Pretty good episode again. Not much of the story lines advanced, but it was fun seeing all the characters during Mardi Gras. I liked Davis and Annie's trip in particular.

Yeah that is my only grip is that the storylines aren't advancing. LaDonna just needs to go ahead and tell her mom about Daymo.I keep thinking Creighton(sp?), Goodman's character is going to off himself. The guy just looks depressed way too much, he probably won't but just a thought. Annie and Sonny story needs to be wrapped up. I am getting pretty frustrated with that storyline. Where is it going? I still enjoy the show.

Was good to see these characters enjoy themselves in this episode (well, most of them at least).

If you're watching this show for the plot, you're missing the point.

It's about emotion and lyricism. It's a poem.

I expect more plot for something that I have to invest 50 minutes per episode at 10 episodes. That's over 8 hours of little plot. Not to mention next season if they continue to concentrate on "emotion, lyricism and poetry".

This really would work better as a film or short mini-series. It has the feel of a John Sayles film (which is good) but at least with Sayles' films they end after 2 or 2.5 hours and provides more plot.

But it's all about how fleshed out the world is. All of these fantastic character moments might seem unnecessary, but the point is that when things do happen it will affect you that much more since you understand who these people are. I actually like how they're concentrating on the characters more than the story, at least for now. I'll concede that multiple seasons of that might get a little tiresome, but I'll happily take a season of seeing these characters at their highest and lowest points if it means their story lines down the road will mean something more to me.

I'm not sure how plot-heavy the show will ever get, but I'm enjoying it immensely right now.

I agree, I like the characters (Sonny and Davis are dbags) and the music enough, that I really don't care if much happens in an episode.

Treme -- "Wish Someone Would Care" -- 6/13/10

A few days late but I didn't see a thread and hoped someone wanted to discuss this. Creighton's day was absolutely heartbreaking...I kinda felt something was up when I realized he was doing/visiting all of his favorite things. Amazing to see the mix of sadness, joy and relief.

It will be interesting to see where the Annie/Sonny story goes.

I'm sad that there is only one more episode left but I'm already looking forward to next season and seeing where the stories go.

The episode title "Wish Someone Would Care" seems fitting for the general lack of interest for this show on this forum.

We saw Creighton's end coming starting the last episode (someone even mentioned it in the last thread). It was more obvious with his goodbye to his daughter as she went to school, and the little adventures of fun he had throughout the day said everything. He went from depression to happiness - which many people who are about to commit suicide do.

I assumed on episode #1 that John Goodman wouldn't be around long since he was a major character on the show and his name doesn't even appear in the opening credits.

I really liked how they handled Creighton's suicide... from the beginning of the day right to his off-screen death. Very classy and interesting. For me, this was the best part of the whole season so far.

The Annie/Sonny story was annoying all season long. Glad they finally broke up because there wasnt much happening with them together anyways.

Unfortunately, with only 1 episode left - these changes are probably too little, too late for me.

A 2nd Pelecanos scripted episode in one season. Nice.

Creighton's end was a pretty obvious Spalding Gray allusion.

Antoine Baptiste's baby drinking sauce.

I sure hope Annie doesn't go from one loser to another loser, (I'm looking at you Zahn)!

Someone needs to tell India Ennenga to quit grinning like a fool through the entire show.

I am still loving this show, though!

I don't think they need to cast playboy models for the female roles or anything, but Antoine's girlfriend (wife?) that he's living with... my god, she's just fugly. I cringe everytime I see her on the screen. I guess the Antoine character would hit just about anyone.

That's my guess, is that they hooked up and she got pregnant. But I like that this show and The Wire aren't all attractive people. It makes it a little more real.

I thought this was a good episode. I enjoyed the extended party scenes, and all the music was really solid. Annie can play!

John Goodman's suicide came out of nowhere though. He's been depressed, but suicidal seems like a bit of a stretch.

I agree! I finally got around to watching the latest episode last night and was discussing with my husband afterward and we both thought the suicide didn't ring true. He just didn't come off as suicidal, depressed yes, but not to the extent that he would choose to kill himself over his wife and child.

Of course suicides happen everyday that leave people scratching their heads as to the reasons why, but in the confines of the show it didn't work for me. It will be interesting to see how the family deals with the aftermath...

In semi-related news, Goodman has lost ~100 pounds and looks great.

I just got back from vacation yesterday so I just watched it tonight.

Creighton's goodbye to his daughter was the moment that you knew he was going to kill himself, too bad he didn't take Sonny with him.

This season went by way too fast. Thanks for the heads-up on the run-time.

Last week's episode hit me kind of hard. I marathon-ed all the episodes so I was feeling a connection to the characters, usually I don't feel deaths this soon in a series. It might also have something to do with the fact that Goodman really was the best thing about the series.

Sad to see the season end so soon. IMHO, the best thing on TV.

Forgive me, I haven't watched this too much this season. Is the finale supposed to be a prequel or flashback?

Nevermind. Got it.

What an episode. This was a great finale. Left some things opened and closed some things. I still want to know what happened with Daymo. I guess we may never know.
