I didn't notice that in particular, but one of my (minor) complaints about the first episode is that if often felt like they were trying to cram in too many jokes, and as a result, the pacing felt rushed. I imagine that is something they will work out as the series progresses.

Finally watched Reptilicus and I can't be happier. This exactly what I have wanted for so long.

I felt the same way - the jokes are flying furiously and it's sometimes difficult to "ingest" one before another is flying at you.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

I only have a couple of issues.
Tjhe voices of the Bots and Jonah are two hard to distinguish when in the theater
except for a tiny head movement to see who is speaking.

I really wanted to see the beginning of when Jonah went on the ship and not 2 months later.

So great. Binging these now on an empty sports Sunday. On #4 now. The voices are different but still hilarious.

Watched Reptilicus. I've been looking forward to this. Surprisingly, I didn't like it. I didn't chuckle once.

I'm liking it. Though this is a show where I could never binge watch. First, they're 90 minutes each. Second, you have to be watching it without distractions to enjoy it. It's not the kind of show you can look away and still get enjoyment from.

You never partook of the Turkey Day marathons in the '90s? Man, those were the best. I remember getting so annoyed at having to go and eat dinner.

There's different types. I've actually had trouble watching more than one old episode on DVD, especially on a weekday after work. That said, over this weekend I've managed to watch 2-3 a day of the new show.

The Turkey Day Marathons had that sort of A Christmas Story marathon aspect to it, in that it's better if you've seen them in completion before, and then can kind of tune in and out over the course of the day as you have the free time available. On the recent Youtube Turkey Day Marathon streams, I've put them up on the TV and watch as I drift in and out of the kitchen between various tasks.

I'm surprised Reptilicus wasn't done with either Joel or Mike. When I was a kid I thought it was a great movie. Fast-forward to watching it again as an adult and I couldn't believe how bad it really was. Especially the effects.

This episode wasn't too bad, once I got used to the new voices. I did laugh from time to time. Not quite the huge laughs with the old show, though. But it was better than expected.

HA! Same here.

Love the return of MST3k, and have gone thru the first 3 episodes, laughing out loud a lot.

No complaints AT ALL.

I thought the first episode and a half were hilarious so far. Not best episode ever quality, but right up there in par with the past seasons. And that monster rap song, holy crap was that awesome. Already thinking that it may end up being one of my favorite MST3K songs of all-time.

I noticed this yesterday while watching "Avalanche", and Crow and Tom were flying drones to cover the naughty bits in the T&A scene.

Cry Wilderness was freaking hilarious, lol! The host segments seemed too short though, and I miss the Hexfield Viewscreen in the SoL's background.

I remember reading that the Hexfield Viewscreen, which was actually a small stage off to the side of the main stage, was a nightmare to act in as it was so cramped. It had a charm of its own, but it's probably not surprising Joel didn't want to subjugate anyone to that experience again.

That's what was so fun to see it when it was used.

Obviously not a screen and watching someone trying to
create a scene in there was great.

In the Q&A video available to Kickstarter backers, they talk about rehearsing and shooting this song.

That monster song is probably the first MST3K song to ever get stuck in my head in all the years of watching.

A negative review has turned up:

"The New MST3K Is a Bad Show About Bad Movies"

(I agree with what's said in the comments section below the review)

At least it's from a fan of the old show, or someone who claims to be.

This bit...
Gags like Ray, a white guy, rapping about folklore monsters make the whole thing feel like you're sitting through a bad episode of "Prairie Home Companion" on codeine
Seems like "white guys can't rap" racism.

He apparently fixed a bit in the article where he stated the show started on Comedy Central, and now mentions starting on a "UHF station."

I have to say, I generally can't stand rap, but as I noted above, the monster song is one of the few MST3K songs to ever stick with me. This guy really seems to have an axe to grind, instead of actually critiquing the show.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000

I watched the first three episodes. Even though I backed this on Kickstarter, I wasn't expecting too much. Reptilicus was good enough that I realized my expectations were too low, but Cry Wilderness was right up there with the best MST3K episodes for me. Stellar riffing and the movie is so hilariously bad. And they managed to get in a Garth Marenghi's Dark Place reference!

The Time Travelers was also excellent and I'm psyched to watch the rest.

My biggest complaint isn't about Tom's voice or Gypsy's or Felicia Day, it's about the new theme song where the singer goes balls out with the "you should really just relax/for mystery science theater 3000" part. I much prefer the original theme that doesn't highlight the punchline of the joke.
