get a great Bronn-Tyrion-Jamie reunion!
