I found the Ching-chong comment very offensive. She never correctly apologized. Considering her stance with regards to discrimination towards homosexuals, it was extremely hypocritical. Blasting Kelly Ripa a while back for example.
It's 2007 for fuck sakes!
Freespeech is bullsh*t.
I'm not a Rosie fan by any means but at least she had the balls (well she might have ball down there but...) to say what's on her mind.

Never said that they were. However, they spent a lot more time on these subjects than anyone else.
I also don't think CNN and MSNBC are any better news outlets overall.

I'm now hearing that she's actually leaving the show because she wanted them to dumb Walters, and they wouldn't have any part of that:

Report: Rosie Wanted Barbara Walters Out
Rosie O’Donnell’s ouster from "The View” resulted from an unsuccessful power play – she’s leaving after failing to get Barbara Walters axed from the show, insiders tell the New York Post.
Walters is the creator and co-executive producer of the show and "Rosie wanted Barbara’s job,” the Post reports.
"Rosie O’Donnell approached ABC during new contract negotiations last winter about getting rid of Barbara Walters and taking over ‘The View,’ according to several ABC sources close to the situation.”
Officially, Rosie is leaving the show in June after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract with ABC.
But that’s not the whole story, according to the Post’s report. The paper quotes an insider as saying: "They’re talking about how they couldn’t come to terms, but . . . her leaving had nothing to do with that.”
Predictably, O’Donnell’s publicist Cindi Berger denied that Rosie was trying to oust Walters.

She's a fat, loud mouthed, whore.
Wait, where was I? Oh, anyway I don't mind her being offended either, but don't play the same card when it is dealt to someone else.

Personally, I didn't find Imus' nappy ho comments to be racist. Demeaning, yes. Worth getting reprimanded but not fired. And was there the same amount of controversy over Rosie's remark? No. Hypocritical nation we live in.

big whoppa, if you won't allow yourself to appreciate the context of a person's comments, or allow yourself to understand the intention of the person, then you deserve to be offended... a lot.

I see. As long as the offending remark is not directed to you in anyway, it's fine and dandy. Yeah, whatever.

Rosie O'Donnell was talking about how strange it was, or just how strange she found it, that Danny DeVito's appearance on the show had become such big news.
She could have said:
This thing with Danny DeVito. It's so strange that it's become such big news. They're even talking about it in China!
But she didn't.
Allow me to interject that I suspect she was engaging in a bit of hyperbole for comedic effect --I don't really think they were talking about The View in China.
She said what she said.

What if she had picked Sweden, and done an impression of the Swedish Chef?
You can imagine in Sweden-- it's like, 'Urnda, Burnda, Durnda. Danny DeVito. Urnda, Burnda, Durnda. Drunk. The View. Urnda, Burnda'
Rather than making her point in straighforward declaractive sentence
--I think it is really odd that Danny DeVito's appearance on our show has become news all over the world--
She made her point using humor and performance, which is pretty much exactly what you should expect from a professional comic.
Rosie was not making any sort of comment about race or ethnicity.
It was not her INTENTION to demean or offend anyone.
IN FACT IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS (to anyone who bothers to think about it at all) that in Rosie's mind,
"Ching-Chong" was the equivalent of "Yada, Yada, Yada" in fake Chinese.
If you're offended by fake Chinese in any form, then I don't know what to tell you, except that you can expect to be offended a lot.
Just like all French people can expect to be offended by Pepe Le Pew cartoons and all fake French accents.
And Scandanavians can be offended by the fake Norwegian on A Prarie Home Companion.
The English can find plenty to be offended by with all the bad impressions of the British that get thrown around on American TV.
Canadians should be appalled that their culture is reduced to the addition of the sound "Eh?" to the end of sentences.
And, as a white guy, I should be outraged over Dave Chappelle's demeaning portrayal of white people.
OR, is it just the words "Ching-Chong" that are offensive?
It's fine if they are...
But someone has to say them on TV and get attacked for it, so they can be put on the list of racial slurs.
That list of words that are racial slurs doesn't just exist, it has to be compiled.
Allow me to quote Rockmjd23 again

No matter what 'context' you can dream up, that is racial humor that understandably offended people. I bet she wouldn't like a similar joke made about homosexuals.
Because the Number One fake language for comic effect GO TO is without a doubt, fake gay.
As demonstrated here: The Gay Steel Mill
And Rosie O'Donnell definitely doesn't have any problems that.

There is no need to put "ching chong" on some list. It's been around for years. It's demeaning and offensive. Say that to a group of Asian-Americans and see if they think it's funny.
Your point is not well made. I'm not supersensitive and I laugh at a lot of jokes. There is a difference between laughing with and being laughed at. Maybe you will never get it because you are not a minority and never had to walk into minority's shoes. If you were, you would feel differently.

IN FACT IT IS QUITE OBVIOUS
anyone that is not her homie or doesn't agree with her opinions WILL be demeaned or offended (this is her thing)
Rosie is a Bitch (a fat, hippocritical one at that)
Now that she's leaving, i expect her to go out with a bang... I will be watching the news closely to see what she does next (apparently she's a big news story, rediculous)

You're entitled to be offended, but Rosie's comments were SO VERY OBVIOUSLY borne of ignorance, not an intention to demean or offend --or even borne of an apathy about possibly being demeaning or offensive.

In your imaginary comment quoted above, Rosie would have been repeating demeaning stereotypes about African-Americans.
She wasn't say ANYTHING about Chinese people except that they were talking about The View.
Is watching The View now considered a demeaning Chinese stereotype?

The point you're missing is that until this occurred, it was not common knowledge that using "Ching-Chong" was offensive.
I didn't know that. Obviously, Rosie didn't know that.
And I guess nobody working on The View knew that, or else they would have had her apologize before the show ended.
And, yes, that is ignorance. Until you are educated about something, you are ignorant about it.
Non-Asian Americans need to be educated about Asian racism that used to be acceptable in mainstream entertainment (See Breakfast At Tiffanys, for example) but which no longer is, just as people have been educated about how black racism is wrong.

It's been around for years as the standard way for people to do fake Chinese.
If it's wrong to do it, then people have to be educated about that --That's what I meant about putting it on the list.
After that Ann Coulter thing, don't you think there were people who were surprised that "faggot" was considered so offensive --so offensive that people were substituting the phrase "the F-word" for it.
Like I said before, whenever something is offensive, someone has to say it on TV and get knocked for it, so everybody can learn that it's bad.

However, just because you, or anybody else, was insulted by Rosie's comment doesnt mean that she was insulting you.
That's why there is no hypocrisy, and why there was less furor over Rosie, because people understood that her comments were made out of ignorance, not out of an intention to insult/demean/offend.
The reaction of Asians may have been: "That's OFFENSIVE!"
But the reaction of most Americans was: "That's offensive?"

Just to be brief then..."Well, you know now!" Rosie too. No more further excuses. You realize she did not say this in an audience of Asians. I doubt she would have said it if Lisa Long was still on The View. She would know better. It's a shame children pick this up from adults who should know better. We need to put an end to all of this.
Just read in the paper of a couple of NY shock jocks making derogatory calls at the expense of Asians. They are being suspended until further action. About time...
