Lost -- "Sundown" -- 03.02.10

Re: Lost -- "Sundown" -- 03.02.10
[spoonfed]I'm one of the ones who brought it up in a previous thread and I still think it needs to be explained. While it's entirely possible that the Others tracked down Locke's dad, it was mighty convenient the way it played out. None of the other "candidates" had loved ones kidnapped to the island just to produce right when it might have the most profound impact [/spoonfed]

No offense but why does this keep getting asked(I've seen multiple people mention the same thing)? The others have extensive files on all the castaways and they owned a submarine to go to the mainland(wherever that may be). You hear hoofbeats think horse, not zebra. They know about Cooper & Locke's kidney debacle so they go and kidnap him and lock him up until John Locke comes a knockin'.

They probably grabbed Locke's Dad a while ago (after-crash) and just kept him on the island somewhere as per Jacob's instructions (which no one ever understood anyway).

Exactly. Remember, he served as a test to see if Locke would actually kill his father to see if he was fit to lead the others. Ben killed his father and became leader. Just sounds like a major loyalty initiation test, albeit a bizarre one. I wonder if Widmore killed his own father?

the dog is hanging out with Rose and Bernard...
and some don't pay attention to Lost... for the millionth time the "magic box" was a metaphor... I should post a screencap of Ben's face when dumb Joh Locke asked him was that the black box when they were dumping metal objects in the orchid station.
Ben told Richard to bring the man from Tallahasee, while he was over in the US doing what they do. Lockes daddy later on said that he was driving and got snatched up and blindfolded and shit next thing he knows he's there
/"box questions"
and Andy i liked the captioning on your vid, especially Kates

We can, from careful observation, extrapolate that Ben was lying to John about the "magic box" in order fuck around with him and that he just had his people abduct Cooper, but we don't necessarily know that because it hasn't been shown to us.
There are lots of things that we can infer, like that, at some point, someone used a polar bear to turn the donkey wheel (from the polar skull Charlotte found in the desert). Presumably it was either the DI, who did it after discovering the wheel, or the Others who appropriated the polar bears after the purge. If it was the DI who used the bears, then we have to wonder if a human didn't try to turn the wheel and wound up teleported away. Makes me wonder just how many times the island has been moved...

I think everybody gets that it's a metaphor. Nobody is expecting a literal magical box here. But what I think needs to be explained is the seemingly magical nature that Other's seem to possess. I don't buy that they get all of their intimate knowledge from Patchy's ISDN connection. And since Ben's hasn't been getting his intel from Jacob, what is it's source?

Juliet delivered a Dharma baby without problems before The Incident. After it, that's when babies couldn't be conceived, carried, and born all on-island.
We know that there is now an alternate timeline, and it's likely The Incident is what caused this alternate timeline. In this timeline, we see people on the Oceanic flight and others from the Island, but in the regular world. It's been implied that this reality and the original one are tied somehow, with certain people from one tied to the other, and possibly even becoming aware of it (like Juliet's last words).
Since the timelines are tied, everyone that exists in one has to exist in the other. Thus, no baby can be conceived, carried, and born all on-island because, in the alternate timeline, the Island no longer exists (at least as habitable to humans) for these babies to be conceived, carried, and born on. To resolve the paradox, the babies die before being born.
This is why Aaron was born ok, because he was conceived off-island. This is why Sun's kid was born ok, because she was born off-island.

Re: Lost -- "Sundown" -- 03.02.10
the incident probably caused alot of things
i don't recall smokey being around till Rousseau '88
we accepted that the island heals people, increases sperm count, moves through time, and has an ancient wheel that teleports people and polar bears to a tunisian desert when turned... so we can also accept that the island likes to rot out preggers insides, abort babies, and kill the mothers.

I dont buy that Mikhail got the Others 'all' the files via the Flame station. For a long time I wondered how Juliet knew Sawyer killed the guy before getting on 815, and the only thing that makes sense is that Jacob watched it via the Lighthouse and then passed the file to the Others. The show has never shown that James was a wanted fugitive for murdering the guy and you think it would have come up by now.

1.) The MiB is now confirmed to be the smoke monster, and it's fairly obvious he's been there a very long long time.
2.) Remember, the fence was designed to keep out the island's "abundant and diverse wildlife"!
3.) Richard's statement, "That fence might keep other things out but not us." Dead Giveaway!

I don't think this was as plain as day on the show. And I read these threads on a hit and miss basis. I don't recall ever reading any of the million times in the past this was pointed out. Sorry I don't fixate on every word in these threads on the show and ask questions that have been covered.

Seriously though, reviewing the info on the pregnancy issue, it seems like the death of the mothers may just be a side-effect of the termination of the baby via an overactive immune system:

My theory on why women can't get pregnant: The Incident caused it.

Speaking of which. The files had to have come from Jacob, probably passed down through the Temple or directly to Richard. (Remember Richard passing Sawyer's file down in S3 so Locke could use James to kill Cooper?)

just saying that we never seen a 'pillar of black smoke' during 'time periods' before rousseau, such as 1954, 1974, 1977
just saying...
he might not have been in gas form then

So, when do you think the incident will be explained or shown?
In the last episode? 2 hour series finale?
Or can they explain it in the middle of the season and continue the story?
