Forget Catherine Zeta Jones, the BBC's signature time travelling series has finally found its companion: former "Bionic Woman" star Michelle Ryan.

At least that's what the latest reports are.

Starring alongside the youngest Doctor in the show's history, Ryan will provide the human element to the series and serve as the entry point for the "Doctor Who" audience. No official announcement has come from the BBC, however the tabloid newspaper claims that confirmation is imminent.

"Michelle's been in secret talks with BBC bosses," a source told the Sunday Mirror. "They are likely to announce her as Doctor Who's new assistant very soon. She is perfect for the role. She is good looking and the right age to star alongside Matt. Everyone agrees they look great together and reckon fans will think they're the perfect team, too."

Although she has a handful of genre roles to her name (including "Bionic Woman" and the new BBC family drama, "Merlin") is was the soap series "EastEnders" that initially launched her career.

"The BBC launched Michelle's acting career as Zoe Slater in 'EastEnders' and she will be thrilled to be back with them in such a legendary role," the source added. "It's an incredible opportunity for her and even though she's had a lot of success already she is still young and at the start of her career."

wow if true it will be the best breasts on Who since Peri!

That wouldn't be surprising, considering she worked with Moffat on Jekyll.

Another cast member/guest for the Moffet lead series or a guest on an upcoming DT special?

Spoiler:
Comedian [Lee] Evans, meanwhile, revealed he would be joining the cast of BBC One's Doctor Who.

"I’m a professor. They asked me the other day and I said I’d love to do it."

Out of all the parodies I've seen, that one might be the best. Brilliant!

Much as the Ninth Doctor frequently declared things "Fantastic!", this Doctor has also favoured certain phrases on various occasions such as "What!?" (when referring to something unexpected happening, an exclamation also favoured by the Fourth Doctor), "Brilliant!", "That's impossible!", "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry", "That's just cheating!", the Italian expression 'Molto Bene' ('Very good'), "They have a little shop!" (referring to gift shops), and the French expression "Allons-y" ("Let's go"). The last was first used in "Army of Ghosts," where the Doctor stated that he should say it more often and that he would love to meet someone named Alonso so he could say "Allons-y, Alonso!" to them, eventually achieving this aim in "Voyage of the Damned" with midshipman Alonso Frame.

No disrespect meant toward Matt Smith, but I still wish they had gone with Patterson Joseph. He was fantastic in Gaiman's Neverwhere as the Marquis de Carabas:

He even looked the part.

The rumor of the name is true, but that article makes it sound like she's only going to be around for the Easter special and won't be the new Doctor's companion.

Matt Smith had a fairly significant part in In Bruges but it was completely cut from the film. It can be viewed in the deleted scenes section on the DVD.

I read that too. Hoping Donna comes back for the other special before Tennant leaves.

Once More for Freema
General TV Series NewsJanuary 27, 2009 • Posted By Shaun Lyon
Both Teletext and The Sun and reporting today that Freema Agyeman will return to Doctor Who for one more appearance as Martha Jones before David Tennant leaves the role. Agyeman is, according to the reports, scheduled to appear in one of the four upcoming specials that Tennant will appear in before turning over the role to Matt Smith. Says the Sun, "Freema's on board. It's early days so it's unclear what exactly Martha will be up to in the new show."

Freema Agyeman Finds Way Back To 'Doctor Who'
By MICHAEL HINMAN
Jan-27-2009

Talk continues to swirl over whether Michelle Ryan will be the new full-time companion when "Doctor Who" returns to normal seasons in 2010, but for now, an old companion is slated to return.

Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones in the third season of "Doctor Who," is nearing a deal to where she will return at least for the final episode featuring David Tennant in the title role, according to the British tabloid The Sun.

"Freema's on board," a source told the newspaper. "It's early days, so it's unclear what exactly Martha will be up to in the new show."

The return does come as a bit of a surprise. Agyeman was slated to make the move full-time over to the "Doctor Who" spinoff "Torchwood" after a trial run in that show's second season, but at the last minute opted to take on a regular role in "Law & Order: U.K." instead. That move was said to have angered some of the management over in the "Doctor Who" camp, most especially outgoing showrunner Russell T. Davies, who had already plotted Martha's return to full-time status on "Torchwood," and even teased such a pairing in the fourth season finale of "Doctor Who."

I hadn't heard about Freema not doing the next series of Torchwood. That makes me sad.

Speaking of Torchwood, does anyone know if Noel Clarke is going to be in the cast when it returns?

I believe they're aiming for May or June, with it airing at the same time in England and on BBC America. It'll be five parts airing on consecutive nights.

Well after she was featured in multiple episodes in S2 and Tosh bought it in the final episode, I kind of figured her to be the logical replacement. It does suck a bit though since the tension of a triangle involving her and Jack and Gwen (and Ianto) would have been fabulous. Very big bummer news that she's not going to join the cast.

I didn't even know it was scheduled to return yet. Last I read S3 is going to simply be a mini-series arc, shorter without individual episodic stories. I hope it doesn't get the axe as I thoroughly enjoyed last season.
