The 4400 thread

I noticed there haven't been any episode based threads for the 4400 yet this season so I figured this thread could be used as the all purpose discussion of the 4400.

I'm just wondering, was I the only one hoping that Kyle's promicin test came back negative? I think it could have been an awesome plot twist.

Also, the show needs more Collier.

I'm enjoying this season. Hope they keep advancing the overall story without getting bogged down in FotW nonsense.

I have the first four eps from this season on my TiVo, but I just can't muster the interest to watch.

I barely made it through last season - though things did pick up a little as things came to an end.

I agree -- the standalone nonsense, which is good for a couple of filler episodes per season, is really getting tedious. The stories of the main characters are progressing much too slowly, especially seeing 4400 only gets around 13 episodes per season!

Same here. Although I saw the first episode. The problem I have is that the show has become over complicated and the mystery has been replaced with a with a dozen convoluted subplots. Relationships among central characters can no longer be developed, because FotW and the numerous sub plots are consuming all the time.

This used to be a show about 4400 people mysteriously appearing. Now the show is about a messiah, the future and revisionist history, government plots and a mad scientist. It is just too much plot navigation and too little character development.

EDIT: And the characters they do have simply are not engaging.

I've been watching, but I find myself doing stuff during... folding laundry and not pressing pause if the phone rings. Never a good sign.

Except well, er, that would mean:
a) he's totally insane
b) the central storyline for this season (and possibly for the rest of the series) is trashed

Looks like he's coming back soon. I wish they would move the central storylines along faster though. Seems like a given that the government is going to have to cave on the "using your ability is illegal" BS especially now that April is in the mix. At least we have limited Isabelle encounters and she's been dialed WAY down. What happened to Richard Tyler? Is he ever coming back?

I disagree, I think they could have dragged it along having us think he's insane and then give us a different explanation... maybe I'm just going through withdrawal of plot twists for the show, hmm...

I think this season has been better than last, I've had a short leash and have been pleasantly surprised.

Hey, did Isabelle take acting lessons or is it just because she doesn't do much?

Looking on USA's site, this looks like it could end up being quite good.

So far it's probably the best season since the first. Unfortunately The 4400 has the same problem as Jericho -- the writers have no idea about what makes the show click. So off we go with too many subplots, too many secondary characters, dramatic and/or romantic interludes/misunderstandings, etc.

Ditto. I just came here to see how people are liking the new season so far. A couple of days ago I was going to bump the old thread for that purpose.

Based on what's been written so far I'm not compelled to jump on board. I'll probably wait until the week before the season finale and watch them in a few marathon sessions before it airs.

Tonight? Wow... just WOW! Great episode! Jordan Collier is back in the mix AND Isabelle is by his side. Whoa! My question is does/will the "pie" Tom ate continue to allow him that ability. I'm so glad this show seems to be back on track!

Watched 4400 this morning and enjoyed it thoroughly! My wife, who just began watching a couple of weeks ago, is hooked now.

They metioned that the effects of the pie only last a few minutes before wearing off.

I am getting a little nervous. This could end up being one of the best stories on TV in a long time if they don't screw it up. This has a great deal of potential. Enough so that I expect them to screw it up.

I'm interested to see whether a greater 4400 vs Promicin schism develops. I'd also like a greater sense of how the "future" sees the current "state of the world" and whether they do anything further. I still wonder whether the writers have an end state in mind.

I had to let this one go. The staff keeps bogging the show down with stand alones and subplot bs without moving the main narrative along.

I agree -- the writers are kinda clueless.

The story lines are too unbelievable. And not in the scifi way-out-there kind of unbelievable -- I can deal with that. But in the way that people behave kind of unbelievable. The characters just don't act normally; they make decisions that are totally at odds with their personalities and common sense. And this gets really jarring. So much so that it takes you out of the show. I don't mind the occasional WTF moment, but it happens much much too often on this show.

While the overall story arc is interesting, IMO the show needs to get a show-runner that can do a much better job of managing and developing the characters.

I really don't think the show recovered from the loss of Lily - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0020751/

I think they changed direction in the third season and went after a different demo, the xfiles government conspiracy crowd. Not that it was a bad decision at the time, but in retrospect the show lost a lot of strengths. Lily and Richard Tyler were central to the character development. Since Laura Allyn quit, they didnt have anywhere to go. The last shred of the story line was a bust (Isabelle).

They all but abandoned Maia. I really thought there was potential with the Diana and Maia, but apparently the writers disagree. The show needs dependency between the characters. Something to risk losing. Not just a sister who comes and goes for a couple minutes per episode. They need to build solid relationships and then let the story line threaten them.

I really liked the mini-series and the second season. I watched the third season because I enjoyed the show but felt as a whole it was very disjointed and below average. This season with the “new extra crispy” people with abilities they have really lost it. I will keep watching but it is not must see for me anymore. I have several friends that have given up on it. Those of you that have not watched any of your TVio’ed episodes if I were you I would not bother you really are not missing anything. But it is what it is a summer series, for some reason I don’t put as much weight on one of these vs. a fall series.

I agree. Last season with all that Isabelle trash...They're just not carrying enough from episode to episode so far, but it looks like we'll have a bit of a multi-episode story arc coming soon.

This show has always had great potential (why is this turning into an otter thread? ha), and it should have been what heroes is...It still can be, and I hope this whole "savior" crap with the book is just a distraction from the bigger picture...

Dropped this show tonight. I can't remember the last time i cared about the story, or thought that the writing was inspired. I think Season 2, it's peak, may have been a fluke.

Last week's episode was great. The whole thing about agents coming back is a great idea.

My guess is that they are setting Tom up to:

Spoiler:
take the Promicin shot at the end of the season based on his "abduction" by the agents and the shot they gave him. Somehow he'll start to feel compelled to help the agents the 4400, but the Promicin shot will prevent that, and give him powers as a result.
