Ha, for a good read, go back and see our real time reactions to the ending:

Getting back to the OT...I remember when LOST was on we talked about how cool it would be to re-edit it chronologically. I'm glad someone did. I just wish it had that satisfying ending so we could truly enjoy how the threads come together.
Here's a video someone had made back then that shows the crash chronologically, in the style of 24, using footage from the span of the series:

They were all dead in the flash sideways only.
On the island, Jack died as the plane took off with Kate & Co. You presume Kate & Co die sometime in the future. Be it 5 years or 50.
Comparing BB with Lost is pretty apple and oranges. It's all each to his own in the end. One difference for me is I cared about the characters in Lost and their fates.
In BB it was a case of just deserts for alot of the characters. I didn't care too much when so and so dies since they weren't all that upstanding in life and it was a bit of good riddance the world is better without them etc, whereas I did with Lost.
The ending of Lost divided fans.
It leaned more towards issues of spirituality which were meaningful and profound for some whilst others were more interested in the origins of polar bears in the tropics etc. Again it's each to its own.

I think he's saying Breaking Bad wasn't even the best show on TV when Lost was still airing, which I could see making an argument for.
Breaking Bad was very good it's first three seasons, but I would say it entered best show on TV territory from season 4 on, which was after Lost stopped.

Yeah, comparing LOST to Breaking Bad is not a fair comparison, since both are different genres. I think it should be compared to other Sci-Fi shows like The X-Files and Fringe. While I thought Fringe was the better overall show, I thought Lost was a more entertaining ride, especially discussing it on the internet after each episode, which added another layer of enjoyment. I feel like it was one of the first "internet shows" in that regard.
I noticed that people that binge watch the show and didn't participate on the internet chatter of each episode enjoyed it more. When you watch the show for six years, dissect every little thing and try to theorize each mystery you'll end up setting up high expectations which can't be met.
I feel like the major mysteries were answered, but the answers were a let down, like what the numbers meant, who were the two dead bodies in the cave, etc.

Ok, so back to Lost. Did they ever actually explain what the island was? Can't remember.

Lost is probably one of top 3 shows. But you don't think too hard about some things, because then it doesn't make sense.
And of course that's why some people hate the show.
So, the island, the meaning of it changed during the show, like a lot of things in it. So the island was magical. No one could access it. No one could leave it. You had to use a donkey wheel to leave. Then everyone was leaving. And everyone could enter it. They made some changes for that to happen of course. But not all people were convinced about them.
See what I'm saying?

I actually just started my 2nd rewatch of the series last weekend. Hard to believe that the show debuted almost 10 years ago. There is just so much to appreciate from the show even if you hate the ending. The music, scenary, emotional character backstory. And it's fun to go back and see how the smoke monster toys with them.
I still like to believe that the writers had it all planned from the beginning so when Locke holds up the backgammon pieces, it is a huge foreshadowing moment. The ending may suck, but the journey is one I'll enjoy taking again and again.

Lost should have ended after season 3. The writing was horrible and the writers should have watched the Shield to learn how to create drama through dialogue instead of manufactured pauses and lack of response for three episodes.

Jack Shephard: Are you real?
Christian Shephard: I sure hope so. Yeah, I'm real. You're real. Everything that's happened to you is real. All those people in the church, they're all real too.
Jack Shephard: No. They're all... They're all dead. I'm dead. You're dead.
Christian Shephard: Everyone dies sometime, kiddo. Some of them before you, some... long after you.
Jack Shephard: But why are they all here now?
Christian Shephard: Well, there is no "now", here.
Jack Shephard: Where are we, Dad?
Christian Shephard: This is a place that you... that you all made together so that you could find one another. The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people on that island. That's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you.
Jack Shephard: For what?
Christian Shephard: To remember. And to... let go.
Jack Shephard: Kate... She said we were leaving.
Christian Shephard: Not leaving. No. Moving on.
Jack Shephard: Where are we going?
Christian Shephard: Let's go find out.
(I do feel bad about bringing Breaking Bad into this)

I still remember the frustration about how many plots developed simply because people on the island never learned to share information. Infuriating!

I'm sort of tempted to watch this. I just don't know if I want to invest the time.

If you do, I highly recommend checking out the comments about each episode as they were originally being broadcast. Half of the fun was the audience constructing elaborate theories in an attempt to explain the show.

Don't do it! I was a hardcore Lost fan. was a member of all The Lost forums, seen every episode multiple times, blah blah. I remember watching the series finale and actually being mad with how it ended. So much was left unanswered it was absurd. It was sloppy. It didnt make any sense. The flash sideways nonsense seemed like it was just thrown in there at the last second and had NOTHING to do with the story. I started watching Lost around season 4. Binged watched the first 3 seasons in less than two weeks and remember reading somewhere that all the mysteries will be answered scientifically or something like that, and this had me even more interested. Anyway, not counting the series finale, it is a great show, but a huge letdown.

I meant the chronological edit. I watched the show when it aired. I guess the thread derailed too much from the OP.

I'm in the group of people who left Lost sufficiently satisfied with the journey. It was a hugely ambitious undertaking that wasn't executed perfectly, but I appreciate the ambition and what it did accomplish. The characters were quite memorable.
That said, unless I were bored, I would see no reason to watch Lost in chronological order. I went through this once with The Godfather saga and it didn't make me enjoy or understand it any more. If anyone watches this chronological version, I'd be curious to hear if it improves the experience for you.

I wish they wouldn't call it a flash sideways as it wasn't. It appeared that way while we were watching, but before the season was over, we clearly saw it was a flash to a type of purgatory in the future -- a future long after everyone died. Ben and Hurley were probably amongst the last ones to join the group as they were the last protectors of the island from our original group. Since they lived on the island, they probably lived for a very long time.

I wouldn't. My recommendation, stay away from this piece of crap of a show with miserable, insipid writing, throw shit at the wall and see what kinda sticks philosophy, and uncreative, nonsensical, and constantly self-contradictory characters. There are a million better shows, starting with things like Deadwood, the Shield, Terriers, Veronica Mars, Firefly, the Wire...the list goes on and on....

at trying to convince someone not to watch a show they've already watched and formed their own opinion.

Not what I was doing..."I'd probably watch it out of curiosity" could be read as a general statement, a conditional based on not having seen the show before, not specific to that poster, as in I'd probably watch it out of curiosity if I hadn't seen it before...glad the confusion made you laugh, though.
