I don't remember all the details but in Season 3 there was a period where she left the agency. I think it was because Lane brought in his own guy and she was considered redundant or something? She showed up a few episodes later working in a department store and handled a dress situation for Pete. There was concern/speculation we may not see her further but then they brought her back via the need to steal clients & info as they all jumped ship to form SCDP.

I can't see Peggy being gone from the show. Even though her role was reduced in the last season, her and Don are the two main characters in my opinion.

I love the Peggy character. It was great to see her evolve throughout the series, and I think she's very important to the era of the show as she represents the Feminist movement of the time. We don't really have any female character like that in the show.

Megan had some natural talent for advertising, but she was still just Don's sidekick and her heart wasn't in it. She wants to be an actress - so she's not paving the way for females. She'll probably be separated from Don next season anyways. Joan is a 5% partner, but only because she slept her way to that position. She's just an over-paid office manager who has a vote in SCDP. Betty's a spoiled housewife and Trudy is a housewife with VERY limited screentime.

All the other females on the show aren't much more than extras.

If Peggy is gone, then one of the important cornerstones to the show is lost - and the quality of the show will suffer because of it.

Of course! They are probably the two main characters, if this was the last we see of her, it would be a big FU to the audience.

Elisabeth Moss also needed time off to film her BBC miniseres "Top of the Lake."

Joan left the old Sterling Cooper soon after she got married. When Don and company were breaking away to start their new agency, Don and Roger broke Joan in because she knew how to handle the day to day management.

I thought this was an exceptional, though tragic, episode. I thought it would have worked out better as the season finale, perhaps as a 90 min episode. The following episode was anti-climatic.
