Not a joke: Craig won a Peabody award.

As this fascinating, often funny interview attests, the Scottish-born Ferguson has made late-night television safe again for ideas.

Just watched the Jonathan Dancy interview from last night (and yes, he did wear the leather pants). Though Dancy was obviously extremely nervous, it was interesting and certainly not something you would normally see discussed on humor talk show.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread
I forgot all about that upcoming interview, but just found it on youtube. Very fascinating and funny. As someone who took more than his fair share of philosophy courses in college, I particularly enjoyed it. It's so rare to see people just discussing ideas for the sake of ideas.
As a purely supererogatory action, I'll embed a copy here for others:

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread
Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like Dancy had it in his head going in that Ferguson was going to be just a showbiz twit out to insert inane jokes throughout the discussion. He never seemed to regard any of Ferguson's sincere attempts to understand ethical particularism seriously, and also never really made much of an effort to explain what it is; only to find faults in Ferguson's efforts to get a grasp on the subject.

Yeah, Dancy was a complete twit during the whole interview in my opinion. All he did was doublespeak, and when Ferguson asked legitimate question, he'd just imply the question was idiotic and beneath him. I'd love to see another philosopher on that would legitimately answer questions, not someone who thought the whole thing was beneath him.

For instance, any time Ferguson employed the word, "definition," his efforts at framing the discussion in a way in which he--and more likely, his audience--could follow, he was dismissed with remarks about how definitions are irrelevant. Dancy himself, however, slipped in at least one or two definitions of his own in the second half of the interview on his own behalf!

I think we should add Joss Stone to the unofficial list of Craig Ferguson regulars

Speaking of...unless it gets pushed back again Kristen Bell is on Monday for the debut of Geoff Peterson and East/Central DVR users need to PAD at least an hour b/c of the NCAA tournament.

Re: The Craig Ferguson Appreciation Thread
Just caught up on the weekly Craig.
The Dancy interview failed pretty miserably. It could have been really wonderful, but Dancy was rather off-putting. If he is indeed asked back, they need to tell him to tone down the "philospher" attitude and work with Craig. To someone who was willing to work, Craig could have indeed held his own and led to another fairly ground-breaking segment, at least for the current late night climate. (This, of course, based on little-no factual information, just opinions of what I remember watching a decade ago when I used to watch Leno all the time.)
As no one mentioned it, I guess I'll assume I'm in the minority of those who were absolutely turned off by Robin Williams. I TRIED to give the segment a shot, but I ended up fast forwarding through it because it was so painful. (I've never really been a fan of any of his work. The more exposure he's gotten, the worse I seem to not be able to stand him.) (I remember people bagging on Tom Arnold years ago when he was on TBDSSP years ago (even his co-hosts), but Williams doesn't seem too far behind that.)
The Joss Stone segment was really good. Nice capper to the week.

Yeah Joss Stone was a fun. Also she was barefoot...very sexy
Normally I RUN FOR THE HILLS if i hear Robin Williams is going to be a guest anywhere. But I have to say that for some reason he seemed less annoying on Craig's show.

The first segment he mainly did the same jokes he did on Letterman which was a little tedious. The second segment where he and Craig played off each other was the funniest I've found Robin Williams in nearly 20 years.

I think that's a credit to Ferguson's personality and style. Most talk show hosts just sit back and let Robin go, so he feels obligated to put on a show. Ferguson engaged him in REAL conversation and he was able to be funny without feeling like he had to carry the whole thing and be completely over-the-top. He was OK on Letterman, too; Letterman would engage him and they would have a good conversation, at times.

Ok then that must be why I thought it was ok. I missed the 1st part in my attempt to avoid Robin.

You know why most hosts do that? Because Johnny Carson did that and this was why so many felt that he was The King. All the old time comics and guests will tell you that JC would let just them do their thing and not try to overshadow them.
