Nabila may be tough to deal with regarding business, but nothing suggests that she's without any redeeming qualities. She seems like she would be OK to be around outside of her work. Dave seems to be very insecure and mean-spirited, a bad mix for a TV character, even one on a reality show.
When Dave showed up with the giant trailer that said "Yuuuuuuup!" you knew he jumped the shark. Kick him to the curb.

I like Dave. Maybe it's because I hate Jarrod.

They need to bring back Marc more often with his $13,000 nintendos. Watching Barry get the better of him is something I could do all day.

I enjoyed Shipping Wars. It's interesting to see stuff of that size and all being handled. Also just watching the "rookies" bid so low on cross-country trips really makes you laugh.

Yeah so do I, but I think it's mainly jealousy.

He even has a ™ next to it on his hats and whatnot. He thinks he's real original.

Speaking of which..

According to the New York Post, Dave Hester of "Storage Wars" filed a lawsuit after singer Trey Songz sent him a cease and desist letter trying to bar him from using the phrase "YUUUP!"

Fans of the A&E reality series know that Hester's trademark phrase during storage locker auctions is "YUUUP!," and he's even marketed his catchphrase on T-shirts.

Hester says Songz claims he's used "yuuup" as his "signature sound" since 2009, but argues the two phrases are different. In the lawsuit, he says Songz' sound "resembles an animal-like or non-human squeal which begins with a distinct 'yeeee' sound before finishing with a squeal-like 'uuuup' sound," while his is a "more monosyllabic sounding guttural auction bidding phrase ... which is meant to convey the meaning of 'yes.'"

Songz hasn't commented, but Hester's lawsuit is requesting unspecified damages and the free use of "YUUUP!," which he trademarked in September, the Post says.

Shipping Wars was alright, except for the guy that called everyone else idiots. The rookies are idiots, the people shipping the stuff are idiots, the people getting the items are idiots. Every other line out of his mouth had the word idiot in it.

2 grown men fighting over the use and trademark of "Yuuuup" is just flat out stupid. And does anyone else find the name Trey Songz a little silly sounding?

No sillier than any other rapper or R&B artist who decides to go by a stage name.

Trey Songz has way more money than Hester does, so it's obviously just a cash grab. Dave's auction business can't be going that well.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

Just saw a preview for next week's show and there was no Dave, there was Nabila. She was doing the interview cut scenes between the bids.

Today I went out and about for a bit. I live in Orange County where the show is set. I found Brandi and Jarod's store. Turns out I've been by there before. It's right next to a real nice bookstore in the city of Orange (called Bookman). Place is kinda small, and I have to say, they had a lot of old junk. Some decent furniture but a lot of it, especially the electronics, was worthless.

Pro wrestler Diamond Dallas Page got into a lawsuit with Jay-Z over their hand gesture, which involved the hands spread flat, thumbs and index fingers together and space between them. It was DDP's Diamond Cutter gesture. I think DDP actually prevailed on that one.

Were either of them in there? I'm guessing they make enough from the show now that they pretty much just have hired help manning the store.

Look closer, Dave was there. However, Jarrod & Brandi were missing. If they're not on this episode, that would be two in a row that they were MIA.

Nope. Gotta figure they would take the weekend off.

Some signed pictures on the wall, though. And those Outlaw shirts Jared always wears? There was a whole wall of them.

That's because it's Jarrod's brand.

Isn't that pretty much the epitome of any thrift store?

I don't know about that. On a recent episode, he mentioned that he had to take a drug test next week(he could have been joking though).

I still crack up when I think of him saying bidding on storage lockers in itself is "a business". He's a jackass.

Also loved the bit when he dropped that priceless snuff box he found and broke it, then got all pissed.

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

There are some other horror stories about Dave's stores over on Yelp:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/dave-hester-auctions-santa-ana
http://www.yelp.com/biz/newport-cons...ery-costa-mesa
http://www.yelp.com/biz/rags-to-rich...ore-costa-mesa

Most are either complaining about the prices being too high, or not getting enough money for what they put up for auction.

It's interesting to read the reviews that were placed prior to December 1, 2010, when the show premiered.

As for the two closed stores, my undestanding isn't so much that they "failed," as more like Hester has renamed his store over the years and changed the business model slightly. It's not surprising that he created "Dave Hester Auctions" shortly after the show started, that capitalizes on his name far more than "Newport Consignment Gallery" does.

It's a pretty reputable site where people voice complains against companies that scam them. What's not to "trust"?

Re: Official Storage Wars Discussion

New episodes were interesting. Nice to see Barry make a huge find, but his hobo gimmick looked so staged.

Anyone know who the huge dude is with Nabila?
