Re: Criminal Minds -- Season 5 Premiere -- "Nameless, Faceless" -- 9/23/09

Just finished watching this and thought it was a pretty good premiere episode.

I think the episode would have been much more effective if they just picked up where it left off. Wasn't crazy about the flashback/past tense storytelling about what happened to Hotch. For me, that just takes away alot of the suspense of the incident.

I am glad that they are actually keeping the Reaper story element open this season. I thought C. Thomas Howell was a very effective and creepy villain.

Apparently from what I read in the offseason, Matthew Gray Gubler had knee surgery during the break and was still recovering when the episode was shot, hence the gunshot wound to his leg was written in.

For next week's episode, Shemar Moore was a victim of a hit and run car accident and broke his leg when episode 2 was filmed. Apparently they were able to work around the injury.

BTW, glad Paget Brewster lost the bangs. Was never crazy about that new hairstyle.

Great to have this back, and the opener did not disappoint. Mantegna seens like a perfect fit - does anyone miss Mandy Patinkin? Not me....

I really enjoyed this as well. I think this season is going to follow Hotch's efforts to deal with his attack much like an earlier season (2?) dealt with Reed's addiction.

What the hell was the point of having DB Sweeny cameo in such a limited role? Is he that hard up for work or will we see him later? I'm guessing we'll see him later as that was totally a wasted part for him if he's one and done.

The reaper storyline is pretty much set up to be either a sweeps or finale deal, since they can catch him.

That's the problem with casting a well-known actor for a supposedly minor role. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is not going to be a minor role. Something's afoot and it probably ain't good.

I like the continuing arc, but I'm a bit tired of the "who's going to get shot?" season cliff hanger.

I still do. I think it was much better with Patinkin/Gideon than Mantegna/Rossi. Not that it's bad now..... I just think Patinkin as Gideon was very very good.

Glad to see the Reaper storyline alive, I thought that ep last season was one of the show's best and I was thinking at the time that I hoped they would continue that somehow.

What happend to him? Did he leave the show on his own or was his character written out?

If I recall correctly, Patinkin quit the show after he failed to show up for Day 1 of Principal photography of season 3. He put the show in a huge hole and the season premiere and several episodes had to be re-written.

He agreed to appear in 1 episode to officially be written out, which was the season premiere, but his castmates were so pissed off with him that they refused to shoot any scenes with him. So, he ended up appearing in a few scenes alone.

At this point, I don't think any fan of the show misses him.

i miss his character, but i don't necessarily miss him. after reading what he did on that show, some medical show he was on in the past and Dead Like Me, the dude's a fucking prick.

Yeah, I don't either. Mantegna has been great on the show and seemed to fit in from day one.

This is one show that we got into via Netflix and actually managed to finally got caught up just after the season premiere.

It was obvious that the Boston Reaper story was going to carry on and I though that season 4 finale and then te Season 5 premiere flowed pretty good.

I'm another on that doesn't miss Mandy Patinkin, although to a degree I do miss his character. However, I'm much more of a fan of Joe Mantegna and his character David Rossi.

I still love the show, but I have to confess that I miss Gideon a lot. Sometimes I think I am over the character leaving but then I will catch an old episode and *sigh* it all comes back to me. I just think the show was better with him in the role.

That said, Mandy was a jack ass for leaving like that and Mantegna is good enough in his role so I am not going anywhere. Maybe I just need to stay away from A&E Criminal Minds marathons.

Thanks for the info. It amazes me how some actors can quit a show to never be heard from again. What are they thinking? If I had a spot on a popular tv show, I would be there until it got canned.

Well, for someone like Mandy, he's probably off doing plays like William Petersen, though not the same situation as he stuck around (IIRC) 2 more seasons than he had planned (I think he had initially wanted to leave around season 8).

I prefer both Rossi and Prentiss, but I had a lot more love for Gideon than I ever did Elle.

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

A case in Rossi's hometown has his personal and professional lives overlapping. Heather Vanderwaal: Cynthia Watros.

So did anyone who is a Criminal Minds fan not watch last weeks episode yet? I noticed last week got 0 comments. Thought it was a pretty solid episode. Sean Patrick Flannery was a pretty good unsub. Jon Cassar did a good directing his 1st procedural since he left 24. Sounds like this is going to be a Rossi themed episode.

Thought last weeks episode was another grat showing. Isn't that the episode where Shemar Moore had his leg broken in seperate incident whilst not filming?

One thing about the episode was when SWAT was outside the house across the stree from the school, they stil had the kid out in the yard.

Looking forward to another good episode tonight

now we know why DB Sweeny was in a throwaway role in the premiere. cool case.

Another great episode. I particularly liked Rossi's mind games when questioning the judge

I have to say this is one of the few shows that has managed to stay consistent throughout it's run so far. Long may that continue.

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

The Boston Reaper (C. Thomas Howell) returns to terrorize Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) and his family.

I know most Criminal Minds episodes are good, but there isn't alot to talk about. But since this is episode 100 and a recurring storyline is back, it's worthy of a thread this week.

Really excited about this particular episode. Entertainment Weekly gave this episode an A-.

Re: Criminal Minds -- "100" -- 11/25/09 -- 100th Episode

Okay, did anyone watch this yet?

This was probably one of the best Criminal Minds episodes ever!!

It was very violent, bloody, emotional and gut wrenching. Well deserving on being a milestone episode.

For an actor that really doesn't display much emotional at all, I have to say this was probably Thomas Gibson's best performance ever on the series. The look on his face and the emotions that he and the team felt after the Reaper:

Spoiler:

Murdered Haley over the phone was absolutely heartbreaking.

C. Thomas Howell was really creepy as Foyed....A solid nemesis to Hotch.

If your a fan of this show and haven't seen this yet, I would recommend watching it ASAP.
