Um, because then it would be all but guaranteed that the goon squad for the other leader would run in there and possibly (very likely) kill them?

Jesus Christ, some of these questions...

"If you had told me that, in 46 years, the world was going to be taken over by goons calling themselves Governor, man-eating dead people, and have my leg amputated with an axe....I'd have taken more drugs in my youth."

The whole horizontally rotating a gun duct taped to a vertical structure does not compute. And yes I was paying attention to the show.

Whether the table gun was there to outright kill Rick when he put his gun down or whether it was there as "insurance", it just furthers the narrative about the Governor, that he's a sneaky son of a bitch and can't be trusted.

With all the movies and TV shows you've (and Rick) have watched, would you have not just flipped the table over before the Gov even had a chance to sit down? How many times have we seen the "gun taped under the table" segments?

Its not a docudrama.
People have also been complaining about the "boring" episodes of the show since it started. I don't think its the show at this point. I think some are looking for it to be something its not meant to be and never will be. The first few episodes of season 1 no character got killed by a zombie then they had the battle at their campsite. That's the style this show has gone with ever since. So there will always be those slow burn episodes. Personally I enjoy it for what it is instead of focusing on what I would have made it.
I really liked this post. It sums up a lot of my feelings about the show. It's still enjoyable despite some stupid things that take place.

How do you know Rick watched movies and/or TV? Was that established?

I'm being facetitious, but still...point remains. You're nitpicking.

It's been established that the characters are genre-blind about zombies on the show, and we assume it's because there are no zombies movies in their world. But what if it was because there were...

No TV or movies at all in the world of The Walking Dead!

Twist!

Not only that - the Governor really, really, really wants Michonne. She wasn't present at the negotiations, and it'd be very likely the rest of the prison group would take off for parts unknown if Rick didn't come back.

Rick didn't pop the Governor because a) he really would prefer a peaceful outcome instead of a war against a far greater force, b) if he and Daryl got killed pulling a fool stunt it would leave the rest of the prison even more vulnerable, and c) killing the Gov really wouldn't accomplish that much at this point, anyway; Woodbury and the prison group would still be at odds, there's no guarantee the replacement leader would be more reasonable (Merle was No. 2 for a while), and there would be no chance for peaceful resolution if the prison group kills negotiators.

How dare you respond to these naysayers with logical well-stated thoughts!

Re: The Walking Dead -- "Arrow on the Doorpost" -- 3/10/13

So I just inhaled 19 episodes of The Walking Dead and now I'm up to the 3rd season and there is no easy way to get caught up. Have to decide whether I'll bite the bullet and pay $2.99 per episode on Amazon or go through alternate means. Kind of thinking that I've liked the show so much through season 1 and 2 that I'll just hand over the money. Is season 3 worth it?

Yes, pay the cash. It's worth it. The first 8 episodes of season 3 are kickass.

Seasons 1 and 2 were basically a drawing room drama. Season 3 is BALLS TO THE WALL OMFG.

Season 1 : OMG! WTF! Walkers!
Season 2 : What do we do with all these walkers?
Season 3 : Excuse while I curbstomp this walker. No don't stop talking, I'm still listening.

Not sure if you can wait two full weeks, but it looks like AMC will soon have a marathon with the full third season being aired on March 30th

IMO, it wasn't about what was going on inside ... it was the juxtaposition against what was going on outside. This will come to play a much bigger role than anything that occurred in the meeting. While the two "leaders" were inside having a "my-dick-is-bigger-than-yours" contest, the group was outside actually bonding and realizing they would be better off with eachother (and possibly without either "leader").

I was a little baffled at why the Governor shared the bit about his wife (IF he was telling the truth) but wouldn't bring up his daughter, particularly when Rick called him out on his vendetta against Michonne. The Governor spent so much time trying to appeal to Rick's sense of family, why didn't he mention that Michonne "killed" his daughter?

This is something that really baffled me with Season 1. They really could have slowed down season one and pulled multiple seasons out of it with all of the location changes ...

Season 1 -- Morgan's house

Season 2 -- Camp and City of Atlanta

Season 3 -- The nursing home

Season 4 -- The CDC

OK, maybe each one couldn't have provided a full season ... but then did any of us think the farm would?

Yes, because it was a distinct arc in the comic. Those of us who understood that also knew the prison would be a full season.
