Creators of 'Lost' say they won't tie up all those loose ends

That's in reference to this part of the Washington Post article: "Many of the questions posed during the run of "Lost" that have been keeping you up at night are never going to be answered on the show but will instead be tossed on the compost heap like an old turnip, because, the writers say, they have run out of time. Re: Lost -- "Sundown" -- 03.02.10
Alright, I'm officially on board with the theory that the MiB is using some of the candidates (Claire, Sayid) for his own agenda (to go home) and in exchange he will send them back to 2004 w/o the plane crashing (as we've been seeing).
MiB told Claire that she will definitely be with her child. Not necessarily at the Temple. Could easily mean back in 2004 raising him herself.
MiB told Sayid basically the woman that died in his arms would came back to him. If what we're seeing in 2004 is the result of that then I guess he should've been more specific with his wish ("Doh! Wish I had a Monkey's Paw").
Jacob already knows everything about the candidates so he doesn't need to ask them what they want. Jack wants a son. Hugo wants to be the luckiest guy in the world. Sawyer wants Juliet. Sun & Jin just want to be together. Kate just wants to be free.
I betcha one of the last things we'll see is Sawyer at home with Juliet in 2004 because he beat everyone and got outta there.

Re: Lost -- "Sundown" -- 03.02.10
So am I the only one who is thinking the "smoke monster" could actually turn out to be the good side of the island?
Too often we equate black with evil and killing with evil. After all, we are spoon fed those concepts in media all our lives.
But there are a few clues that lead me to believe that the "Smoke monster" is actually the good power here. The first is from the last season when Ben is complaining that Richard marches Locke to Jacob like he is Moses. Making a reference to the Old Testament is key here... Not only did God and Satan fight over the rights to the soul of Moses (as Jacob and the "Smoke Monster" are fighting over the souls of the people on the island) but in the Old Testament God kicks some major pagan ass. Wiping out cities in brimstone and fire, anyone? The Old Testament God is not the "Buddy Jesus" we've been led to believe exists.
I think it sealed it to me in this past episode that the MIB is more the "God" of the island that Jacob ever was. Once Dogen is out of the way MIB can enter in the temple and kill people. In the Old Testament plan for the temple it was the high priest that was the buffer between God and the people who visited the temple. And if it wasn't for the buffer of the high priest the raw presences of God would kill the people who were visiting the temple.
Jacob is seen being white. The Bible talks about how Satan will appear as an angel of light. Satan doesn't come off as Rob Zombie type monsters. He's slick...he's a wolf in sheep's clothing. I believe Jacob was the wolf in sheep's clothing. I think he was evil disguised as an angel of light.
And while on that topic...the Bible talks about God casting Satan into the pit of fire. Jacob was cast into the pit of fire.
Clearly the "Smoke Monster" is not the evil force here. He's acting in the capacity of the Old Testament God...he's purging people who do not believe and practice evil against the island.

Why would they know anything? Clearly no one tells anyone anything on that island.

i think them sounding the alarms at the temple and shooting flares and shit was just to alert everyone that Smokey was coming...
that's why they start spreading the ashes
Dogen didn't tell the templeites
that was the first time they heard about jacob's death

Re: Lost -- "Sundown" -- 03.02.10
Well, I read "most" of these posts.. so I hope I'm not regurgitating someone else's thoughts here.
I was under the impression that a "god" could not kill a "god". That's why Flock needed Ben (a mortal) to kill Jacob.
My thoughts are, when they drown Sayid, he was reborn as a "god". When he attempted to kill Flocke, he was unsuccessful, because one "god" cannot kill another. Sayid just doesn't understand his transformation yet. The question is, what side is Sayid on?
Any thoughts?

I don't think that Sayid is a good guy if that's what you're asking. Keep in mind that I'm not saying that Flocke is necessarily the bad guy here, he could easily just be using Sayid's talents to accomplish things that he can't (or can't yet?). Same argument goes for Claire, I think Kate's in trouble LOL.
I guess your "god" argument is as good as anybody else's, it could have something to do with being touched in such a way. Be it by that pool or some other method, maybe they do share something in common.

Not as rabid as some, so I apologize in advance for asking a potentially newbie question but...
Anybody know what the hell happened to Desmond? I realize he disappeared midway through the NC losties plane ride, but he could still figure into the grand finale in some fashion I would imagine.
I'm vaguely aware there are some legal hurdles Henry Ian Cusick is facing, perhaps his storyline is
finished?

Re: Lost -- "Sundown" -- 03.02.10
An interesting thought, based on the bible conspiracy theory:
Jacob = Evil
Flocke = Good
Dead Jacob transfered into Sayid through "dirty" pool water.
Sayid = Evil
This would also explain why Dogen could see that he was being taken over by a blackness. Sayid hasn't "completed" his transformation into an evil deity, but he's on his way.
I haven't committed myself to either theory yet, but both possibilities take the show down two very interesting paths.
For those who don't like this season, I'm not sure what makes this one any different than the others. Each 1 answer is tied with 2 more questions. At least we know a LOT more now, than we did before, but knowing that the end is near (12 hours), I'm thinking this is the best season yet.

Personally, I'm fine with the way we left them last season. As far as I'm concerned they were thrown back in the past during the Incident and lived their lives on the island together in bliss, dying at the caves as Adam and Eve.

Re: Lost -- "Sundown" -- 03.02.10
I'm a Lost-lover from S01 - and I'm enjoying the ride this season - but at times I regret the "ageless magical entities" storyline that now seems to be the focus of the show's entire existence. That just makes it easy to explain away just about anything. "You see, Jacob has this magic mirror..." Not that there's anything wrong with fantasy elements, but I had really hoped the series would fixate more on Dharma and the Hansos.
I'll admit I liked the show better when the mythology was more Dharma/Hanso/Others-centric, and less on magic lighthouses and ancient smoke creatures that are apparently not nanotechnology.
With that said, I still enjoy the show. I still have faith in Lindelof/Cuse, and that they won't Soprano us come the finale in May.
I had just hoped the payoff was going to go in a different direction than it appears to be at present.
But I can't think of too many other shows that have generated such intense discussion and theorizing amongst fans for so long. And you have to like that.
