That was like zero fun. Man I miss Season 1. The Libby stuff has gotten insane.

I know it's a big part of this era, but I don't care for the racial stuff.

Re: Masters of Sex (S2E06) -- "Blackbird" -- 8/17/14
FINALLY, Alan Sepinwall is slowly coming down off the bandwagon:
Yes, Alan, yes.
"Blackbird" takes us to the midpoint of season 2, and it's the first time I've felt any genuine concern about the direction Michelle Ashford and company chose for this season...
As we got to the end of "Blackbird," I mainly felt like the first half of the season has been shuffling the characters around the chess board, just killing time until the real work can resume...
Filling time feels like much less of a sin, though, compared to whatever on Earth it is that the writers are doing with Libby. She wasn't my favorite part of the show last year, but that was simply because her circumstance — as the kind stay-at-home wife oblivious to her husband's adulterous ways — made her scenes less inherently compelling than what was happening with Bill and Virginia, or the Scullys, or any of the other characters. Now, though, an effort to flesh her out has instead turned her into an utter trainwreck. It doesn't really matter whether she's acting out due to post-partum depression, due to frustration that fatherhood hasn't magically turned Bill into an entirely new man, due to resentment that so much of what comes with great difficulty to her comes so easily to Coral, or (as is suggested here) due to a repressed attraction to Coral's brother (not boyfriend) Robert. She has become a crazy person, and maybe that makes her a better match with Bill and his own obsessions, but she's consistently awful without any redemptive moments, as if the deck somehow needs to be stacked more in favor of the other woman in Bill's life. And where I rarely love Betty stories on "Mad Men," that show has at least put a lot of time into explaining exactly who she is and how she become this person, whereas Libby turned from pleasant blank to racist nutbar overnight.

I agree with that piece by Sepinwall. The Libby character is extremely frustrating to watch and the desperate need to make her bad just to make Bill and Virginia look better is bad writing. It's like in action films when they try to make the bad guy a total monster, just to make what the good guys do seem justifiable.
The racial stuff has been has been done to death and I know it's unavoidable, but just a little sprinkling here and there will suffice. Take some notes from Mad Men on how to do it.
Going to miss the Lillian character. I enjoyed her scenes the most.
Everyone is lying to everyone this season. Some even have multiple lies going on. It's starting to feel like a soap opera.
You can dress Sarah Silverman any way you want... put her in a period piece... write great dialogue for her, etc... but I still see Sarah Silverman. She doesn't convince me she's anyone but herself in shows/movies.

This show has moved to next day watching for me.
Can't wait for a few episodes from now when Libby burns a cross in the front yard while wearing a white hood when the new nanny leaves for the day.

I feel the same way and I was going to post something along those lines last week. It feel like every line of dialog she delivers is a set-up to a punch line. She seems way too contemporary for 1959.

Julianne Nicholson and Greg Grunberg were really great in this episode. They kind of broke my heart.
I am going to miss Lillian. She was an interesting character & a good counterbalance to the others.
