Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000
A big update was just posted. The big news:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/1456043
I think that's pre-production, such as building sets and actually sitting down an watching the movies and writing the riffs. Joel hints at a future announcement of who the new head writer will be.
I was hoping for a new breakdown of all the rewards, since there were some new ones announced during the telethon, so I don't really know what rewards I'm all getting. The add-on store is still open, and there's mention of adding some new things to it.

Glad it will be on Netflix, I'll definitely give it a watch, but I don't have high hopes for this one. It will be too hard to capture the magic of the first three seasons.
My guess is it ends up like the Pee-Wee movie: decent, but really it just makes you miss the original.

Thanks, Netflix! You continue to add programming that is more exciting than what the networks offer. Well worth the $10 a month we pay.

New Kickstarter update: filming has completed:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/1713309
Also, backers can vote for their 10 favorite MST3K episodes to help pick the movies for this year's Turkey Day Marathon. The top 3 for each host will be used, provided they have the rights. Voting ends 10/27:

Latest Update: in celebration of Turkey Day, the first two KTMA episodes have been released as bonus videos for backers.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/1748165
I think this verifies that this previous update, from during the campaign, was in reference to these episodes:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/1423502
It sounds like they thought they had found the episodes, Joel made this vague reference in an update, and then when they checked it turned out they hadn't found them, so they backed off and didn't mention them again.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects.../posts/1748165
I'm happy to tell you that we finally found master tapes for two of the three "lost KTMA episodes" of MST3K: Invaders from the Deep, and Revenge of the Mysterons from Mars.
I actually thought we had discovered copies of these episodes at one point during the Kickstarter last year, and I was really excited that I'd be able to finally share them with you… and then it turned out that we hadn't found them, and it was a real bummer. But then, earlier this year, a few final boxes turned up. And there they were: the very first episodes of MST3K ever made.
So yeah: If your Kickstarter rewards include any of the "Classic MST3K Bonus Episodes", the two "lost episodes" are now waiting for you – a special "Happy Turkey Day" present from all of us at MST3K.

I don't want to get ahead of myself, so I'll tell you about that challenge in another update this week. Hardcore MSTies, I'll just give you a little hint: if you help us make the newest episodes of MST3K, you might just get to see the oldest episodes of MST3K.

The first half of 2017.

Right now, we're on track to finish editing all of the new episodes by the end of January!
I know a lot of you are eager to hear when the new episodes will be available, both on Netflix and – if your Kickstarter rewards include them – to download. The answer is that we still aren't 100% sure, but we're getting really close, and I think you can definitely expect them in the first half of 2017.
As soon as we have an official release date, I'll tell you.

Re: KICKSTARTER: Bring Back MST3K - MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000
I'll check it out. Netflix just added a couple dozen classic episodes like Eegah and Manos and Catalina Caper.
Over on Amazon they have a live performance by the old MST3000 guys riffing on Night of the Living Dead. It's just awful. It just doesn't work to rip on good films.

Night of the Living Dead is the only "good" film they've riffed available on Amazon Prime, there's over 30 other bad movies there.
of course, a lot more info on Rifftrax, including their own current Kickstarter, can be found on this thread:

Yes Rifftrax. I've watched a few. An awful shark movie and an awful ski movie with Sean Astin.

The Live Riff of NOTLD was one of my favorite Rifftrax Live shows.
I don't think a movie necessarily has to be bad to make for a good riff (though it certainly helps) well timed goofy comments and observations can make almost anything funny.

Kinda buried in the latest Kickstarter update is a new bonus for all Backers from Rifftrax:
There's a link in the update to claim these.
- A riff on the short film Measuring Man
- Their full-length take on Manos: The Hands of Fate, and
- Their live riff of Plan 9 From Outer Space

I have a bad feeling Servo's new voice is going to bug me too much to enjoy this. I hope I'm wrong.

I was never a big Gypsy fan, so I could take her or leave her. Is Servo's voice any lower than it was in the promos? To me, he really needs a deeper voice than Crow.

It's more annoying to get a notice that the live streaming of the first episode is available to me on sunday as an early backer. Great, I won't be online but they give you access to their 'vhx' video service.
NOW when I log in, I ONLY have access to the 'post show Q&A'. UGH
Was the first episode any good? Anyone here see it?
