Very cool. I'm in, but worried that their funding goal is too ambitious ($2 million).

I guess the timing does make sense, what with the strange purging of MST3K merchandise a few months back, and now Rifftrax hosting "MST3K Mondays"... I guess the rights have transferred to Joel, and maybe Mike and the rest of the crew.

I'm curious who will be involved with this. Joel is the only name I saw. Judging by the text, it seems there will be a new host. Wonder who they are eyeing.

I was one of the first 100 backers. I went in at the $200 level, my highest Kickstarter pledge to date.

Those who he hopes to get involved include past cast members and writers, as well as a brand new cast that includes a fresh host as well as a new mad scientist and new voices for famous wise-cracking robots Tom Servo and Crow. “Basically, I’m trying to blend the old with the new,” says Hodgson. “Mystery Science Theater has already refreshed itself once with a completely new cast, so I think it deserves to do that again. The original cast is going to be invited back to write, produce, and do cameos as their mad science characters, and then there’s a new cast with new talent.”

Is Trace Beaulieu involved? Because without him, there is no MST3K. At least no GOOD MST3K.

Damn! I hope you don't have a voodoo doll of Bill Corbett with pins in it. (I agree that Trace is a better Crow, but Bill is pretty awesome too.)

But I do recommend following Trace on The Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/trace.beaulieu ) because he very clearly likes talking directly to his fans and responses to their questions on his "wall" there.

Officially in for $200. One day in, and Joel is approaching one million dollars! This will get two million easy, and likely to get the funds for a full 12 episode season.

When you say Shout! just picked this up, it makes it sound like they just picked up distribution for the new series. It goes WAY further than that. According to the article, Shout! has purchased "the show," as in they are now the owners of the MST3K brand and all that encompasses that brand. Best Brains is no more.

Aren't the licensing issues for the older episodes beyond complicated? That's probably a pretty big issue with the whole thing.

Yeah, they're already dealing with that and have put out 20 some DVD sets, so they know what they're doing. Presumably the contracts for the new series will include DVD/streaming rights built in, so there won't be any complications.
