Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000
The purpose of the last fundraiser was to build the Gizmoplex - which we were told would serve to fund future seasons. So much for THAT. The $7.4 million seems like a big ask this time around (although they raised over $6 million in each of their last two campaigns). I'm going to bet they don't reach it this time (unless they extend the deadline)...so we'll probably wind up with the 6 or 9-episode season.

That and a few other things are addressed in the update today.

3. Wasn’t the Gizmoplex supposed to eliminate the need for any more crowdfunding?
It’s really important to me that we clear this one up: your Gizmoplex passes paid for season 13 to be made, plus the extra bonus material we created for the Gizmoplex’s first year, and the development of the Gizmoplex itself.
It’s true that we had some additional revenue come in from new members who purchased Season Passes after the Gizmoplex opened, but that would’ve been a fraction of what we needed to fund even a single episode.
The truth is that to make a new season of MST3K, we need a substantial amount of money up front, and the Gizmoplex can’t do that on its own. If we were owned by a network, like Star Trek , they would pay for our production costs, but we’ve chosen the road less traveled, and we are instead relying on you, our tenacious backers, to help us make future seasons.
I sincerely apologize if we suggested the Gizmoplex was going to be the business model for us to fund new seasons, like Netflix or Disney Plus. We simply aren’t that big.
4. Will the new season be greenscreen or physical sets?
This one is easy! I can reveal that the Satellite of Love will be a physical set again. But I also want to remind you that 80% of the show has always been greenscreen, because that’s how we shoot the movie segments. So yes, there will still be greenscreen, but the SOL host segments will be on a set once again, which is what I think you’re really asking.
