CBS just wants a show on the air until Corden starts in March.

The only tone and direction CBS is interested in until March is having something on TV that people might watch, and the guest hosts will generate some interest.

Yeah, next week is late night version of the Talk. I wouldn't put too much stock in what's going on now. I'll probably give Corden a chance in March.

Isn't Drew's sidekick the announcer on his run on the Price is Right?

Like I've said I get that it may not be how the final show is when Corden starts, but I do think that the format of the show at the moment is more than likely an indication on the direction CBS wants it to go from now on.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

Watched Drew's first episode and definitely wasn't impressed, I definitely won't be watching daily, but will check it out it here's a guest and/or guest host I'm interested in seeing, and will be checking out Corden's first show.
One thing that was particularly disappointing was Drew not referencing Craig in any way, especially considering they're friends. It's not like I expect him to say a bunch, but I thought at least for his first episode, he would make some kind of reference to Craig's 10 years on the show.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

I am a huge Drew Carey fan, and I wish he was taking over the fulltime slot. I know his humor isn't for everyone, but he is likeable but always crass too in a funny way. Plus he is not very political (but he is a conservative), so I don't have to worry about him pulling a Letterman or Jon Stewart and worry about them injecting their ideology in their monologue or interviews every show.

The rest of the late night crowd you could take em or leave em as Carey would be the only show I would DVR. But I'm pretty sure he is just hosting this week?

Craig Ferguson’s Syndicated Talk Show Plans With Tribune Media Unraveling
http://www.deadline.com/2015/01/crai...ne-1201344622/
Craig Ferguson’s plans to do a syndicated half-hour first-run comedy/talk show with Tribune Media appear to have unraveled. The recently exited CBS Late Late Show host planned to take his robot skeleton sidekick Geoff Peterson with him, along with Geoff’s voice Josh Robert Thompson, Ferguson’s pantomime horse Secretariat, and longtime showrunner Michael Naidus. Word of the new show, targeted for a fall ’16 launch, surfaced as early as August and an announcement had been expected since, but never materialized. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the deal fell apart over station clearances in non-Tribune markets, among other issues; one party said Tribune and Sinclair could not come to terms on the numbers. Tribune Media has a 42-station network, including the country’s Top 3 markets. Interested parties had hoped the show could become a companion to Ferguson’s syndicated game show Celebrity Name Game, on which Tribune is in bed with Debmar-Mercury.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

Honestly in my opinion Craig should just do an online based show. He could do whatever he wants and get away with it. Plus his fanbase is a young enough demographic where they'll embrace him being on a streaming type of service or whatever and I think he could make it work. If not I think he'll figure something else out eventually.

Drew's show was exactly what anyone would expect from a comedian guest hosting a talk show for a week. Monologue and guest interviews.

Next week is a late night version of The Talk.

Currently, The Late Late Show has no format.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

All I'm saying is I'll in no way whatsoever be surprised if something like Drew is doing this week becomes normal. Frankly I'm surprised that CBS let Craig do things the way he did for ten years. I just think the new direction will be much more typical late night show than anything original like Craig's show. I've said it over and over that when Corden takes over some things are likely to change but I think that in general this is close to what we're going to get. I could be wrong but I doubt it. I'm sure whoever's in charge of late night at CBS is looking at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and probably to a lesser extent Late Night with Seth Meyers and wants a show that's more "safe" and that will appeal to a larger audience. That's why I won't be surprised whatsoever if The Late Late Show with James Corden will be similar to what's currently on as it has safe written all over it.

I know what you are saying, and you keep saying it over and over, but for no reason.

CBS let Craig Ferguson do whatever he wanted. And it is not exactly like CF was bum-rushed off the network.

All you know is who the new host is. Nobody knows what kind of host he will be or what kind of show it will be.

Somehow you've decided that because CBS wouldn't promote CF to 11:30, or throw a fortune at him to keep him at 12:30, that CBS must be the enemies of creativity who want to force something bland down America's throats.

There are dozens of comics who are pretty well known to the general public who would have jumped at the chance to host "just another talk show" on CBS. CBS didn't hire any of them. They hired some guy from the UK that no American has ever heard of. Who knows what he will do, just like nobody could have predicted what some unknown Scotsman would do with the show.

