Boy, the director must have given the same instructions to all the lead actors: be somber and low-key. This was just really one-note to me and didn't hold my attention very well.

^^ I thought pacing wise and acting wise it was on par with most episodes of Law and Order. It looks to me that Stoll's character might develop into a wise cracking cop, so hopefully that develops in the coming weeks.
BTW, this episode did very well.
Law & Order: Los Angeles
- 10.638 million viewers
- 6.8/12 HH
- 3.2/10 A18-49
It will probably drop to 8.5 to 9M next week and the demos will probably drop to around 2.5. But, I think NBC should be happy with that being that this show is probably alot cheaper to make than SVU or the original.

Just caught this and liked it more than I thought I would. I like the formula mix up between the law and the order and opposed to the original, where at 8:30 it was lawyers the rest of the way.

I liked this episode a little more than the Pilot. The case was alot more compelling and I like how the time frame is realistic from when the case is being investigated (in this instance July) to when it finally hits trial (late September) Granted, the ending was predictable it was interesting to see that woman was blinded by her rage when she killed the cult member.
The one thing I do like is the rotating DDA's that they are apparently using with Dekker and Lauren in this episode and in the Pilot is was Morales and Evelyn. At least it keeps the perspectives different and fresh week to week.
It's a slow moving procedural focusing more on the Police work and what the lawyers do behind the scenes and so far I've enjoyed it.

Law & Order: Los Angeles -- "Harbor City" -- 10/13/10

By djariya at 2010-10-10
Synopsis:
Spoiler:
Last week was Terrence Howard's turn as the DDA, this week it's back to Alfred Molina.
How many of you have watched both episodes so far? I like it even though it's a little slow and focuses more on the detective work and the work in the Prosecutors office. I like that they have kept the timeline of solving a case realistic compared to most dramas. I like TJ and Rex, although TJ has displayed a little more personality.

I liked last week's. On the other hand since L&O has been on the air for so long, they're basically recycling plots.

I didn't like the Pilot much, but last week's was pretty good. The cast still seems a little too laid back (maybe that's a SoCal thing
). One thing I like is that they're trying to make things more authentic. It always cracked me up seeing Lenny and his partner busting in the doors of murder suspects in their suit and ties. The last episode of L&O: LA they had a team of armored specialists do that.
I'll be sticking with the show.

^^ It probably is an LA thing. I live in SoCal and work in LA and things are pretty laid back for the most part. IMO, it feels like an LA show. I saw an interview with Corey Stoll, who plays TJ and he's actually a native New Yorker and this is the 1st time he's worked in LA on a TV show.

Best L&O episode I've seen in years.
I was fully engaged in the story, and the police detective characters are coming into focus now (I liked their wry banter over surfing and smoking dope). The rich guy was stupid to leave a paper trail of payouts to the rape and beating victims, but I guess rich guys can be stupid too.
Best of all, Alfred Molina was given a lot of room to work. He's a great actor when given that kind of opportunity.

Excellent episode. It gets 2 thumbs up from me.Corey Stoll and Skeet Ulrich are really gelling together as partners and I was really compelled by the case. Yes, I agree that Bill Buchanan was an idiot for leaving such a wide open paper trail.
And those idiots leave the lighter fluid wide open in plain sight so the Police cameras can catch it. Alfred Molina was absolutely dynamic in this episode. I loved his performance in the courtroom. I think he blows Terrence Howard away as the 2nd DDA.

I was happy that the original Law & Order opening was restored. It might seem like a simple thing, but a show with the Law & Order name needs to have that voice at the start.

I like that since it is in LA, they seem to have an endless pool of acting talent to draw from. In 3 episodes, we've had tons of actors that we've already seen in shows.

They seem to have split the old Jack McCoy character into two new characters - Molina, the veteran warrior who will bend the law and apply whatever pressure he needs to in order to get the bad guy, and Howard, the more idealistic crusader. It could make for an interesting dynamic.

Am watching this On Demand at the moment, but I gotta say it's awesome to see a cop show where the fuzz rolls a joint for a cancer patient.

I like this show save for Alfred Molina. I've always thought he is a very wooden actor and this didn't help. Otherwise a solid ep.

If you didn't already hear, Law and Order LA got a full season on Monday

It's only been 4 episodes, but I dig it so far. Hopefully a full season gives them a chance to develop Rex and TJ more.

Re: Law and Order: Los Angeles -- "Sylmar" -- 10/20/10
Really compelling episode tonight. I thought this was Terrence Howard's best performance on the show as the 2nd DDA. It's a little strange how the rotate the DDA and ADA every week. Makes me wonder if Dekker and Morales even know each other. I'd like to see a future episode with them working together.
The opening scene with the bomb exploding killing the 2 small children shocked the shit out of me and was heartbreaking. Shannon Lucio really nailed it playing the Mom, but I wanted to slap her for taking her 2 small kids to her lover's house.
If there was really any flaw to the episode, it was the woman who worked at the flower shop and was also a Muslim terrorist. Her Muslim propaganda video came across as really hokey and her acting was a little weak.
Corey Stoll and Skeet Ulrich are getting better every week as the lead detectives.
I'm glad this got a full season. This and Hawaii Five-O are my favorite new procedurals this season.
Question for those who have watched L&O more regularly.....Do they jump forward in time alot? I noticed this episode took place between November and February, which obviously haven't happened yet. The last 2 episodes took place in the Summer and the trial concluded in the Fall, which is more up to par with the airing schedule of the show.

Re: Law and Order: Los Angeles -- "Sylmar" -- 10/20/10
That mom crying at the beginning was probably the best acting in the history of L&O (I still blame her for those kids dying, though).
The rest seemed uneven. I really didn't understand why it was so important to have the trial in LA. The Feds arent exactly keystone cops. And Terrence Howard on the verge of tears during every scene doesnt give me a lot of faith in his character. I hope Alfred Molina becomes the full time 'Order' part.

at TJ retrieving the grapefruit from the pool. For some reason that just cracked me up. It took a couple of episodes to get used to their wry, laid-back style, but I like the cop characters.I've never been a fan of these "ripped from the headlines" L&O's, so the story fell kind of flat for me. But it was still a pretty good ep, mainly due to the cast.
