King Of The Nerds - TBS

Am I the only one here watching this?

The show is your typical Survivor type game show, with the twist being its nothing but nerds. Well, the TV version of nerds. The guys are your fairly standard nerd archetypes, while the girls are geeky but still very attractive. Well, there was one real nerd girl, but she was painted as the outcast even among outcasts.

I've been catching it on Saturday, but it first airs on Thursdays at 10 and midnight. So am I alone in actually kind of enjoying it?

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

I enjoy it. My roommate worked on it.

Both of us being nerds, we weren't sure how disparaging post/the network would portray the cast. I've been pleasantly surprised that it hasn't been really making fun of how nerdy they are, and more-so embracing it.

It's not a fantastic show or anything but it's fun.

So glad to see the self professed comic nerd go home in the last episode. You don't claim to be all that knowledgeable, miss practically all the questions, and then try to excuse yourself by going "I've only been reading stuff up to the 90's who expects me to know all the really old stuff?"

In the end, Alana lived up to how everyone else in the game saw her: dead weight. I did love the twist in the first episode where she wasn't picked by either team, but was given the power instead. But the most shocking thing about her was in the last episode when she mentioned she and her husband had a large comic collection.

Husband? And he's not on the show? I mean he'd have to be an even bigger nerd, right?

If you want to see more of Danielle and what's she's known for, check out her youtube channels:

Also the show has it's own channel

It has extra footage and clips, like drunk Brandon lecturing

I haven't bothered with this show, because it's just not interesting to me.

I do find it hilarious though they cast attractive female nerds for the show.

No way would they ever cast a 400 pound zit faced female WOW fanatic.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

I've been watching this.
I do agree that while real female nerds aren't necessarily matching the classic physical stereotype, I think the ones they have on the show are on the far side of the curve.
That initial twist with Alana was interesting but certainly didn't endear her to the rest of the contestants. Not her fault. But her attitude through the rest of the episodes certainly was.

Spoiler:
Agreed, I'm glad Alana went home, I initially felt a little sorry for her but her attitude and ego was definitely not in line with her actual skills. That was funny, "Why'd they ask golden age? Or silver age? Or bronze age questions?" I think early on she did say she was married but it didn't come out later till the last ep. I would like to know what was on her tattoo they kept blurring out.
Not sure if I want Virgil or Brandon to go next. Virgil originally ticked me off but Brandon's cockiness bothers me now too.
And with Danielle getting ticked at Brandon's subterfuge - when she was fake crying - that's not over.

I still don't like the reality show format, thank goodness for DVR where I can forward through bits. but this strikes me as funny.
"Alana - has one vote. The second vote - Alana. That means Alana - you have two votes. *COMMERICAL* Alana had one vote. Then another. That makes 2 votes. One more vote and you will go home." They're NERDS, Curtis, they know 1 plus 1 equals 2.

They cast two attractive women. Two.

The 400 pound WOW fan just got kicked off.

I think Booger is explaining it to the audience, rather than the nerds themselves.

Yeah, Alana was kind of a joke in that contest. I'm not even a comics guy and even I knew the date Superman debuted.

Danielle is just adorable. Those Youtube videos actually make her more endearing even though I've never played WoW and have no interest in doing so.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

I realized this episode that the majority of the players are very unlikable. It makes cheering for someone very difficult. Also, I wonder how they found these people. For someone whose expertise was supposed to be comic books, Alana sucked balls. Her excuse of "I've only been reading comic books since the 1990s!" was super lame. I was watching the last nerd off with my son, and he was amused by the fact I got all the answers right.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

This has been a fantastic show to date, at least by the standards of reality television. These are all authentic "nerds" by the personalities and interests they've shared on the show. I was afraid the producers might cast more relatable people for television, but there is not one from the typical pool of struggling actors in L.A. that are only looking for stardom which constitute most reality shows.

A variation of Survivor using a cast like this one might make for interesting television.

Speaking of comic books, the new season of "Comic Book Men" begins Thursday night (Feb.14) on AMC.

Re: King Of The Nerds - TBS

I spent the afternoon watching all the episodes on their website, and found it pretty enjoyable. The type of nerds they have are actually pretty realistic to me, and honestly the attractiveness of some of the girls isn't too unrealistic given the type of girls you find at conventions and do cosplay or play games these days.

I wonder if there was more to the debates then what was shown? The actual debate seemed pretty quick and pretty short.

My 12 year-old daughter had the same reaction. "Wait... Husband? Who would marry her?"

So glad she's gone. She felt like a fraud anyway. I've liked everyone else eliminated. I agree that all the remaining ladies are attractive in their own ways.

I wish I could have got drunk with them. That looked fun!

Watch out when googling this one. Apparently the finale was partially filmed in public so the participants are known.
