I thought this was one of the better episodes of the season (which along with last year have been the 2 weakest by far), but again the 2nd halves of these shows have been pretty lame.
I have absolutely no problem with ripped-headlines plots as long as they are done well. I thought the sniper plot was done pretty well.
McCoy has dropped hints here and there about having a daughter and flat out said it earlier in the season. I believe there is a picture of her in his office as well. I believe he was married before we ever see him.

Law & Order 5/21: Back to back to back episodes including the 300th episode
Law & Order reaches an impressive milestone tonight with its 300th episode. It is 2nd longest running drama in television behind only Gunsmoke which ran for 25 seasons. Hopefully the lackluster 12th and current 13th seasons are not a sign of the general direction this once phenominal drama is going.
I am a little confused about the 8 pm episode. The original press release said that NBC would be airing the Law & Order pilot (from 1990) at 8 pm, but now TV Guide on-line shows the 8 pm episode as a repeat of an earlier episode from the season.
There are two new episodes at 9 and 10:
[crossing my fingers]Hopefully, ADA Serena Southerlyn gets hit by a truck in the season finale[/crossing my finger]

I am confused as well. The episode that they say that they are airing now will be Maritime (which is great, because it is the only episode that I missed this season), but even on some promos still on the NBC site, they are saying that they will be running the first episode. Personally, I hope that they go with Maritime, since Everybody's Favorite Bagman was not a great episode, IMO. I watched it recently on DVD, and was underwhelmed. Granted it was at the start of the series, so they had to start somewhere. Also, showing any show from 1990 now on network TV will make it look dated.
I read that even though it is technically L&O's 301th episode tonight, they are calling it their 300th because the Bagman episode was a pilot done for CBS, hence NBC doesn't consider it one of their episodes. Perhaps that is why they changed their mind...

I agree.

If Gunsmoke went 25 seasons, can we add up all the L&O's to make 19 (L&O 13+ SVU 4+ CI 2)... would that count?
I don't think any primetime show today could go past 25 seasons.
... and while I've only seen a few eps of CI, I think that SVU is the best by far...

One Down, One to go
So far this is the best episode ever. The guys look like they are about to drop after this day...I don't think they can take much more of this.
Definitely the funniest L&W's I've ever seen.

Not that big a fan of the original L&O [in fact, I only tuned in since I heard that Lisa Lisa was going to be on], but I have to say that these two eps were damn good.
I'm also glad that, even though these apparently were two "separate" episodes, they took place on the same day, one after the other since these "back to back" epsiode Season Finales have become a pet peeve..

Damn, they need to drop that whole "Ripped From The Headlines!!!" nonsense. It almost never works. All the best episodes over the years have been when their writers actually got busy and thought some new stuff up.

I just finished watching the first episode. I thought it was pretty good. I always like the police part more and I'm glad they expanded their part to almost the entire episode, with the sdded bonus of less Serena
I thought they were going to turn the story with the missing pregnat woman in to Laci Peterson when the husband mentioned he was on his boat. And I to wondered why Green had his hand down the front of his pants in the apartment.
I'll probably get around to watching the 2nd show tommorrow.

The day from hell episode was probably the funniest L&O ep ever. The one-liners just kept on coming. I felt sorry for Briscoe and Green - they needed a nap after those few days.
I think I missed something though - why did the lover kill the jogger? He ranted on about no insurance and not getting the apartment but I missed the motive for killing him.
I didn't even mind the ripped from the headlines gimmick here since toward the end it went in a completely different direction with the parents. Some people should be put under the jail.

Got psyched when I saw Miller's name at the end of the opening credits......

I will not hesitate to say that those were probably the 2 best episodes of the season and probably the last 2 seasons.
The 9 pm episode was great but that shouldn't surprise because even in these subpar days of L&O, the police halves have remained solid - I think Orbach and Martin play very well off each other. The episode was very similar to the Season 4 episode Mayhem. A few nice twists and great zingers from Lenny re: marriage. Of course it helped that Elisabeth Rohm only had about 5 lines in the whole episode.
The 10 pm episode wasn't as good but it was still pretty good. Excellent subtle twist at the end.
Yeah - I thought the same thing. Dobson is definitely one of the greatest Law & Order criminals. Of course, the producers regularly recycle guest stars on this show. Heck, the Oz connection was in full force last night in both episodes.

Again, as I mentioned above, if you liked last night's episode, try to catch the Season 4 episode Mayhem if you can find it on TNT reruns. In that episode, Briscoe and Logan have to deal with multiple murders and a domestic quarrel in a 24-hour period.

What is up with this Elizabeth Rohm hatred around here?? I actually prefer her character to the character of Abby. I found Abby to be quite arrogant and annoying. Serena, she wears her emotions on her sleeve and presents an excellent counterpoint to the new D. A. as they almost never agree!
If there's one fault I can give about the character is that we don't know much about her. She came in litterally the next day for work but over the past 2 years we've learned a little more about her. Seriously folks!! Give her a chance!!

Go to some Law & Order fan forums - the hatred of Rohm is widespread and near universal. She's had 2 years and has shown little improvment if any. That is more than enough of a chance IMO. She cannot handle the playing the counterpoint character - certainly nowhere in the league of Carey Lowell and Jill Hennessey.
