The waif stabbed her the instant she turned around. There wasn't time for her to react. It's like "voice-turn-knife-ouch". It's not like Arya was expecting it. She let her guard down, plain and simple. You could tell she realized her mistake when she was walking through the crowd. She realized anyone could be out to get her, and she'd have no idea.

That Arya let her guard down is the point. She should never have done that. Particularly when she knows she has already betrayed the Faceless Men/Jaqen.
I do agree, however, about the walk through the crowd. But knowing what she knew, she should have already been that suspicious of everyone.

Didn't care for any of the Hound stuff, especially since all those people were just there as cannon fodder and didn't like all that time spent just to do a very stereotypical "villagers killed while he's away" type of thing, especially featuring the savage guy trying to be good.
Also thought Arya getting stabbed felt too easy and she definitely should have been expecting the worst from everyone.

What structure were the Hound and co. building in the middle of nowhere anyway?
Also, since Mormond brought up the whole "not a Stark" thing, in the case where a girl is the heir of the house, what happens? Does the guy who marries her become Lord and take up the name? If he's already an heir to his own house do they then unite?

The closest we have is Bronn, who is betrothed to Lollys Stokeworth. If he marries her, then he would probably become Lord Stokeworth, taking his father-in-law's name and title.
Davos Seaworth was originally lowborn and was rewarded with a title and keep by Stannis. I believe that he also selected his own house name (Seaworth). I think his wife was lowborn as well.
With Lady Mormont, what I think would probably happen is that she would marry a second or third son of one of other houses, like Glover or Manderly, and then her husband would become Lord Mormont. Being a male of a noble house who isn't an heir would sort of render his own house name useless, like Benjen Stark, who ended up taking the black.

Well if you want a really crazy theory...

I read this observation on ew.com. Freaking amazing if true. I wouldn't put it past the writers to come up with this:
"I'm kind of shocked that everyone thinks that the stabbed girl was Arya. She wasn't carrying Needle and she was dressed in different clothes that looked suspiciously like Syrio Forel's. There were no scars on her face and she had bag loads of money (when she could barely make a living as a beggar). Her attitude was incautious and glib and completely out of character for Arya. Yeah, that wasn't Arya.
Jaqen/The Kindly Man was able to change his face to hers when she went blind. Who's to say he couldn't have taken her face this time and this is actually a test of the Waif's faithfulness to the order in obeying his command not to let Arya suffer? The Waif clearly disobeyed by twisting the knife in her gut - and by the way, she stabbed "Arya" in the same way Rob's wife Talisa was stabbed during the Red Wedding. I think the Waif is a Frey, and she's about to become the face that is added to the halls of the Faceless Men.
I'm calling it. This whole thing was a test for the Waif and when "Jaqen" said "A girl had many gifts" he was referring to the Waif and her desire to kill Arya, something he promised her. Why? She's a Frey. Remember her story? Who else in the show do we know who goes through many wives?"
I want to believe Jaqen is truly Arya's friend.

This was one of those "calm before the storm" episodes for GoT. I liked the James Bond-style pre-credit sequence. I really liked Jon and Sansa stumbling about, begging for help and failing miserably. I also liked McShane's acting. Also, the scene with Cersei and the Queen of Thorns was truly excellent for both actors.
I thought the "slaughter the innocents to revive the Hound's anger" gambit to be a bit cliched. I also thought Arya was acting like a complete fool, I have no idea where that plotline is going. The Iron Island stuff was just sort of "remember these people are out there" type stuff.
Overall, this set us up well for the final three episodes, next week should be crazy.

As always the grandma Tyrell stuff was good. Loved her telling Cersei off. Glad the Hound is back.
That qoute from EW.com is interesting about Arya. However her clothes and money could have been a gift/reward after saving that actresses life.
My first thought was that she was contacting Tyrion. But she shouldn't know where he currently is.

I agree - it was a mass slaughter - there would have been screaming, running, etc... if they were so keen on killing everyone - I'm sure they would take time to rape the women, etc first. Just seemed a bit too "convenient" the hound off around the corner, and comes back and is like "oh.. wow.. everyone is dead.. good think I can always fall back on my former career as an evil warrior."

Something definitely did not seem right with the entire sequence. Not sure if I'm willing to go as far as the EW piece with it, but there is more to this than what we were led to believe.

I hate the waif. Maybe she and Ramsay should square off.

It was pretty hilarious how the queen angered her grandmother to leave town by trying to get her to tattoo that rose on her thigh.

Yeah, hated that aspect of it too. No idea how The Hound hears some cries and is yet too far away to witness any thing over there. The entire sequence couldn't be more cliche and cheesy.

My only problem with that theory is the part at the end where she is walking through the market bleeding out and scared of everyone. If it was Jaqen not sure why he would be doing that.

I don't think this has been fully explained in the novels, and I don't think it's come up with any of the main characters. If it did happen, it was either with characters only mentioned in passing or from the deep hisrory of Westeros.
The closest we have is Bronn, who is betrothed to Lollys Stokeworth. If he marries her, then he would probably become Lord Stokeworth, taking his father-in-law's name and title.
