But guns working in space means no reason to invent laser rifles!

Re: Mythbusters 2014 Season
I never heard 10lbs of crap in a 5lb bag as meaning something that's impossible. I always heard it used to mean a really bad (or messy, either figuratively or literally) situation
I like how the front sight on the 10/22 was there on some barrels and gone on others. granted it wasn't needed for that test but it stood out on the close ups. It was also interesting that on the 135 degree test the bullet was already sideways before it hit the gel
I wonder if they violated local ordinances by discharging a gun in their shop

Re: Mythbusters 2014 Season
I caught up on the last few episodes last night.
The ping pong experiments were interesting. I like how it defied the usual Mythbuster's "moar power!" mentality of ramping up a myth. Ice canon was boring, as soon as they dismissed the "fillers" for the canon ball without testing I started FF through most of the segment. It would have be interesting to see how various pykrete like materials performed as both ball and canon.
The gun episode was surprisingly good, considering they seemed to have run the gun myth well dry a while ago.
The "impossible" myths was weak. As Mikehunt pointed out the 10lb saying is about being messy, not impossible. And kids catch greased pigs at county fairs all the time, but it was a decent excuse for an invention-off. As for the herding cats, it was an OK concept, but kind of boring. It did a good job illustrating the difference in herd vs predator mentality. I noticed at one point Jamie had a spray bottle on his belt with a mythbuster's label. I wonder if that was related to a method we didn't see tested.
And finally the "Do this at home" show. Kind of lame as you would expect, but some of them were interesting little experiments and the show moved quickly, so it was a pretty decent episode overall.

Season finale? Seriously? Lame.

Re: Mythbusters 2014 Season
It shows they're really running out of ideas that a season gets cut down to a mere 8 episodes. Though, doesn't Adam and Jamie have some kind of tour going? That would cut down on their time as well.
I agree with Adboy, I would like to see a variety in the pairings between the A and B teams or even do one big experiment with all 5 involved.

i thought they did split seasons. usually 8-10 early in the year and another 8-10 in the later part of the year.

Re: Mythbusters 2014 Season
The show has always had unusual "season" lengths and breaks. I don't know if they consider these 8 eps a full season or not, but Discovery has a trailer up for "when all-new MythBusters episodes return later in 2014." I couldn't find anything more specific.

Re: Mythbusters 2014 Season
we only got 12 total episodes last year: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...sters_episodes
considering we'll get more than last year, i can't complain about split seasons.

Curved barrel was good. It was fun to show it in action. But once they showed that the Germans used a curved barrel gun in WWII you knew that it was going to work

Oh - did you notice that they quickly abandoned using .22 in the tests and went with the more powerful 9MM and 45 so they can "bust" the myths.

On a recent podcast of Still Untitled: The Adam Savage Project, Adam revealed they are working on some A-Team myths for this year, another Star Wars episode and an Indiana Jones Special for early 2015.

If anything, I'd wish they tone down the movie myths. Yes, we get it, they use special effects in movies. How many times must we sit through movies aren't always realistic?

That's the problem with the nature of the show. They've pretty much exhausted regular myths. They have to get creative.

Guesses for Indiana Jones: Stop a mine car with your shoes, propeller chopping boat with person in it and it gives them enough time to talk before it sinks
Star Wars: That cool drop, grab the plank & flip over a guy move Luke does

Re: Mythbusters 2014 Season
for the A-Team they should do one on how inaccurate a mini-14 is. probably prove they're as bad in real life as they were on the show