You're so eager to think the worst, and you are entitled to your opinion, but your opinion is just that. There's no evidence to support any of what you claim to see in your crystal ball.

I never once have said anything like this but okay? Craig left on his own terms there's no debate there. He's even said that he didn't want Dave's spot. That's never been up for debate.

I'm not eager to think the worst necessarily I'm just saying I won't be surprised if what I'm saying ends up being the truth. They want to be on top again or at least try to be and the way to do that is to be more mainstream friendly.

Watched Gaffigan's first show, and IMO it was much better than Carey's. He basically used the hour as a plug for his upcoming show

I've watched him a bit and he's better than Carey I agree but meh. I wouldn't watch him all the time if he was hosting permanently. I definitely miss Craig and Geoff being on air on a nightly basis.

Yes. It kind of reminded me of the old Tom Snyder, but more Regis-ey.

Liked the Marty Short and Alan Alda interviews. Does Susan Sarandon bring that dog everywhere now.

Whitney Cummings is hosting Wed and Thur. Like her but I didn't really like her E! show.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

Regis hosting wasn't bad but it wasn't The Late Late Show really. It felt a lot like watching The Charlie Rose Show (which he was one of the guests last night actually). Also Craig signed a deal with Lionsgate Television, sounds like he has more than one project lined up. Should be interesting to see what he does next.

Craig Ferguson Sets Overall Deal with Lionsgate Television (EXCLUSIVE)

What’s in store for Craig Ferguson now that he’s signed off of CBS’ “The Late Late Show?” For starters, he intends to step up production activity as his Green Mountain West production banner under an overall deal inked with Lionsgate Television.

Pact calls for Green Mountain to develop scripted and unscripted series for the studio. Green Mountain had been based at CBS, where it fielded a range of development projects. Ferguson’s “Late Late Show” producer Michael Naidus will work with the company on projects, along with Green Mountain prexy Phil Cottone. Ferguson may wind up writing, directing or acting in various projects.

“Craig is one of the most creative minds in comedy, and we’re extremely proud that he’s chosen Lionsgate as his home for this next chapter in his remarkable career,” said Lionsgate TV Group chairman Kevin Beggs. “We’re looking forward to creating great television together.”

Ferguson’s overall deal with Lionsgate has been in the works even as he pursued a deal for a syndicated talkshow with Tribune Broadcasting and Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury distribution unit. Tribune’s major-market stations committed to an early-evening half-hour hosted by Ferguson, but the plan for a national launch in the fall was tabled earlier this month amid resistance from other crucial station owners including the Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Debmar-Mercury also distribs the syndicated gameshow “Celebrity Name Game,” which Ferguson hosts. The FremantleMedia North America strip is in the midst of its first season and has been renewed for a sophomore round in 2015-16.

Ferguson, repped by WME, wrapped his 10-year run in CBS’ post-“David Letterman” slot in December, saying he was ready to try something new. The Scottish-born comedian is a multihyphenate whose credits include the novel “Between the Bridge and the River,” the memoir “American on Purpose” and several screenplays. He’s also been a regular on the comedy tour circuit and toplined comedy specials for Comedy Central, Epix and, most recently, Netflix with 2013’s “I’m Here to Help.”

“I’m delighted that Lionsgate is now so successful that they can even add me to their otherwise prestigious cavalcade of stars without significantly damaging their brand,” Ferguson said.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

One thing I'm finding interesting is that it seems these guest hosts can do literally whatever they want. They don't need to talk about current events or have people on to plug things, everyone is just having on whoever they want (or, for Regis during the snowstorm, whoever he could get). This past week has been weird with no audience. Is that because they're getting the other set ready for Corden?

Speaking of which, did anyone see Regis interview Letterman? Letterman was saying about why isn't 'the tubby kid' here, why did he need months to get ready. It didn't seem like he was joking.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread

And yet Colbert is getting how many months after Letterman leaves before starting? 4? 5? Seemed awfully shortsighted and hypocritical if he wasn't joking. He did say he had Corden on the show as well. I bet there was more joke in there than it seemed.

I just don't know what they are expecting Corden to do during the months between gears shifting and Colbert coming on. It seems like by the time Colbert's show starts, we'll have a different Late Late show host. And I wouldn't be surprised one bit.

I laughed a whole lot at Adam Pally and Ben Schwartz hosting Friday's episode.
