"Watching your vicious bastard die gave me more relief than a thousand lying whores," definitely ranks up there as a favorite moment. Even looking at the gif posted above, I enjoyed it all over. Joffrey needed to go. Westeros has had enough of Mad Kings.

I found Varys eyeing the throne a bit strange. I never really took him as wanting to have the throne for himself. I thought he enjoyed acting in the shadows.

I think he is smart enough to know sitting on the throne is a dangerous thing, but it has been shown that just because you are king, it doesn't mean you are necessarily the person in charge. I think he does have high aspirations though. The strange thing was for him to tip his hand like that, especially to someone that he doesn't know that well.

Help me out: If you evoke a trial by combat do you have to fight yourself? or can you just hire someone to fight for you? Like he did with Braun.
Does the crown default to the head of the king's guard - Jamie?
There must be an angle here that I am not seeing... Jamie vs Tyrion (they refuse to kill each other..they both get banished from kings landing - same result as if Tyrion were to plead guilty)

I would assume that the Champion for the crown has to be Jamie and then Tyrion will choose to fight himself (that is what I would do)

I've been rewatching season 1, and there are a lot of parallels to the current season. When Tyrion is standing trial in the Vale, he evokes trial by combat and picks Jamie to be his champion. They disallow that because he's too far away, so then Tyrion asks for a volunteer and Bron steps forward.
I actually wondered if Tyrion might pick Jamie again, but maybe his station wouldn't allow it. Plus he's not the fighter he was with two hands, of course.

I doubt they'd put Jamie up to it considering his hand, or lack thereof. And I doubt Tywin would risk Jamie being killed if things went poorly.

In any case, for the sake of this argument, it's a rather precarious place for certain people to be in. If Tryion or Cersei were to pick Jamie - there are a whole host of possibilities that could go down. Jamie could win, but in his current state still learning how to fight with one hand, and not his good one, this is very unlikely. In which case, Jamie dies, and Tywin, Cersei and Tyrion are all screwed. Tywin is out the male heir he needs to continue his family bloodline, Cersei is out her lover, and Tryion dies, too. Almost the same thing happens if Cersei were to pick Jaime and he loses, except Tryion goes free, but at the cost of his brother, and just about the only person standing by his side right now.
I doubt Tyrion will be able to pick Bronn, (note that we've yet to see him this entire trial) and even if he did, this time out Bronn would most likely decline him to save his own skin.
