Looks like Dialidol.com really blew it this week.

They had Pia at #3, and safe from being kicked off with a projected position of #1-5.

We're all saying that Pia shouldn't have gone home, but did anybody actually vote for her? Or vote for anybody?

I didn't vote much this week, just gave Haley five votes. I thought that she was at risk and wanted to toss her a handful of votes, I didn't think that there was any chance that Pia would be voted off. Oh well.

Well, after the mess from Thursday, good news for Pia.

She was signed to Interscope Records by Jimmy Iovine.

Wow, that was fast:

..."Pia is being signed to a deal with Interscope Records who are rushing her into the studio to record an album ASAP," a source familiar with the contract talks tells Us. "Starting [Thursday] night after the show, Interscope told her they wanted her and first thing [Friday] morning Interscope brass started calling every top songwriter and producer in town to get an album together and rush release it."...
It looks like she will have an album out in the near future, possibly before the American Idol season is over.

Here's her performance last night on the Jay Leno show.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how many of the outraged buy her CD. The reason Interscope is rushing is a marketing move to capitalize on the outrage before it dies down. They're not stupid. They'll pick up many curiosity buyers if it's soon, and hardly any if it's down the line. The real test is when this controversy dies down, how many fans buy the CD because they actually like it. I'll give it a listen and go from there.

Yeah, Interscope may actually damage her career if they rush out an subpar album just for the sake of trying to cash in on the "outrage" of her elimination. Like a surprise vote is something new on this show.

I am reading that Pia has not signed with Interscope yet.

This makes more sense as 19E is the management company and produces American Idol. They would not want to diminish the show even further by having the 9th place finisher out with an album before the tour and before the eventual winner. What is the point of winning if he (let's be honest here) doesn't get the perks of having the first album out? American Idol needs a successful winner and if Scotty and his two notes can sell CDs, then so be it.

Most people like myself who did not vote for Pia say the same thing, we are not jealous of her looks or voice, we just were not entertained. End of Story. And why didn't Casey deserve the save as much as Pia or even Big Mike last year. When Casey was kicked off he was very popular and had given a couple of great performances. You can't base what Casey is doing now and go back a few weeks and say he didn't deserve the save because of what he is doing now. Did you cry about the save last year when it should have been saved for Siobhan?

There have been several online articles that stated the contestants, including Haley, were crying after the show. One article said Haley was consoling Pia after the show, even wiping away her tears and encouraging those remaining attendees in the crowd to show their support. The last time Haley was announced as being in the Bottom 3, she had this smirky smile. Some people just act differently in stressful or negative situations. I tend to let out a stupid laugh at the announcement of negative/bad news, obviously I am not happy about it.

Besides the big stories about Casey's save and Pia's exit, Haley's comeback story has been quite amazing itself. She was universally counted out 3 weeks ago, now as J-Lo said she could be a contender based on her recent strong efforts. She seems like a sweet girl, so I am taken aback by your accusation that she is so cold hearted. I think now that she will outlast Lauren and 2-3 boys. Who would have thunk it 3 weeks ago.
Wow, Dude. Check that blood pressure.

Wouldja believe that I don't think any of the 12 deserve a recording contract at this point? I thought Pia had the best technical voice but stated that she didn't display much (if any) personality. She wasn't my "favorite" (since I don't have any), but she appeared to be the judges'. Hate to disappoint you, but I haven't 'cried' about anyone's going home in any season. I leave the crying up to the judges.

And that is what so many here & elsewhere were saying. If the judges were so "outraged" (remember, they said that they RARELY get 'angry' over a decision, but this situation was different to them), then they should have kept the save for their favorites. Casey has actually gotten better, not worse. The judges had been critical of him for sameness of performance, too many vocal histrionics, growling, etc., so it's hard to believe that they thought he is one of their top two. If he is, they should have made it clear that they thought he was a front-runner, since those are the only ones who should be 'saved' this early.

I get that you think Haley's the ****, but I get tired of her thinking she has to display her ability to belt on every song. She's one of the best remaining (which isn't saying a lot this year), but not ready for prime time IMHO. That doesn't mean that she or Casey or any of the others don't have potential (well, maybe not a few).

However, I stand by my "accusation" (??) that she seemed "cold and heartless" (your words) to judge by the appearances of the telecast. Unlike you, I don't read lots of "online articles" to get backstage accounts of contestants' reactions. I was asking if it SEEMED like she was pleased at Pia's departure. I've noticed that Pia didn't do a lot of hand-holding or hugging in previous episodes, so maybe she was a little distant (or "cold and heartless") toward the others.

Regardless, Haley doesn't come across to me as 'sweet'...she seems rather arrogant and egotistical. She might be the nicest person in the world, but that's just the impression I get (and other viewers watching the same broadcast concurred). If you're taken aback by that, so be it. But our impressions of Haley have absolutely nothing to do with results for any other contestant.

I don't think she was pleased, she's just got a moronic smile that she can't control. It made her Joplin performance look so absurd.

American Idol doesn't need to sell albums; they make all of the money from the show. If they relied on revenue from album sales, the show would've ended after Taylor Hicks won.

Ryan Seacrest makes $15 million a year from the show, which dwarfs that paltry $1 million contract the winner gets. The money is in the show, not the music.

Which, when you think about, the singers actually get a pretty shit deal. They're providing all of the entertainment for what amounts to free, while they pay three judges and a host millions of dollars for sitting on their asses and offering a few sentences of insipid commentary.
