I looked up the chapter summaries on one of the GoT sites... I had forgotten that some of the things were changed for the TV show regarding the circumstances leading up to and included in the trial.

I also liked the dragon reveal as he got his roasted goat kabob on! That's some good eats!

Just a thought, but that's what I had gotten from the previous episode with Daavos.

Is that what it was? I thought he was perhaps trying to leverage the Iron Bank against the Throne since they are so deep in debt. I assume the bank has an army of their own and Stannis promises prompt repayment from the Throne as soon as he takes his place at King's Landing.
Just a thought, but that's what I had gotten from the previous episode with Daavos.

While we're at it, why not just kill the dogs while they're still in the cages. You know, before they can bark and alert the guards, not to mention chase the attacking forces away. It was pretty obvious that nothing good was coing to come from keeping those dogs around, but they all just let them be. They must really be animal lovers there in the Iron Isles.
You'd think Asha would have had plenty of time over the past year on that ship to come up with a better attack strategy than that one. Then again, Ramsay apparently came up with his counter-attack plan for his assault on the Pyke in like 15 minutes so maybe they're more people of action in Westeros.

Nor did Yara not killing the dogs. Why should she? Her plan was get in, grab Theon, and get out. Why waste time killing the dogs in the cage next to Theon? It was only when Theon refused to go with her that things fell apart, and by that point, it was probably too much of a "What the fuck" moment for her to think "OK, let's kill these dogs in case we get caught fighting down here and Ramsay or his men try to release the hounds on us."
I do agree that standing there letting Ramsay speechify and slowly unlock the kennel was pretty ridiculous.

The attack was perfectly in keeping with the Iron Born way of life. These guys are basically the Westeros version of Vikings. They don't come with invading armies. They come with raiding parties, they get what they want, and they leave immediately. So that didn't bother me.

Who would ever expect that you go in on a rescue mission, and the person you are there to rescue refuses to go, and starts fighting back.
That would throw me for a loop. When Ramsey walked in there with the bleeding cuts all over his body - I was like "uh oh" - this guy is not afraid of pain and torture and will fight to his last breath - no negotiations.
I like that they came back empty handed, and the rescue mission was not so easy

Loved the episode, honestly a top 5 episode.
I didn't mind the Yara/Ramsay scene. I really liked the start of that scene, with her rowing to the dreadfort etc. The execution of the scene with the dogs was pretty bad, I agree.
Enjoyed the scene with Stannis/Davos in Braavos.
I liked the Noble kind of throwing it back at Dany, stating that she killed a good man, we are finally seeing that her actions are not always welcomed.
The Trial, I would say we got a episode 9 'Big' moment in episode 6. one of the top 2-3 scenes of the whole series.

I'll have to rewatch, but weren't there still a few of Ramsey's men standing behind him? I read it as a standoff, with the dogs being the advantage he would need and that's when Yara said "eff this, Theon doesn't even want to go."

Yep, that's how I looked at it too. Ramsey wasn't alone and it was a bit of a stand-off. Enough time spent opening the cage for the raiders to run back to their ships.

Yara leaving had nothing to do with the dogs. She left because she would no longer pay the "iron price" for Theon who she felt was no longer an Iron Islander and "dead" to her. It was clunky for sure

Although the scenes/mission was a bust I still like Yara a lot. She tried to save her blood when no one else would. The strong Women on this show are really amazing. I felt bad when she realized the mission was a waste of time.

"What The Flick" look at this episode

(Even they thought the Theon "attempted rescue" scene was poorly done)

Awesome episode, it is even better than I imagined it when I read this over a decade ago. Peter Dinklage owned this.
I also loved the look Mormont gave to Dany, "Well, you are the one who wants to rule, 200 more supplicants to go lol"

Something that bothered even though I kinda understand was Varys testifying against Tyrion. Unlike Littlefinger I don't see Varys gaining anything for all the lies he tells and secrets he keeps.

Nothing he says is false, so Tyrion only has himself to blame to trust him.

Is this the first time they've ever used the term "dwarf" on the show? I only recall the term "imp" being used.
How came Jamie and Tyrion talk nothing like each other?
