Can someone explain why Walt can't be considered the 6th person. I haven't seen or read anything that would rule him out.

whotony 03-21-08 04:28 PM

cuse and lindleof said it in the podcast that was release earlier today.
the six shown in the end promo are the O6.

i am 100% certain aaron is one of the O6.

Michael and Walt were already off the island. Maybe they both have new identities. But I think the promo clearly shows the oceanic 6. It shows a montage of 6 people from their flash forwards. Rewatch the promo and look at the montage starting with Jack and ending with Kate. Clearly they are flash-forward pics and not island pics.

As for Michael's island time being in sync with the real world, I wonder if the heading you're on when you traverse the portal determines the time you pop out at the other end? Michael left on a heading of 325 whereas the freighter people are on a heading of 305.

The island being able to suppress the firing of a fully loaded gun in Manhattan has moved this show from the realm of the strange but possible to the realm of la-la fairy magic. I can buy the island controlling the world within its domain but for this control to extend to the outside world? I've got to say that I'm really disappointed; I thought these guys had more creativity than this. Oh well...

Re: Alex's pregnancy: I think the fear of Alex being pregnant is the reason Ben sent them off. He saw Carl's hand on Alex and worried that they might be getting too friendly. He may not know she's pregnant, and so he sent them off so Carl could be offed. I think it was the Others, not the freighter people.

I suppose you could be right about Walt having a different identity. I don't think getting off the island "earlier" than the others would be reason enough not to include Walt in the Oceanic 6. Walt was on the passenger manifest, and is alive and back home. He would still be grouped into the limited number of survivors unless something like the identity change is true.

I'm pretty sure Michael's mother (walt's grandmother) was complaining that she couldn't tell anyone about them and thats why he had to change his name. So nobody knows about them.

Jimmy James 03-21-08 05:18 PM

Why would she feel compelled to keep Walt's identity a secret once Michael is (seemingly) dead as I'm speculating he would be and after survivors have been located? That doesn't make much sense.

That would raise some pretty big questions for the general public, such as how did Michael and Walt make it off the island before the O6? Or why did they travel across the country to Manhattan instead of contacting any authorities or news outlets when they returned?

Yeah, and I doubt if Ben/Whidmore/Dharma would just leave Walt and his grandma be...they'd be making sure with friendly and not-so-friendly reminders that they keep their mouths shut.

Jimmy James 03-21-08 05:34 PM

I think it would have to be a carrot to keep Walt hidden, not a stick. We have seen that the O6 have some pretty sweet perks. If somebody is threatening you, I think you have to go to the authorities (unless we're in one of those tv worlds where the government is as in on it as anybody, but they haven't established that yet).

Best part of the ep was Sayid turning Michael into the Captain.

That and the ensuing deaths of certain castmembers.

Deadman31 03-21-08 08:22 PM

God, I hate Michael so much. He is such a spineless whiny little maggot. I hope they kill him off fast. Worst episode of the season.

Pretty funny how during the "Previously on Lost" segment at the beginning, the first thing they show is Michael yelling "They took my boy!!!"

Because Ben/Jacob want him for his powers. Why would he come forward knowing people are looking for him?

Glad you can be. They also said pretty definitively that Aaron wasn't one of the six a couple podcasts back. I think you have to take pretty much anything said on the podcast with a grain of salt.

whotony 03-21-08 09:37 PM

i never heard that.
which podcast was it?

If it's Ben, he tracked down Michael pretty well. I really rather doubt that he'd be unable to figure out the oh so complex with Michael's mother deception. Actually, I'd say that goes for just about anybody looking for him.

Exactly!

All these people that claim to be 100% sure of anything make me laugh.

Many, many things the producers have said in various interviews turned out to be either completely false or incredibly tortured truths.

 I don't remember. I would assume the one after Kate's episode aired.

 Good point.

All D&L said on 2-15 podcast was that the remaining two would be "tricky". In other words, they weren't telling.

They also said the identities would not be an end of season mystery, it would be cleared up soon.

All these things you mention happened on the island where things "magical" have been a given almost from day one. Even Desmond's time-travel experience, although it technically occurs off-island, is due to the act of leaving the island. But Michael's experience is the first time we've seen something "magical" occur in a totally detached off-island location. (With the possible exception of the island "luring" specific passengers onto Oceanic 815 although IMO it's still not clear if this was due to island manipulation or just a vast coincidence.)

In any event, Tom made it quite clear that the island has the ability to control off-island events. But if the island has this kind of power, it makes you wonder what the hell the point of Lost is. Why doesn't the island just destroy all of its enemies, whomever and whatever they might be, and be done with it? Widmore a problem? Blow up his plane. Ben getting uppity? Squish him under a rock. If you're this all-powerful magical entity, nothing is beyond your capability or outside your reach. Sure, this would probably obviate the need for the last two seasons of Lost but this is the Pandora's box that the writers have now opened.

DD, you seem like a new guy in these LOST threads, so I'll let others in here tell you that if *I* am willing to recognize Aaron as one of the O6, and that the producers have made that clear, on screen, then you can pretty much bank on it, because there isn't a guy in this thread more against the Aaron in O6 than I was.

He is. It's unfortunate and stupid, but he is.

That's one person. His name is Damon Lindelof. The other producer is Carlton Cuse.

For someone who supposedly is 100% sure about things on this show, odd that you wouldn't know that.
