I'm sure there's a Sopranos thread around here somewhere....

I"m currently about 8 episodes into Season 2. While I am enjoying the show and plan to see it to the end, if I had to stop watching at any point, I really wouldn't be upset. I enjoyed Walking Dead much more.

This is one of the few shows that gets better with every passing season, though Season 3 starts off brutally slow.

Recently finished S1, now on to S2. Man, all that shit with Tuco had my gf extremely tense. It's cute that she still doesn't understand they'll never kill off the main characters in a show like this.

So have a lot of movies and TV shows, but we don't go around spoiling them in threads that aren't related. And I actually am watching The Sopranos now, nearing the end of Season 2.

Re: Does Breaking Bad ever get good?
Well I just finished watching the first 4 seasons in about 10 days on Blu-ray, and have been avoiding this thread so as not to spoil Season 5.
I don't watch much TV (check my TV collection under Aficionado), and I don't even know if I have AMC on my cable package. I heard a well-known radio personality heaping praise on this show, so I said "what the heck".
I have to agree with the sentiment that this is one of the best dramas of all time. I got hooked (no pun) early on, and stayed with it. The episodes were consistently compelling, with a few slow patches in Season 3 (the Fly?). I can't imagine watching this on broadcast, with commercials, waiting a week for the next episode to air.
As a non-TV watcher, I would appreciate any recommendations for other shows which might be as compelling as this one. Thanks.

I wish I could recommend Boardwalk Empire or Dexter, Walking Dead or True Blood or something along those lines, but none of them are anywhere near as compelling imo. Actually now that I think about it, I don't think any of those are particularly good shows either.
And I feel like a fool for saying it, but watch Terriers, once the show starts rolling it's a compelling, fun 13 episodes 1 and done series.

1.) They didn't want to run another show where the main character was an anti-hero.
2.) Fear that a show that revolves around cooking and selling meth could have turned out bad for the network.

As a TV watcher, so would I. Homeland is the closest I can think of right now, but that's only 1 short season thus far.

Never watched True Blood as the subject matter doesn't interest me. Dexter needs to end already.
The only show on TV I'd rather watch the next season of more than Breaking Bad is Game of Thrones.

Terriers? I never heard of it. I may have to check it out.

I watched Dead Set just before Walking Dead started, and for some reason Walking Dead seemed kind of bland to me. I think I'm just over zombies as well.

Not sure if there's something similar.
My favorite shows, as I got as excited about them as BB, are: The Wire, Lost and Six Feed Under. They are not similar to BB, of course, but, specially The Wire and Lost, are the kind of shows that you can marathon, because "you can't wait for the next episode!!!!".

The last 4-5 episodes finally got me to the point of being impatient for the next one ,but the finale pissed me off. All season they keep hinting towards something big with that damn pink teddy bear fished out of the pool and such

Re: Does Breaking Bad ever get good?
Count me as someone late to the Breaking Bad bandwagon. Started season 1 two months ago and I can proudly say as of tonight I am caught up with the series.
Season 4 might be the greatest 13 episodes of anything ever.
Every season has been better than the one before. Easily. Though I will say I'm not as impressed with season 5, though it's still miles away better than any other show.
Keep watching. And remember what shape it was in.
