It's a thing that was in the episode that was set up like it was supposed to be a joke, but wasn't independently funny. Therefore people were trying to figure out if it was a connection to something else.

I don't think it was supposed to be a joke, I don't know why everyone thinks it was suppose to be funny, I agree with the other post that it was to go from Darryl having a great day to cut to pam crying having a horrible day
