Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

I enjoyed the new Chateau Christmas with Merritt Patterson. She's been getting more and more Hallmark projects over the past three years. Interestingly enough, I still have no idea why the movie is named Chateau Christmas. Nothing in the plot had anything to do with a chateau. She's a touring pianist that reconnects with a former flame when they stage a Christmas concert together. Pretty good story if you are into the world of quartet/chamber music.

I think the hotel was named Chateau something.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

The Christmas movies that I have watched so far have all been good. Just watched The Christmas Ring. Nice to see David Alpay again and a new actress I have not seen before. Another new to me actress is in On the 12th Date of Christmas with Tyler Hynes. Enjoyed both of these movies quite a bit. Definitely better movies this year than some of the ones from year's past. Highly recommend both of these titles.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

mk1 I was just coming on to comment that this years batch of films have been fun to watch. The Christmas Ring was great...and I hope we get to see more of the lead actress in future films. What the films have going for them this year is that even if they are not "great" films they are still fun films to watch. An example of what I mean by some films being technically okay but still a lot of fun to watch is Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater, which was just a nice and light film with a lot of heart to it. Also, the film was elevated a bit by the cast clearly enjoying working with each other in the film. I think you might be right that this years batch is a bit better than last years.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

I think Hallmark may be frontloading the better movies this season. Something similar happened last year with the new Christmas movies. As it drew closer to December 25th, the new premieres were less and less impressive.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Just watched an oldie, A Christmas Song (2012), which was ok.

Vudu has a few bundles on sale with an additional $2 promo code, but many of us probably have them already: The four-pack with Very Merry Mixup, Hitched for the Holidays, Christmas Ornament, and Come Dance with Me; Winter Princesss/Winter Love Story; Christmas Under Wrap/Wish for Christmas; Flower Shop Mysteries; Murder She Baked.

That wouldn’t surprise me at all. They have the territory pretty much to themselves in October and November, then it gets a lot more crowded after Thanksgiving.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

Some titles in Vudu’s three for $9.99 Cyber Monday sale:

A Country Wedding
Unleashing Mr Darcy
Marrying Mr Darcy
Moonlight in Vermont
Love on the Sidelines

There’s another movie called Christmas Cupcakes with Cindy Busby that is not a Hallmark film but looks just like one.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

I watched Candace Cameron Bure's new one last night "If I only had Christmas"

It was okay. Not my favorite of the ones she's done for the channel. Warren Christie wasn't my favorite leading man she's been paired with. Everything wrapped up so nice and tidy at the end like usual with these movies.

This past week of all the new ones that came out, I also watched

Good Morning Christmas!

Nashville Christmas Carol.

Nashville Christmas Carol was passable. I was a little disappointed with it's take on the classic tale. Only thing I enjoyed was seeing Sara Evans and RaeLynn star and perform in it.

Good Morning Christmas was cute.

I really liked Christmas by Starlight. Kimberly Sustad and Paul Campbell had good chemistry.

I also watched Five Star Christmas which starred Bethany Joy Lenz and Victor Webster. It was really charming and they did have good chemistry. Although Lenz did kind of overdo the eyebrow makeup.

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

If you go back to around post #806 in this thread, we talk about the 2019 movies and a similar Lifetime sale. Granted not all of the 2019 movies are in the sale (they probably aren’t all available digitally either), but it’s a starting point. I also found it interesting to note some of the ones I missed last year that I should catch up on.

Just watched Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater. Pretty standard light comedy, but I like Ashley Williams so I liked it. It also checked a number of boxes (and no, I don’t do this for every movie ).

-Meet cute
-Snowball fight
-Heart-tugging kids of soldiers
-Eleventh-hour misunderstanding

I often find those Eleventh-hour misunderstandings can make or break my opinion of a Hallmark movie. I've seen enjoyable movies get clipped with how they handle the inevitable misunderstanding that separates the fated couple.

Watched Lacey Chabert in "The Christmas Waltz". It was OK, the ending seem a bit far fetched. C+/B-.
Hopefully Lacey will do more "Crossword Mysteries".

This aired the other night on Hallmark channel. It's from 2018 and I went ahead and recorded it and watched it. Stars Aimee Teagarden from Friday Night Lights and Brett Dalton from Agents of Shield.

This was a delightful movie and made me happy. Based on a true story about a young woman who is diagnosed with liver disease and a stranger who offers to help her out for a living transplant.

Teagarden and Dalton had great chemistry.

That's one of my favorites. I love that it's different from the usual Hallmark Christmas formula. It reminds me of the older Hallmark Hall of Fame movies. Back when Hallmark took the time to make quality movies instead of just cranking out as many as possible.

I agree that not all eleventh-hour misunderstandings are equal. Some hint at serious problems that may arise in the thirteenth hour.

Those 10 dance lessons helped her kick it into high gear as the last minute 'understudy'.

Christmas Waltz is my favorite of the originals that have premiered this season. Great chemistry between the leads (Chabert and Kemp had already done a Hallmark Valentine movie together.)
Just trailed college football for that Saturday nite: TV-Recaps-Reviews: Saturday Cable Ratings - 'College Football,' 'Christmas Waltz,' 'Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding,' 'Danger Force' & More!

Re: Hallmark Channel's Countdown to Christmas

I watched one of the older films, Christmas Dance (2012), and liked it. It has former Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy, and I’m kind of a sucker for dance instructional movies, having been a recreational dancer myself. It definitely didn’t have the slick sheen that the current films have.

That put me in the mood for another dance film so I watched Lacey Chabert’s Christmas Waltz, which a few people have mentioned. It was really good, and Will Kemp had some great little dance sequences. Also,
Spoiler:
I don’t recall Chabert explaining to him about her canceled wedding, but when he invites her to the Waltz, he does know about it. Maybe I just missed it.

And yes, I just spoiler-tagged a Hallmark movie.
