Re: American Idol, Top 9, April 6/7 '11. Songs from Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

It's bad enough that these judges are just praise machines, but what makes it worse for me is that their comments have no sense of continuity to them. It seems like week to week they'll say stuff like:

3 weeks ago: "Now that's the Stefano we've been waiting to see!"
2 weeks ago: "I'm so happy America is finally getting to see the real Stefano! I knew you had it in you!"
This week: "Now that's the Stefano we remember from Hollywood!"

And I thought with the addition of Jimmy Iovine we wouldn't have to put up with worthless guest mentors anymore. Seriously, one of the biggest autotune abusers in the business is giving people vocal advice? And on rock and roll hall of fame week of all things?

Sort of like Tyler and JLo are fake judges.

At least once in a while Randy will point out a few flaws but in a 'nice' way. I wish someone would finally say you stunk. But then we would see 10x more crying than we already do. We need the therapist (R. Lee Ermey) from the Geico commercials.

After some of these performances the last few weeks I just keep thinking maybe my hearing is finally shot as they praise a singer that I thought flat out blew it.

Not the first time for Pia.
They did the same thing to McPhee.
It's like they don't know how to handle dressing a curvy woman.

Jacob reminds me of a stand-up riffing on a gospel singer...or an SNL skit.
(I just don't get it.)

I'm new to Idol, but have the contestants always had back up singers when they perform?

I can't speak about the first few seasons as I didn't watch, but as long as I've been watching, they've had them if they want them.

Almost. It does come from cowboy (rancher) culture, but what it means is someone who is all talk, but no action, or someone who acts like they are more than they really are (e.g., a rancher who tries to act as if they are a major player, but who really has no - or very few - actual cattle).

I took it to mean that Steven originally thought Scotty didn't have the depth as a performer to be successful, but that Scotty proved him wrong.

Wow, I think you just hit the nail right on the head!

That is EXACTLY how he comes across to me as well, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.

Without going into your full explanation (and maybe mistaken) that is what I took out of it as well. I actually heard that term on a doc about rodeo when they where in NYC. A lot of "urban cowboys"

Jacob is in the bottom three. I guess that means America sucks.

Pia got robbed. The judges shouldn't have thrown their save away on that no talent doofus.

Wow, and I agree that the judges wasted their save on Casey. Pia should have made it to the final two.

Except for possibly Scotty McCreery, I see Pia as having the most successful post-Idol career.

I'm on the West Coast, but I watched the results on the East Coast feed....WTF????

Randy, J-Lo and Tyler were fucking idiots for wasting that save on Casey.

haha! sorry but if the Judges were so angry that Pia is gone, they shouldn't have used the save on douche-bag Casey. Now, the sausage fest is in full effect and Nigel better pimp the crap out of Lauren if he wants a female in the finales. I think Scotty is unbeatable at this point. Maybe James could give him some competition.

I think pia had the best voice, but no personality....if you look at the other contestants, they've all developed pretty distinct personalities...couldn't tell you much about pia other than something about her grandfather

If Lauren doesn't make it to the final 2, I'm out. I'll be waiting for Simon's new show in the Fall.

It's not that they wasted the save. They need to realize that if they really think somebody is the best, they cant gush about how everybody is the best after every performance.

Exactly. The show misses Simon (obviously) and dare I say it, Kara.

Tonight's result was a bad joke, but sadly predictable given the demographics of the show's voting block. I will predict that a guy finally will go home (after Haley and Lauren go home in the next two weeks).

And if you're going to create a "judges save" then you have to save it for someone who deserves it. You can't want to use it on Karen or save some goofball Taylor Hicks part deux.
