Oh, and is there anything more compelling for TV viewing than watching contestants take a written test?

That said, have they posted the actual tests anywhere? I'd like to see how hard the math problems, sudoku, cypher, word search were.

I believe she was one of those Trekkies that despise Star Wars. I don't understand it myself but they do exist.

The 'math problems', pop culture simple arithmetic, I did in about 30 seconds. It was stupid stuff like "Darth Vader's Children or something else equalling 2)/one" or Babylon __ + something else pop culture in the single digits.

The Sudoku, I actually paused the TV and grabbed a piece of paper and filled it in. It was pretty easy, took about two or three minutes. If you had ever done Sudoku, it was 5-6 minutes tops. There are some crazy hard variants, and some puzzles requiring really difficult strategies. This wasn't one of them.

Personally, their "quiz" for the top two slots was killing me. I got every single one of them except for the JLA original member question (Silver Age DC is my one comics weak spot). Add that to the overall weakness of the remaining contestants, and it seemed to be a guaranteed $100k payday. I bet Zach was ready to kill himself - one more elimination and he'd have skated away with the game.

I've met some of them. They've actually watched Star Wars in order to despise it.

I thought it was pretty normal to have Star Trek fans that hate Star Wars, and vice versa.

And you didn't even mention all they had to do was beat the first level of Pac-Man.

I hope they'll get a more likeable cast.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

The show is dirt cheap to produce, so it could keep getting renewed for eons. As season two's cast proved, pick the wrong mix and it becomes a terrible show. The producers have shown a nasty habit of casting one or two volatile personalities each season to create drama. That formula works much better for normal reality shows.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

Bumping this, as Season 3 starts tomorrow.

TBS's website sucks, but it has some videos for each of the cast if you drop down the Watch Extras text.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

Well, season two's casting was honestly the worst casting for a reality show that I'd seen in about ten years. Fingers crossed it improves otherwise I'm gone after the season premiere.

I know one of the contestants this year. Not sure how I'm going to react to watching this

Funny to read my comments on last year's winner. I sound like an ass.

If these people are as unlikable as last year's bunch, I'm out after a few episodes.

No you don't. You spoke the flat out truth. You'd think the producers would know better.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

First episode wasn't too bad, I think the Rube Goldberg machine contest was pretty neat to do. Standard trivia stuff for the elimination, but the idea of smashing a small city looked fun as hell. Wish they would drop a lot of the silly gimmicks and antics like that weird future self thing though.

The cast doesn't seem as unlikeable as last season so far, but I guess we'll see. Not sure what that guy was thinking making the joke about not hearing the girl because she's a woman or whatever.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

This is a far better cast than last year's bunch. They could always prove me wrong but this group has fewer extreme personalities. I liked the first episode, when I don't remember liking a single one from season two.

It would have been nice if the guy that got eliminated had stuck around for a few episodes, he seemed to have a more outgoing personality than some of the others.

Watching the episode, I said out loud "Did you really just say that?" and seconds later the girl said the exact same thing verbatim.

Thankfully there are a couple cute girls on this season.

I hope that doesn't sound too misogynist.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

I just finished watching the premiere. Here's my pros and cons list so far.

Pros:
1. Killing off Kayla in the first episode. (I really did not like her).
2. A few of the nerdettes are nice to look at. (Amanda and Lily especially)
3. I thought Todd was funny, but his schtick could get old quickly.

Cons:
1. Kaitlin is the new Kayla. Please let her get eliminated early.
2. I really wish Ori was eliminated instead of Jacob. Jacob was much more likeable.
3. Booger shirtless. (I'll probably have nightmares tonight as a result of that)

No comments on the latest episode? I wonder if this "Secret Six" alliance will hold. I'd have to imagine it would, with 6 against 4.

What is this show rated? Did I imagine two of the girls talking about going down on each other? And I was thinking about watching this with my kids...

I thought that's what they were saying too, but I wasn't concerned enough to rewind it. I also notice they're not bleeping out the word "shit", which isn't a big deal on some adult-oriented cable fare like Archer or South Park, but it's surprising they'd leave it in with a show like King of the Nerds.
