This show is terrible! And I don't think I'll be able to get enough of it.
The one Italian judge - you know, the mafia wannabe - was splitting my sides with his looks and faux intimidation. I kept expecting him to flash a glock kept in his jacket. So unbelieveably ridiculous.

What's the deal with Graham Elliot Bowles not being allowed to say his last name? I noticed that they left the "Bowles" out of the graphic when he was first introduced, and later when they were all introducing themselves to the contestants, his last name was muted out when he said it.

I liked it. Basically the same as American idol just with cooking. and I would rather watch this then American Idol. For everyone saying how its contrived with the back stories etc, and pulling in the family when he they are of course going say yes. They do the same thing on American Idol and no one seems to complain.

I watched the first episode. It came off to me, like any first episode of a competition shows season. It flies through, and we get alot of tears and emotions from the contestants. We will see, once they have their contestant pool picked, if it levels off.

The show has promise because I like many of the contestants, but I'm already sick of seeing Joe's smug expression after he tastes everything. He might stop me from watching.

Now that the "auditions" are out of the way, I'm hoping for improvement and less mugging of the camera by the judges. The "I'm sorry you can't go back to school" line was one of the most horribly conceived, horribly delivered lines ever.

So Ramsey was questioning whether the 22year old had the confidence and makeup to compete against other cooks, but was perfectly OK with sobbing Boston guy balling his eyes out for a shot to compete the previous week? And do you think any of the other failed cooks would have wanted a 2nd chance like he gave that one woman?
I'm going to give it one more show now that the auditions are over to see if it is about the quality of cooking as opposed to the quality of the back story. Right now it seems like a poor man's Hell's Kitchen (even if that really isn't a competition it at least has entertainment value)

The preview for next week's show said that 15 will be eliminated before the end of the episode, and it seemed like people were being sent home because they didn't know how to dice onions or poach eggs, which I think is ridiculous.
The show was advertised as taking an amateur and making them a Master Chef. It's quite possible that some of the best cooks in the world don't know how to "properly" dice an onion. Maybe they have a different method for getting the job done, and that shouldn't disqualify them from the competition. I know I go postal on onions when I have to dice them, but the job gets done and I cook pretty well.
I thought they were going to TEACH these people things and it looks like they wanted you to know everything when you showed up at the doorstep. The premise of the show is misleading IMO.

Also, it made me confused as to why we even saw these "final" auditions. Some of that sh!t just looked nasty ("beer soup"). How did they get through to this stage with crap like some of the stuff these folks cooked?

I enjoyed Ramsay's line to the contestant's from the first episode: "Imagine the finest meals any of you have ever eaten in your lives. I guarantee you I have had better." Classic Gordon.
But yeah, the first episodes were way too American Food Idol. My family watched and half way through we were mocking the silmilarites with AI more than watching the show.

I'm getting tired of seeing them drag families in to explain why the person should go through. As soon as they say to do that, you already know they're going through.
These auditions were horrid. Bring on the real show... which will prob still be just as bad.

You have to read between the lines to get the anger.
Along the lines of the idiot Italian judge.... this is supposed to be about amateur chefs right? Presumably with no training?
The show flip flops on looking for desire, heart and raw skills that show potential vs looking for a finished product. When the judge says you took too many liberties with a classical dish... I wish the response would have been "I'm an amateur chef with no training, forgive me for not having a fine understanding of classic Italian dishes, what the hell do you expect?"

I'm hoping for improvement in this show once the competition gets going. These audition episodes seemed laborious to get through. And yeah, the Italian judge is coming across as a major douche.

I finally caught up with the first two episodes and it all feels really staged. The judges even have cheesy lines to say to people after they taste their dishes. Hopefully it will actually turn into a cooking show or else I'm out.

Dude, not the best cooking show ever, but passable during the summer when you have Psych and shit else to watch. However, to me, the worst part of this fiasco is this fucking douchebag cocksucking fucker.
So...you have some spoiled I-tai born with a fucking silver spoon in his mouth who fucking hitches his wagon to the star of a great chef with whom he opens tons of restaurants, making him even more successful due only to his lineage, and the motherfucker can't even cook. YOU CAN'T COOK, DOUCHE-BAG!
So, who the fuck is he to sit there and criticize HARSHLY all these people. "You took too many liberties with a classic Italian dish." You were born in America, retard. You're a fake Italian, and you don't have to weigh in on every grazingly-Italian plate that comes in front of you.
And his fucking glare. I'd punch him right in the fucking mouth. Guy irritates the fuck out of me. He acts like Gordon, but guess what? I can only stand....appreciate the fuck out of....Ramsay, because HE IS THE BEST THERE FUCKING IS. You are nobody, you fuck. God, this guy is pissing me the hell off.

A bit of the same BS as the field was cut down to 14 ... about the only thing I truly hated were the untie your apron - joking! moments. I was actually surprised that some of the background story favorites were ditched this episode including the guy with three fingers, the Jamaican woman, and the woman who got a second chance.

Apparently the key to winning the egg challenge was to make a poached egg. Every poached egg got through, and I think the fat judge creamed his pants a bit every time he got to pop one open.
