Re: Law and Order: Los Angeles gets 13-episode order from NBC

Excited for this, but I want to know how this is going to be. It's different setting from all the other ones which are based in NY, but I'm not sure how much variety they can add to murders and stuff we've already seen on original recipe.

I guess if a LA based spinoff worked for NCIS....

I wasn't going to comment on this, as I love that Law and Order shows New York and is filmed there (I love to try and spot places I've been), but my love for Brotherhood makes me hopeful for this. Blake will hopefully make a great show.

The lead actor for Law and Order: LA is finally announced.

It's Skeet Ulrich from Jericho.

Interesting choice -- I can see him playing the part though. Still plan on tuning in.

Some more cast additions to Law and Order: LA

Alfred Molina (was announced shortly after Ulrich)

Corey Stoll (who will be Ulrich's partner)

and now Terrence Howard.

I don't know who Stoll who, but Howard and Molina along with Ulrich are good additions.

Law & Order: Los Angeles -- New Series -- "Hollywood" -- 09/29/10

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Detectives Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich) and Tomas "TJ" Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll) investigate robberies committed at the homes of young Hollywood stars, ending in a shocking crime executed at the residence of a young starlet and her stage mom in the debut of this procedural crime-drama series set in L.A.

Starring:
Skeet Ulrich
Corey Stoll
Alfred Molina
Terrence Howard

I've never followed a Law & Order franchise regularly except maybe Trial by Jury in it's only season. I live in Southern California and I'm looking forward to this one and it's got a pretty solid cast as well.

The Pilot was just shot about 2 months ago. NBC greenlit this show back in May with no Pilot and no cast. They finished casting this show in early July. Small cast change that was recently announced, Wanda De Jesus filmed 2 episodes as a series regular, but was dropped. Rachel Ticotin was hired to replace her.

Preview for Law and Order LA with interviews with some of the cast. This EPK was obviously produced before they dumped Wanda De Jesus as she is featured prominently in it and is interviewed.

Re: Law & Order: Los Angeles -- New Series -- "Hollywood" -- 09/29/10

It's going to be interesting to hear the new voiceover at the beginning of the show for the first time saying "In Los Angeles..." In fact, I wonder if they'll use the original Law And Order spiel with the only change being Los Angeles for New York City.

Funny bit of trivia, this is at least the 4th time Rachel Ticotin has been cast as a Los Angeles cop. She was Robert Duvall's ex-partner in Falling Down and Ana Lucia's mother/superior officer on Lost. She was also an LA cop in the film Where The Day Takes You. I think in LA that's enough experience to qualify for a shield

the opening is different and the show is terrible. i know it has not aired yet everywhere so all i will say is that is not the same law and order but just in L.A i think the casting is horrible, the acting is horrible. i guess i am just used to the original law and order but this is not a decent replacement

Re: Law & Order: Los Angeles -- New Series -- "Hollywood" -- 09/29/10

I just watched and I liked it enough to keep watching. Loved Corey Stoll's detective Jaruszalski, he's like a slicker no-nonsese LA version of Briscoe (minus the funny cracks, but those could come with time). Ulrich is basically playing a minor variation of Rey Curtis' straight-laced hunk cop. I liked Rex Winters better in his brief cameo on the "SVU" episode before the "LOLA" premiere, where Stoll blew Skeet off the screen in their scenes together. Molina was too moody as the ADA and Regina Hall too meek as his assistant; gotta check out Howard next week for a better opinion. Maybe when all these guys on the 'Law' side start interacting with D.A. Peter Coyote (MIA from this episode) things will start clicking better. Guest-stars were on par with the Gotham version of the show: passable cardboard composites of real-life people with little to no emotion/lives outside their brief couple of on-camera minutes.

The pilot just reeks of a rushed production (no intro sequence, no D.A., predictable plot twists for "L&O" veterans, by-the-book slick L.A. photography and editing from "Sopranos/Mad Men" veteran director Alan Coulter, etc.) but the DNA is still classic, recognizable "L&O" with a new coat of shiny paint. This one gets an automatic watch just for being "L&O" but it could have been so much worse than I expected.

Re: Law & Order: Los Angeles -- New Series -- "Hollywood" -- 09/29/10

I just finished watching also and I liked it. Never regularly followed Law & Order except an episode here and there, but this does feel like a L&O show, just based on the West Coast.

There are so many crime stories on the West coast. Hell, you can just open the LA Times any given day and there will be 4-5 story ideas for the writers of this show. So, I think this incarnation will breathe a little more life into a dying franchise.

There was really nothing groundbreaking about it overall. But, It was a solid well acted and directed procedural. I do like "TJ" and Winters as the leads of the show. I love the look of Corey Stoll's character with the clean shaven head and the big bushy mustache and I think he automatically stood out right away.

Lots of recognizable guest stars:
Shawnee Smith from Saw
Oded Fehr
Jim Beaver from Supernatural
Danielle Panabaker
and I don't know her name, but I could have sworn one of the guest stars was the actress who played Rosseau on Lost.

Okay, can someone explain the twist at the end, which lost me. The mother was sleeping with one of the burglars and promised to help out his career before she killed him. I didn't quite get how that other actor came into the mix. He told TJ and Rex that the mother promised him a date with her daughter and then she freaked out to Molina's character when he threatened to reveal him as a witness. What did that actor have to do with the picture?

Felt bad for Wanda De Jesus. As I mentioned in my OP, she was dropped from the show, but I saw her name in the opening credits and she got 1 thankless scene (10 second walkthrough) They must have edited out the rest with her. Hopefully they do a good job introducing Ticotin's character.

in exchange for 400k, the mother encouraged the daughter to date the reality star. she didnt want her daughter to find this out so she agreed to plead guilty.

Re: Law & Order: Los Angeles -- New Series -- "Hollywood" -- 09/29/10

eh, it was ok I guess. I've never been a huge fan of the Law and Order series anyways but this was "ok" the same way the others ones are to me.. I know that's not a ringing endorsement or anything but at least it was not horrible.

at the start I kept waiting for the Detective rocking the 70's porno mustache to crack some Dan Stark in The Good Guys sort of jokes about it.. When that did not happen I was just -oh ok, I guess that's meant to be a look he is going for or something-..

I tune in again if the preview for the case seems interesting or if the guest star is someone I want to see, same as do/did for the other Law and Order shows..

If you took a drink every time they said, "Here we are in crazy Hollywood" you would have passed out in the first half hour. Still, it was a fun reworking of some recent events in crazy Hollywood.

SVU did a decent job of introducing Skeet's character

no voice over or open credit scene?
