Well, that's rip-off, since you can pre-order it elsewhere for only $55.

And the HD-dvd comes out on the same day as the regular dvd, for about $15 more.
Though the HDdvds do NOT have the extras that are on the regular dvds...

When i visited my family back in England over Christmas they were all telling me about this show and how cool it was. I have been waiting for it to come on TV over here in the States and watching it last night was well worth the wait. My father mentioned the elephant being taken down by the lions and that sounded pretty wild (for lack of a better word). I can usually watch these programs really easily and appreciate whats happening for the way of the world, but seeing the little calf being chased by the wolf and finally running out of steam made me feel pretty bad for the poor thing. It just fell to its knees and the wolf started biting away at its back. I can imagine more of the same as the show progresses.

The snow leopards was amazing with it beautiful fur. Sadly, they're close to being extinct because hunters are killing them for their fur.

The set from Amazon says "Original U.K. broadcast version narrated by David Attenborough". I wonder if the set released through Discovery will have Sigourney Weaver as the narrator. I would much rather listen to her.

In part 1:
Spoiler:
Watching that little elephant trying to find its mother (and the rest of the herd) but walking in the wrong direction was heartbreaking.

The Attenborough versions are longer, with more fottage - Weaver only narrated the sorter versions and not every scene. So if they gave us the Weaver ones, it'd be the edited down episodes.
Also, as for narration:
Old British guy > Ripley

Yes, Attenborough is a MUCH better narrator than Weaver.

I see they have 3 versions, regular, HD and Blu-ray.

As everyone says, awesome series.

Disappointing that the SD version has tons of extra features that the HD version won't have:
110 mins of behind-the-scenes footage
150 min companion series - Planet Earth: The Future

that is pretty crazy the HD version dont have as much if not more footage considering they can hold more info on a single disc.

But as far as the episodes last night they where amazing. I thought weaver was pretty good as a narrator, but if there is more footage with the british guy i would buy that. That pole to pole episode was my favorite, That dog chase with the impala was pretty awesome, as well as that lion was it chasing that one animal, cant remember what it was.

Can anyone confirm if the DVD version will be in 5.1? CD WOW's site has it in 2.0.

I missed this when it aired in Canada a while back but I'm definitely getting this when it comes out on DVD.

We just finished watching the 3rd ep tonight (watched the other 2 last night) - all in HD of course. I feel bad for those that aren't watching it in HD.

Killer footage, but oddly enough, can't keep the kids interested in it. Screw 'em.

According to Wikipedia (so take this with a grain of salt) Discovery is releasing it on DVD with Weaver narrating. However, BBC is also releasing it in the US on DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray with the Attenborough narrations.

That was so sad. I felt awful for the little guy. That long shot of him heading the wrong way was one of the most depressing things I've seen in a long time.

I believe that the Discovery online store will be the only place to get the Sigourney Weaver version. Everyone else will be selling the Richard Attenborough version. They have different covers -- the Weaver version has an image of Earth while Attenborough's is an overhead shot of elephants or something.

I've heard some pretty wild stories from people who do coke, but never any shit like that man.....vampire octopus' with glowing eyes?

After seeing the advert for this at the theater this weekend, I was going to record these, but i think i will just wait and watch it on HD DVD.

They were able to capture some of the most amazing moments in wildlife ever seen - things that have never been seen before. This was possible because they used cameras that could shoot with unprecedented clarity from more than a mile away.
